Chapter 123 You Can Take My Life, But...

He leaned down again and pulled her into his arms. "I'm sorry."

Olivia hadn't expected Charles to apologize to her.

If this had been at the beginning, hearing his apology might have given her some hope, making her wonder if he'd had a change of heart.

Not anymore.

Charles was a complete and utter monster.

She knew that very clearly.

She looked at the car ceiling with a cold laugh. "What do you have to apologize for? You're so capable, you can do whatever you want. I'm useless, I'm worthless, I deserve to be bullied by you."

Charles didn't get angry. His voice remained the same as before, with a hint of guilt:

"I'm sorry. Before, I... hurt you badly and forced you to do many things you didn't want to do. Don't worry, it won't happen again."

"Won't what? Won't force me to do these things anymore?" The mockery in Olivia's voice grew thicker. "Or won't threaten me with my family anymore?"

"Neither will happen again." He tilted his head and kissed her temple. "Olivia, I really want to be with you properly, like real lovers. I won't make you angry anymore, and I won't allow anyone else to make you angry either."

"Including Cody?" Olivia asked, tilting her head.

She just asked casually, not expecting any positive answer at all.

Unexpectedly, Charles answered quickly and firmly: "Including Cody."

"What about you?" Olivia stared into his eyes.

"Including me."

Charles looked at Olivia with determined eyes. "Olivia, from now on, whatever you want, however you want me to treat you, you can tell me directly. I'll do my best to satisfy you."

"You'll satisfy everything?" Olivia asked with deeper meaning.

Charles heard the implication in her words but still nodded seriously.

"Then... what if I want you to die?"

Olivia's lips curved into a smile, her fingers unconsciously clenching tight.

Charles showed no anger at all. He smiled and stroked her hair:

"You want my life? Sure. But I'll only accept dying while making love to you. We can go home now, or we can do it here. You can take my life right now."

"Shameless!"

Olivia kicked Charles away.

Charles didn't get angry. He smiled and caught her ankle, kissing her foot. Seeing how angry Olivia was, he wisely let go and changed the subject:

"It's almost noon. What do you want to eat? Let's go to the supermarket and buy some ingredients. I'll cook for you myself. We've known each other for so long, and I've never cooked for you."

"You can cook?" Olivia's voice was full of surprise.

"Learned it when I was little." Charles smiled casually. "No choice—bad luck. If I didn't cook for myself, I'd go hungry. I could only try it myself, and after trying enough times, I slowly developed cooking skills."

Olivia's heart ached uncontrollably for a moment.

Having to cook for himself since childhood, or else go hungry—how miserable must his childhood have been?

But it was only a brief moment before she snapped back to reality.

No matter what his childhood was like, he was a monster now.

A monster who killed and robbed, capable of anything.

Feeling sorry for a monster—she must be asking for trouble.

But regardless of her true feelings, what she should do now was go along with him, make him happy, let his guard down. That way, it would be easier for her to escape.

She didn't want to dwell on everything that had happened before, didn't want revenge anymore. She just wanted to leave—to leave Charles's side as soon as possible and never see him again.

Olivia adjusted her emotions, looking at him with some tenderness and sympathy in her eyes. "I never imagined someone like you had such a pitiful childhood."

Olivia and Charles had spent quite a bit of time together, and most of it, they'd been at odds. Even during the rare tender moments, Charles had never seen tenderness or sympathy in Olivia's eyes.

Now, her gaze actually held both emotions. Did that mean she had developed some feelings for him?

Warm currents surged through Charles's heart.

He held Olivia's hand and kissed it gently on his lips. "It's all in the past. From now on, we'll live well together."

Just like a normal married couple.

Meeting Charles's increasingly tender gaze, Olivia smiled. "Okay."

Regarding their relationship, Charles was very clear-headed. He knew it would be very difficult for them to be like a normal couple.

When he said those words, his heart held both hope and anxiety. He just hadn't expected Olivia actually to agree.

Even if she was lying to him, he felt happy.

He smiled happily and pulled her hand as they got out of the car. "Come on, let's go to the supermarket and buy things, then get home quickly to cook."

While shopping at the supermarket, Charles still held her hand tightly, never letting go.

A young couple passed by them. Seeing their constantly joined hands, they whispered to each other:

"Look over there, their hands haven't separated at all. You can tell they're newlyweds. How long has it been since you held my hand?"

"My fault, babe. Let's hold hands now and never let go."

"You want to hold hands? I don't even want you to." The girl shook off the boy's hand and strode forward.

The boy immediately chased after her. "Babe, don't shake me off."

The two quickly left.

Olivia heard what they said and instinctively wanted to shake Charles's hand off.

Charles noticed and immediately gripped her hand tighter. With his other hand, he picked up a bottle of seasoning from the nearby shelf, pretending he hadn't noticed her attempt to pull away:

"Which brand do you like?"

Watching Charles act like a good domestic man, Olivia suppressed her dissatisfaction and disgust, then pointed at a brand at random.

Charles smiled and put that brand of seasoning in the shopping cart, then leaned close to her ear and said intimately, "I'll listen to my wife."

Olivia was speechless.

After wandering around the supermarket twice and buying everything they needed, they walked together toward the checkout.

While waiting in line, Charles suddenly frowned. "Oh no, I forgot to buy something."

"What?" Olivia was puzzled.

They'd just bought everything for cooking, both the main ingredients and the seasonings.

Charles looked at her with a smile and said softly, "Condoms."

His voice was very low, but the people in line were standing close together. No matter how low his voice was, the people in front and behind heard him.

The person behind them widened their eyes, and the person in front was so shocked they turned around, staring at them in disbelief.
