Chapter 116 Captured
“Raelynn what’s wrong?”, Zara asked when she noticed that I was clinging more nearer to her. “It’s …. Nothing”, l stuttered sweat already forming on my forehead. “Raelynn what’s wrong”, She was worried. “Except people, are you seeing anything mysterious in this room?”, I asked while gripping her hand.
“No…. No”, She shook her head as she stared around the room. “I need a glass of wine. I’m hallucinating Zara”, l gripped her hand more tighter when I looked around the room too. The shadows l was seeing before we’re no longer around. “Yes you need to calm your nerves”, She retorted before getting a glass of mulled wine from one of the servants that was passing by.
“There is a threat coming for us in form of war, Raelynn it’s is stressing all the Alphas”, Zara whispered, pointing where the Alphas we’re. The situation seemed so serious, they were all talking to themselves. Servants and guards were busy walking around. Something was perhaps wrong and they needed to deal with it.
I gripped the stem of my glass more tighter when I stared at Idris. He was worried just like the others and that scared me more. As for the noble shewolves, they all seemed to be fine, drinking their wine. As we drank our wine slowly, Valerie soon walked to where we were. “This is the worst winter solstice”, Valerie spoke after gulping down the remaining wine in her glass. “You right it is the worst”, Zara retorted. I didn’t involve in their conversation. I just remained silent taking my wine.
“Someone has betrayed us, we don’t know who the hell is giving the information about us to the hunters”, Another female voice soon intervened in our conversation. “Huh! Luna Elizabeth”, Zara gasped and I turned and looked at her. She looked to be in her early thirties, dressed up in a red off shoulder dress and had her black hair tied up in a pony tail. She was beautiful but…..
“Yes it’s me! My goodness Luna Raelynn nice to meet you”, She smiled happily at Valerie and Zara then held out her hand for me. “Nice to meet you too”, I smiled forcefully but also the small smile faded from my face when she out of the blue began laughing. Quickly l removed my hand from her grip then walked more nearer to Zara.
“No don’t worry darling, am just a bit drunk”, She went on before picking a glass from the servant who was passing by. Both Valerie and Zara we’re silent staring at her. What the hell was wrong with her?! She just intervened in our conversation and told us that we had someone betraying us and now here she was laughing while shaking her head.
“I honestly liked you when I saw you at first that’s why I came over to warn you… Becareful Luna Raelynn”, The next words that fall out of my mouth made my blood to instantly freeze. “What are you talking about?, What do you mean?”, Questions quickly fall out of Zara’s mouth with panic evident in her voice.
“Excuse me”, Before she could respond, guards all of the sudden reached out for her and took her away. “She was strange”, Valerie murmured in a low voice as she watched guards take away Elizabeth. “I want to know why she said that”, Zara sounded more panicked but then before she could walk away to follow her, something I’mmediately distracted us.
“This is the last day of winter solstice, so let’s celebrate with happiness”, Th voice echoed in the all room and servants also increased. They began walking around with everything - fruits and different types of wine. “He is right. Let’s forget about Elizabeth and then party”, Valerie suggested and Zara nodded her head.
After some time, the conversation flowed easily with Valerie and Zara. I also spoke, laughed with them, trying my level best to forget about my worries. As Valerie and Zara continued to talk, l took an offered glass from a passing servant then went on with giggling with them. At some moment, l took a sip of it. The champagne bubbles tickled the back of my throat as l swallowed it but then before I could take another sip, l all of the sudden felt my blood run cold and my breath left my body. A dizzy spell abruptly clutched at my head and I stayed on my feet with the glass in my hand.
Things turned serious, my stomach all of the sudden churned and deep in my belly l felt a sharp jab as though I was being stabbed. Cramps that quickly grew in intensity followed that pain. Before l knew it, l was doubling over and the glass slipped from my fingers and shattered on the floor.
“Raelynn becareful”, Zara sounded more concerned and l nodded my head while bitting my tongue to stop my cry of pain. However just as l was doing it, l felt my knees quickly hit the ground. My limbs felt as though they were full of lead and my chest constricted painfully that I couldn’t think l could inhale if I wanted to. “Raelynn”, As though far away, l heard Idris shouting.
Gasps rang around the room as l crumbled into myself. Both Zara and Idris quickly ran to my side then his powerful hands saved me from hitting my head on the smooth stone. The diadem fell from my head with a clatter. My throat felt as though l was being strangled because I was holding back a scream from the intense twisting pain in my stomach. The blood rushing in my ears kept me from hearing Zara and Idris’s words and their faces blurred as the world faded away.
A sob wrenched itself from my mouth as I gagged and that’s when blood dribbled from my lips.
IDRIS’S POV.
“Raelynn”, Panicking already, l held her head up to the side as she gagged and choked on the blood dribbling down her lips. “We have to take her the infirmary. NOW!”, Zara gently nudged my shoulder to get me moving. “She has been poisoned, Idris take her to the infirmary right now”, One of the Alphas said behind me as my feet began to move and push through the crowd surrounding us in the ballroom.
