Chapter One Hundred And Twenty One

David

It feels like I have been kidnapped and dumped into one of my mother’s favourite cheesy Mexican telenovelas, but the difference between my life and the lives of the fictional characters she loves is that those characters aren’t supernatural, but this telenovela I’m living in has a supernatural spin to it.

All the drama and all the heartache and secrets revealed. This secret is too big to just say that I’m living a normal life. I’m obviously not living a normal life.

All my life I have always known that I am the only child. It’s been me and my parents for years, and I always wanted to have a brother, and that’s when I found Elijah. He was like a brother to me. And after that, I didn’t care to have a sibling.

Knowing that I have a twin brother is all kinds of crazy because when a supernatural entity that shifts from one person to another shifts into me and tells me that I’m his twin brother I don’t expect to believe it. In fact, I will even pin him to the wall and force him to tell the truth. But I don’t do that because he’s not lying he is telling the truth.

He is my twin brother. How do I know? He showed me everything. It all came to me in a quick slideshow, but I was able to pinpoint the story and his backstory.

He is the relative who summoned Dura and the reason he did it was because he was angry. Dura was only killing people to get his energy, and as soon as Dura got his energy. Miguel’s plan is to use him to kill me and my parents for abandoning him.

“You’re joking,” Jeremy says to Miguel. “David doesn’t have a twin brother. That’s just a lie.” Jeremy says, very convinced that he is lying, and that’s because Jeremy has known me and my family for such a long time; he knows for a fact that I do not have a twin at all, and all this is bullshit.

But it’s not.

“Ha! Tell him, bro.” Miguel says to me and he can’t wait to prove Jeremy wrong. But I’m not going to tell Jeremy to give this evil bitch the satisfaction. I’m going to tell Jeremy simply because he needs to know the truth. And the truth is that my ever-loving parents, whom I thought knew nothing about the supernatural, have been lying to me all these years.

“He’s not lying,” I say. “He showed me his past. Well, he showed me a memory.”

“What? Are you saying Andrea and Antonio know about witches and demons?”

“Yes, and I’m sure they know more about the supernatural world than I do,” I say and Jeremy just looks at me with his jaw on the floor and his forehead creased. I look at Miguel, and he’s still smiling; he cannot wait to kill us all.

“Go on,” he says.

I roll my eyes then I sigh. I turn to look at Jeremy and I tell him everything like it’s a story from a novel. But it’s not a novel, it’s not a movie, and it’s not a telenovela. This is my life.

My parents found out that they were pregnant with twins and were already planning to name both of their boys David and Daniel. They were excited. Until mom got a visit from a witch telling her that the curse of the Ramirez ancestor’s past was going to be in one of her twins.

Mom didn’t understand what she meant by that and just thought that the witch was crazy. But Dad didn’t think the witch was crazy at all. He knew exactly what was happening. And he knew what ancestor the witch was talking about.

The legend goes that Daniel brought a curse to the Ramirez family unintentionally, and every time someone in the family had twins, one of the twins would turn out to be corrupted. Filled with evil and he would kill the other twin. Dad had heard stories about twins killing each other in the family for a very long time but he didn’t think it to be anything worth worrying about. He thought they were just stories.

Until that night the witch came. Dad explained everything to Mom, and Dad was ready to get rid of the babies, but Mom was hell-bent on saving the twins. She wanted to save the one who wasn’t corrupted, she was not ready to give up. She was ready to risk it all. So both of them went to look for help. They went to priests but they ran away.

They invited Shamans and they ended up missing the next day. They went to witches and they kept on warning them that there was no saving the child.

That was until mom gave birth, and it was difficult to know which was evil because the babies looked ever so innocent; they didn’t look like they could be a reincarnation of the devil. That’s until one of the nurses pointed at Daniel and said he was the evil one and they better be careful because that child would grow to give them trouble and kill the other child.

It is better to get rid of one evil than to let the evil destroy the good. The nurse said. And a distraught Andrea Ramirez didn’t want to kill Daniel, but she had to so that he wouldn’t kill me.

So they hired someone because they both couldn’t do the job on their own. But that was their big mistake because the person they hired was an embodiment of evil and believed people like Daniel could rule the world. He was a worshiper of the kings of the underworld and loved Daniel’s work, so what did he do? He raised the child and he grew up with a hatred and has been plotting ever since to get his revenge on the family that abandoned him.

Miguel Barrera is not just some look alike. We have the same face because he’s my twin brother.

And that is what I saw. I wish I could say the memories are fabricated but they’re not. They’re real.

Jeremy looks at Miguel with sadness and a shock in his eyes.

“Intriguing story isn’t it? Now I’m bored. Let me just tell you my terms and conditions.” He stands, breathes in and out, and he has his eyes closed, and I just look at him.

I can’t believe I’ve had a brother all this while. My parents have known about the supernatural world and they’ve been lying to me. All this while I thought I was protecting them by not telling them about how I died and became a werecat.

I don’t know if they know about werecats but they know enough.

“Okay, your boyfriend is going to die,” he says.

“No! Please don’t do this.”

“Brother, calm down. Jeez, you are impatient. We are brothers after all.” he giggles and then stops abruptly. “He won’t die,” he confirms. “But he will die if you don’t bring our parents here.”

“What? So you want me to trade a life for another? Bring my parents here and kill them, and if I don’t, then you kill Max.”

“Yes, that’s what I’m asking.”

“You’re crazy. Why can’t you go meet our parents?”

“Can’t you see? I am stuck in this smelly ass city. I’ve been bound here by the witches I pissed off years ago.” he shouts, he’s filled with rage. But I don’t shake because I’m done with all this I’m just tired.

“Now, if you want your mate to live then you’re gonna have to do what I say and bring our mom and dad here. And besides, who says I’m going to kill them? I just want a big reunion.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“Of course you don’t, brother I need you to cooperate. It’s either you bring our parents here or your boyfriend dies. It’s really your choice. But you have until the end of this week to decide your boyfriend’s fate.”

Oh my God, I have never seen so much rage in someone’s eyes in my life. What happened to him was horrible so of course he’d be pissed. Treated like an outcast because people thought he was going to be a killer. Or maybe he was, but what if it was the actions of our parents that made him this way, and he was never going to be this way in the first place?

“Miguel. I know you’re pissed off and I get you.”

“NO YOU DON’T! NO, YOU FUCKING DON’T! YOU THINK YOU GET ME BUT YOU DON’T! FUCK!” I can’t tell if it’s the house that shook when he was shouting or if he shook the whole state.

“You had it easy, you weren’t the one who had the curse of Daniel Ramirez. You had a good life. I had to live like a hoodlum. I wasn’t living in the rich parts of New York I was always poor, I was bullied, laughed at, and people saw me as a monster. So maybe I am a monster. After all, your parents thought so.”

Oh God.

“So do not stand there and tell me you understand how I’m feeling because you fucking don’t! You just don’t. Now I want you to do what I asked you. Or else there will be severe consequences.”

And he means it too. He is not bluffing at all.

“You have a choice. Your boyfriend, or your parents.” and then he’s gone just like magic. He’s gone. He’s disappeared. And he’s left with an ultimatum. It’s either I kill my parents or the love of my life.
