Chapter 115 Her fear
“She is alright now Idris, she saved your children, our Luna did it”, She spoke with her a smile while running her palm over Raelynn’s face. Her eyes were sparking with love for her. Color was returning on her cheeks and that was enough to calm me down. Though what I couldn’t get was the fact that someone tried to kill Raelynn.
Someone who did it surely knew it that Raelynn was pregnant. She gave her aconitum napellus which is poison to werewolves. Pushing that thought at the back of my head, l kissed Raelynn’s temple and squeezed her fingers. “You promise that they are alright now?”, I asked Zara as I began to rise from the floor. “Yes Raelynn will need to rest a while, this took a lot of her powers but the babies are thriving within her now, it is as if they were never hurt”, Zara couldn’t take her eyes off Raelynn to look at me. She was so excited than me.
“Someone in my pack attempted to murder Raelynn, they would have killed my unborn children, am not going to spare whoever he or she is”, l spoke with my beast taking control of me. “Undoubtedly the same person who left the whispering death snake in her bed”, Zara murmured. The edges of my vision blurred red and l could feel the white-hot anger rising up my body and tensing my muscles as though I was about to attack someone. My wolf was taking control of me.
“Idris let me hope you aint ….”,
“Am not going to spare whoever she or he is”, l clenched my jaw and felt a tear prick at the corner of my eye as l looked at Raelynn lying still in the bed. She still hard her face pale. “I’m going to execute the one responsible for this”, l added staring at Zara. She didn’t argue. I could see the same fire in her eyes as she gave me a shallow nod.
The infirmary door suddenly burst open and Mark burst in, eyes searching frantically. His gaze landed on Raelynn barely moving in the bed and his face turned down. “The security guards have surrounded the packs and other Alphas are keeping their eyes on everyone”, He informed while rubbing the sweat from his brow.
“That’s good to hear”, I spoke sitting next to Raelynn on the bed and with a shaky breath, l ran my palm over her stomach. It was already big. My children were in there. “Should I check her?”, Dr Tracy asked. “No don’t, She healed them”, l leaned over and kissed her on her temple. She stirred briefly and I grabbed her hand. My touch seemed to soothe her and she settled again as I ran my thumb over the back of her hand.
“Are they babies?”, Mark asked. “Yes the heirs to Blue Moon pack”, Zara retorted with a smile on her face. “I want to congratulate you Alpha but there is the matter of attempted murder still being held within the pack”, That sent my rage boiling over from within the hold l barely had on it in the first place.
Like a crescendo of anger sweeping through me, l saw the darkness rolling in response to my mood. “Indeed we need to work on that”, l spoke but when I looked at Raelynn, l felt like not leaving her. I didn’t want to leave her side. “You need to go Idris, l will watch over her”, Zara advised. She reached over and patted the back of my hand that was holding Raelynn’s.
Leaning forward, l kissed Raelynn on the forehead. I lingered as l struggled to pull away from her. “Rest well my love”, l sighed and inhaled the scent of her one last time before standing up. Mark looked over at Raelynn before following me out of the room. “You stand guard , Do not allow anyone else in this room”, l commanded the guards on the way out of the infirmary.
“Yes Alpha”, They retorted in unison.
“Alpha….”, Just as we were walking away, one of the guards called before he quickly bowed in front of me.
“Alpha l didn’t want to interrupt you but l think I know something about the Luna’s condition”, He was already trembling but he managed to speak every word.
“Go on and tell me”, l spoke calmly.
“There are some servants who know something about the poison, if you speak to one of the kitchen servants, they will tell you, Rhea knows something about it”, l searched his face for a moment, accessing his sincerity. The young man seemed trustworthy. “Thank you”, l acknowledged. As soon as I turned around to march in my office, l could feel my blood boiling in my veins and at any moment, I might start screaming like an enraged beast.
Even though I was assured that she was fine, my children were fine but I was driven by the images of her body writhing in pain and the blood on her lips. I had almost lost the love of my life, my mate and the unborn children because of the vile creature.
Looking down from the throne with dagger in my eyes, it was taking every ounce of my strength not to tear every human servant in the room. My sword leaned against my leg from where I watched them. One by one Mark and two guards would bring me a servant to question while the noble shewolves waited their turn.
The unease in the room was palpable and l could taste their fear. One of them one was going to die tonight and l will be sure they all watch. A petite young woman was brought forward. As l observed her, I noticed that there was something different in her expression than the others l have interrogated first.
“This is Rhea , she is usually employed in the kitchen by Miss Zara and was serving at the party tonight”, Mark let go of the woman’s hand.
“Come here Rhea”, l gestured for her to step forward more closer to the throne and l watched her eyes go wide. She hesitated for a moment as though she was battling with her frozen limbs to move. When she was closer enough, I leaned forward and narrowed my gaze on her with my fingers lightly tapping against the handle of my sword.
“The young guard James told me to speak to you, is there anything you would like to tell me Rhea?”, I tried to calm the rage in my veins to give her a friendly smile. If she had seen anything, it would be harder for her to speak if she was worried about my next move. “Yes .. yes Alpha”, She whispered and looked back at the other servants waiting to be questioned.
“Miss Raelynn has been good to me, am… humbly going to speak what l saw Alpha”, She stuttered.
“I will listen go on”, l encouraged.
