201-My Family Is Toxic
201-My Family Is Toxic
Kedron:
I did not understand why he thought everything was a personal attack.
His ego was so large that he was offended I had to lie just to save my mate.
All it proved was that Yuna was alone here, and if I did not give everything I had, someone among them would eventually try to take her from me.
“Well, pretty much,” I replied, watching his eyes widen at my honesty.
“Where was she? In simple words, where was she hiding?” Lady Andrea asked.
I lifted my finger to silence her.
“She was abducted from right under your nose, Father. So instead of focusing on your sons not following orders, you should ask your trusted people if they can be trusted. Unless you were part of it and knew she was being taken,” I said. My father’s eyes widened in shock.
“She was abducted from the royal house?” Sharlin questioned.
Fear crossed her face. Everyone feared for their own safety, but because it was Yuna, they did not show concern for her.
“I heard you have also found the man who abducted her,” my father remarked.
Lady Andrea gasped.
“A man is the reason a woman from our castle get abducted? So it is true she was taken?” She asked.
The realization struck her, and I could already tell she was more worried about herself than anything that happened to Yuna.
If someone could take one royal woman, they could take another.
I had a perfect jab ready and did not hold it back.
“You do not have to worry. Nobody would want your impure blood,” I said.
My father lifted his palm at me, warning me to stop.
“That is enough,” he stated.
“Well, it was unfortunate that she was abducted, but it does not change the fact that she is still a wanted criminal,” my father retorted.
It was my turn to lift my palm at him.
“She is only a suspect,” I stated.
“Well, not really. She has enough evidence against her for us to arrest her,” Lady Andrea hissed, folding her arms.
“Then maybe we should wait until we find the final petal and get the truth,” a voice said.
It was not mine. This time, it was Denzel, who had arrived and made his stance clear.
“Denzel, stay out of it,” his mother warned as he moved toward us.
Denzel gave her a brief glance, then looked at me.
“I told you. I did not have her,” he whispered before straightening and turning to my father. “You cannot arrest her like that. She is a royal. She is royalty.”
I did not want his help, but if anything kept Yuna alive, I would not reject it.
I was not the kind of man who put his mate at risk because he was too proud to accept support.
If Denzel wanted to help prove her innocence, I would not stop him.
“That is odd, the way you are fighting your father for her,” Sharlin said.
She spoke at the worst time, and the jealousy in her tone was clear.
“Fine, we could hold it off for a while. It is not like there was an emergency.” Suddenly my father changed his tone, and it caught me off guard.
“I would like to meet the man who abducted her,” he stated. “I want to know who came into my land and committed a crime under my nose. And I also want to know why they wanted Yuna only.”
For the first time, he stopped focusing on Yuna alone and turned his attention to something beyond her.
I guessed it was because she was a special wolf and he had been anticipating any news regarding her.
I had even heard in the past days that he had spoken with the council, and instead of giving her a punishment of death or a lifetime of torture, they had decided to plan something else.
I did not want to think about it before, but now that she was back, I was going to pay attention to what they were planning behind her back.
“Why? We should just kill this person,” Lady Andrea remarked. When everyone looked at her, she added, “Well, then at least get me some warriors. I do not feel safe with a man like that out there.”
I shook my head at her. This same woman had not cared about Yuna’s safety when she was abducted.
But the moment she feared for herself, she wanted warriors.
“I want warriors too,” Sharlin announced from behind.
She stepped closer and wrapped her arm around Denzel’s, and he freed himself from her grip.
I did not like the way he did it, because the more he stepped away from her, the more he seemed to be paying attention to Yuna.
“Well, the man will be here soon. He will be brought after he is detained and put under a certain amount of restraint,” I replied.
As soon as I mentioned vervain, everyone’s eyes widened.
“Is it a vampire?” my father asked.
I shrugged, not giving him any more information.
“I need to be with Yuna for now,” I told him.
I turned to leave, but before I could close the door, Denzel slipped inside with me.
“Hey, I want to be alone with my mate,” I told him through the closed door, since he shut it behind us.
“Well, do not forget she is my mate as well. And even though I know you will remind me that I did not want her previously, I want to help her now,” he replied.
“I do not need your help like this. If you want to help her, then find the last petal. You do not need to walk around her,” I reminded him, setting the boundary.
“You do not need to worry. If you trust her so much, you should not be worried about me being near her,” Denzel responded.
“Yeah, well, I will let you know when she wakes up. Then we can speak with her. But for now, do you not see her sleeping?” I said as I stepped in his way, stopping him from reaching the bed.
What was wrong with him? Was he really thinking of walking over to her and watching her sleep?
He finally understood I was not going to let him near her.
He stepped back, turned toward the door, and reached for the handle.
Once he opened it, he paused.
“Whoever was involved, if you do not punish them, I will,” he murmured before walking out.
“Asshole,” I hissed. “He thinks he cares for her more than I do.”
“Kedron?” Yuna’s soft voice came from behind me, and my attention shifted at once. She was awake.
