Chapter 135 How Does It Taste?
Chapter 135 How Does It Taste?
"You're both getting older now. Besides work, you should start thinking about your marriage. Recently, I've been looking at daughters from quite a few prominent families, and about a dozen of them are pretty good. When you have time, I'll arrange for you to meet them."
Neither Charles nor Charles said anything.
Tatum continued: "As men of the Green family, I don't care and have no interest in what kind of women you've been messing around with before. But now that you're about to enter into marriage alliances, for everyone's sake, you need to clean up all those messy women you've been involved with."
Cody held his wine glass and laughed:
"Grandma, don't worry about me. I've already gotten rid of all the women I was playing around with. But as for Charles..."
He glanced sideways at Charles with a smirk:
"That Ms. Smith has Charles wrapped around her finger. I heard that recently, Ms. Smith even kicked Charles out of the bedroom. Charles is practically on his knees begging..."
Charles shot him a cold look, and Cody immediately shut up.
After dinner, Cody found an excuse to leave. Charles wanted to go, too, but Tatum called him into the study.
An hour later, Charles came out of the study looking extremely upset.
Rhys carefully watched Charles's expression: "Mr. Charles Green, ever since seeing you and Ms. Smith at the train station, Mr. Cody Green has been keeping an eye on what's happening at Serenity Estates."
Charles's eyes immediately turned colder.
Rhys's heart sank along with it, and he answered even more carefully: "The people at Serenity Estates are all tight-lipped and haven't told Mr. Green anything. However..."
"That incident with Ms. Smith caused quite a commotion before, and with so many people around, some things we wanted to hide just couldn't be hidden."
Charles's eyes darkened: "Tell everyone to keep their mouths shut."
He could let slide things that couldn't be prevented.
But regarding the details between him and Olivia, he didn't want them to be leaked by the people around him.
"Yes, I'll make sure of it."
Rhys also knew how serious this matter was.
After thinking for a moment, he brought up Aurelia.
Earlier, he had deliberately given his fingerprint to Aurelia, first to remove her suspicions and second to see if he could follow the trail and find out who was helping Aurelia behind the scenes.
Up to now, there had been no news from Aurelia's side.
But aside from this, the key thing was to prevent any further contact between Aurelia and Olivia.
He didn't want Olivia to have any more contact with Aurelia.
Even less did he want Olivia to know about the things he'd been doing behind her back.
Apart from trying to trace the person behind the scenes, he hadn't done anything else, but he couldn't guarantee Olivia wouldn't overthink things. If she suspected he was taking revenge on Aurelia, it would just cause more trouble.
He knew that in her eyes, he was nothing but a complete devil.
But still, he wanted to try to leave a good impression on her.
Charles drove back to Serenity Estates alone.
It was already very late. He thought Olivia would be asleep by now and was about to tiptoe upstairs when he noticed the kitchen light was still on. Olivia, who should have been in bed, was standing there with one hand on a crutch and the other putting noodles into a pot.
Charles was scared out of his wits.
He suppressed the urge to shout at her to stop, quickly walked into the kitchen, picked her up, and placed her in the wheelchair.
Olivia hadn't expected him to suddenly appear and was startled too, her face turning pale.
She stared at Charles and frowned.
Seeing her like this, the fear Charles had just suppressed surged up again.
To punish herself and to punish him, she had personally broken both her legs. That was bad enough, but now, before she'd even recovered, she was using crutches to get up and cook noodles on her own.
And that was fine too.
He had backed down again and again. He hadn't even said anything yet, so why did she look like she was about to get angry first?
Charles took two deep breaths, suppressed his anger again, and tried to keep his voice calm as he asked, "What are you doing?"
Olivia still didn't really want to talk to him.
She turned her head away.
After a moment, probably realizing this wasn't quite right, she answered his question: "Cooking noodles."
Charles was speechless.
He knew she was cooking noodles. He had eyes; he could see. What he wanted to ask was:
"Why didn't you call the servants?"
Why did she have to struggle to come down and cook herself?
Did she never want her legs to heal for the rest of her life?
He didn't dare ask the last part out loud, afraid Olivia would blow up at him right then and there, and even the surface peace they'd been maintaining would be gone.
"It's too late, the servants are all resting. I didn't want to bother them."
Charles was speechless.
He paid the servants precisely so they could be bothered.
But since Olivia had said so, he didn't argue with her.
While rolling up his sleeves, he gently asked for her opinion: "I haven't eaten yet either. How about I cook, and we eat together?"
He had mentioned making her a meal before, but halfway through cooking that time, it ended with him and her in bed.
He was so tired afterward that he didn't want to cook anymore.
The meals Olivia ate when she got up in the middle of the night were all prepared in advance by the servants.
He had just simply reheated them.
Olivia wasn't really hungry. She just couldn't sleep at night and got out of bed to find something to do. Now, hearing Charles say this, she didn't object.
She didn't explicitly agree, but Charles was still very happy.
Because this meant she was giving her tacit consent, agreeing to let him further occupy her emotions and life.
He smiled as he pushed her to the living room, turned on the TV, handed her the remote control, and cut a plate of fruit for her:
"Eat this first to tide you over. The noodles will be ready soon."
With that, Charles turned and went into the kitchen.
The water in the pot was already boiling. He just needed to put the noodles in, and they'd be ready in a moment.
Charles soon came out carrying two bowls of noodles.
He placed both bowls on the table, picked up the utensils with one hand, lifted the bowl in front of Olivia with the other, picked up some noodles, blew on them, and when they weren't hot anymore, brought them to Olivia's mouth:
"Try it and see how it tastes?"
Olivia frowned slightly, instinctively wanting to refuse.
When it came to being fed, she was only used to David doing it.
Her relationship with Charles hadn't reached that level of intimacy yet.
But looking up and seeing Charles's eyes full of expectation, she pressed her lips together and opened her mouth to eat the noodles.
"How is it?"
Patiently waiting for her to chew and swallow that bite of noodles, Charles asked even more expectantly.
"Not bad."
Charles was as happy as a kindergarten child receiving praise from a teacher, and he brought the noodles to her mouth again, even more cheerfully:
"Then eat some more."
He had said he was hungry too and they would eat together, but in the end, only Olivia ate the noodles. Charles didn't have a single bite.
Watching her finish eating seemed to fill him up halfway, and he contentedly carried her upstairs.
