Chapter Fifteen

Chapter Fifteen
I wake up in a groggy mood. This is it. This is the morning I've been dreading. The day I leave for University.

Days had passed since I last properly spoke to Mason...how we recently have been. In that intimate type of fashion. A part of me longs for his soft whispers and his romantic ways. My brain is constantly battling with my heart and I have to mentally kick it back out of my thoughts. No. Today is the day I go to my dream University. I cannot keep dwelling on Mason like this.

A part of me wonders if Mum will ever tell him the truth like she promised. The devilish side of me thinks maybe our love wouldn't be all so bad given the truth I've recently found out. Besides we aren't biological siblings, so....surely it's not wrong? Or is it? I don't know. Part of me feels so completely confused about everything that has come to light recently. I'm not sure how to take anything anymore and my anger with Mum is still lingering slightly on the surface. I do not wish to return to that horrid conversation of truth any time soon. If she speaks of it again, I want it to be with Mason and not me who is left to endure the secrecy between them both.

Once I'm dressed and ready for the morning, I begin to arrange my study books and pack all my favourite outfits in my blue suitcase. Dad said he would drive me and I'm relieved Mum won't be present during the drive there. Mum had decided to stay home with Mason, but I know Mason all to well to believe he is going to be staying home. He most probably will go out with his group of mates and staring trouble like they usually do. Our neighbour had practically arranged for security cameras to be fitted because of them.

As I carry my suitcase to Dad's car I notice Mum staying outside the front door, sniffling. My Mother has always been the emotional one within the whole family. Dad subtly rolls his eyes at her and pats me on the back as I push my suitcase into the back boot.

"Don't you worry love, she'll soon settle." He says jokingly but a part of me can't quite see the humour to his words. I look over at Mum while Dad closes the boot and walks round to the driver's side of the car. My Mum's eyes fix on mine and it's not long before Mason soon emerges from inside the house. I'm shocked to see his eyes are swollen and red. Mum looks over at him and surprise seems to fill her as well as me. We had never seen Mason cry before. This was the first time we had actually seen any kind of emotion in him. I finally realise how much he actually will miss me. I can't help but admit to myself that I will miss him too...but not just as a brother. As someone I love with all my heart.

"See you darling!! I'll visit! I promise!" She wails across to me, her tissue dabbing frantically at her eyes. I simply smile and nod at her. I decide against hugging her because I cannot bare goodbye's and my parents know this. Dad as usual doesn't seem fazed. I suppose he wanted rid of me and Mason ever since we entered our teens.

When I turn to get into the car I feel a hand grab out of my forearm. When I look up, I see Mason looking down at me. His eyes are streaming with tears, turning into dampness on his cheeks. Something tells me he has been crying all night long judging by the soreness of his bloodshot eyes. "Don't go..." He says barely in a whisper.

"I have to...this is my life. I need to live it." I say with a smile and reach up on my tip toes, giving him a hug and then planting a delicate kiss on his cheek. "I'll miss you, Mason..." I whisper into his ear and then pull away, turning back towards the car.

I feel his hand gradually let my hand drop from his and I have to fight not to look back at him. If I do I know I won't leave. My heart aches for him.

"Come on, love. Let's get going." My Dad exclaims from out the driver's window and I take a seat next to him in the car, shutting the door behind me. Mum and Mason wave us off and it's not long before our old car is trudging along our local motorway, taking me to my future...
