190-Talk Of The Town
Kedron:
“What is going on, Denzel?” Father called out, reacting to the fact that Denzel had arrived and instantly started yelling.
It definitely sounded odd to them since his mother had always portrayed him as such a happy person.
“That woman!” As soon as Denzel pointed toward the door, referring to his wife, his mother looked instantly anxious and panicked.
“Denzel, we will talk about it in private. Okay? Now let’s go,” his mother urged, trying to grab his hand and pull him away.
But Denzel looked utterly distraught, and I could only imagine what had happened.
“No, I want to speak to Father. This isn’t something we can hide,” Denzel insisted.
He didn’t look like he was playing around, he looked genuinely angry and broken.
“Well then, we will talk about it later, okay?” his mother warned, but Denzel shook his head again.
“Andrea, what is wrong with you? If he wants to speak with me, let him speak,” Father finally said when he noticed how hard she was trying to stop him from talking.
Denzel straightened his posture. Even though his mother kept gesturing and glaring at him not to speak, he did.
And what he said next was unforgettable.
“That Sharlin, the one whose father gave her to me claiming she was a virgin, turns out she’s a liar!” Denzel’s voice cracked as he shouted, showing exactly how broken he was.
“Explain to me why you’re saying all that now,” Father demanded.
Probably because, why was he suddenly claiming she wasn’t a virgin after months of marriage? Wouldn’t he have known after the first night?
I started eating my breakfast. I could finally stomach food, watching all the people who had been talking about how bad Yuna was now hearing the truth about their perfect Sharlin.
Call me toxic, but I was satisfied.
If they were going to drag my Yuna, they were about to learn what karma really looked like.
“When we got married, she didn’t let me touch her for months,” Denzel spoke in a heavy tone, drawing everyone’s attention.
“What? And you’re telling me this now?” Father slammed his hand on the table. Of course, he was a typical misogynist.
The only reason he had ever seemed kind or reasonable was because my mother used to keep him in check.
Now that she was gone, his toxic nature was showing in full.
“I wasn’t going to come and talk to you about my personal affairs with my wife, Father,” Denzel shot back immediately.
“Did she tell you why she didn’t let you touch her?” Father questioned again.
I noticed Lady Andrea still trying to stop Denzel, signaling him to keep quiet.
For her, her son’s discomfort wasn’t nearly as important as the satisfaction she used to get from seeing me humiliated.
Now she regretted it, because her own son was exposing the truth right in front of me, the same man she’d tried to convince everyone had made the wrong choice while she’d made the right one for her son.
“She said some seer told her that it was better for our relationship if we didn’t sleep together. But that’s not important,” Denzel explained bitterly. “What’s important is that we finally did last night, and I found out why she had been avoiding intimacy.” he grunted and paused.
“That’s because she lied to me. Either she lied, which would’ve been fine if she had just told me she had a past, but no. I was led to believe she was perfect, pure for me. And if she lost her virginity after marriage, then she cheated on me. Either way, I’m done with her,” Denzel grunted, leaving everyone in shock over the truth about Sharlin, the so-called perfect princess.
“Did you speak with her? What did she say? Maybe she has an excuse,” Lady Andrea asked Denzel, sounding concerned for Sharlin.
I guessed that upset Denzel, because the way he did a double take at his mother said it all.
This is what happens when a woman’s cunning ways become more important than everything else, when her only mission is to make others feel small and she doesn’t even notice how much her children are suffering.
Lady Andrea’s entire focus was proving Sharlin innocent so her previous statements would still stand.
“I did speak with her,” Denzel said defensively.
“And what did she say?” Father asked.
Denzel stared at his mother for a long moment before turning back to Father with the same disapproving look.
“She started screaming at me. She ran out of the room, called her father, and gathered everyone, accusing me of talking about her character. She even exposed our private matters to her father and everyone else,” he hissed, slamming his hands as he spoke.
“She screamed at you?” Lady Andrea asked, surprised.
It seemed like everything we had ever believed about Sharlin might be a lie.
From the beginning, when I first saw her, something felt off, the way she was so silent, while at times her eyes were so expressive.
I knew she was hiding something.
“Okay, we need to calm down first, and then we’ll talk about it,” Lady Andrea said, using hand gestures to try to soothe her son.
But Denzel seemed very aggressive. “No, there is nothing to talk about. I am going to reject her because I cannot stay with someone like her. Her whole persona, everything, was fake. I have been fooled, Mother,” he snapped, pointing at his chest.
I stopped eating and turned my head to look at him.
The same man who was furious about being lied to was the one who had lied to an innocent girl like Yuna to sleep with her, then moved on to humiliate and torture her.
Even on the wedding night, when she was miserable, he tried to ruin her character, all the while marrying someone who left him looking like a defeated man today.
I guess karma has a way of striking everyone.
Before anyone else could speak, a warrior rushed in and immediately lowered his head when he realized there was a heated argument going on.
“What is it?” Father noticed him and asked.
“Your Highness, Lady Sharlin and her father are here. They said they want to talk.”
As soon as those words left the warrior’s mouth, I started to smile and turned to look at Lady Andrea, who was glaring at me, her fists clenched and her face red as a tomato.
Wow. They had insulted my Yuna, and now their entire family was on display, about to become the talk of the town.
