Chapter 311 Finding a Patron
Chapter 311 Finding a Patron
Today's weather is really nice.
Yesterday, Emily slept with James and Michael.
When she woke up, she was in James's arms. She rubbed her eyes and looked up to see James's handsome profile.
Emily smiled happily. She has two such good-looking brothers.
Emily wanted to quietly get out of bed to find her mom so she could brush her teeth, but just as she crawled out from under the blanket, she saw James open his eyes.
She felt a bit embarrassed. "James, did I wake you up?"
"No, I was about to wake up anyway."
He slowly sat up and patted Emily's little head.
James got out of bed first to put on his shoes, then lifted Emily down and helped her put on her shoes. The two of them glanced at Michael, who was still sleeping, then held hands and went to the bathroom to brush their teeth and wash up.
After washing her face, Emily ran to the walk-in closet to pick out clothes, but at the floor-to-ceiling window she saw the familiar black Maybach downstairs. A man in black clothes and black pants was leaning against the car door, looking up toward the master bedroom upstairs.
Huh? It's William!
She stood at the floor-to-ceiling window and waved to William downstairs, her smile brighter and more radiant than the sun about to rise.
The coldness in William's brows faded, and he stood up straight.
James, who had already changed clothes and come over, saw Emily waving downstairs. He walked over curiously to look and saw William downstairs, whom they hadn't seen in a long time. Joy immediately appeared on his face.
The wounds on William's body ached faintly, but seeing the children's smiles, he felt this pain could be ignored.
Emily changed her clothes, and James led her downstairs.
"Mr. Smith." Emily came out from inside the house, waving enthusiastically at William.
In her pink and white fluffy coat, like an adorable little bunny, she called out while running toward him.
William quickly stepped forward to catch her as she rushed toward him. The corners of his cold lips curved into a smile, softening his coldness.
William realized he had been standing here for a long time and must have gotten damp from the morning dew.
William pulled Emily out of his embrace, his voice low and calm. "I'm cold."
Emily didn't care whether he was cold or not.
But she seemed to smell something unusual.
She leaned closer to William's embrace, her delicate nose sniffing. The faint smell of rust was particularly obvious.
Emily said in surprise. "Mr. Smith, are you hurt?"
James, who had followed Emily out, immediately rushed forward when he heard this. "Dad, are you okay?"
Sophia had stayed up a bit late dealing with work yesterday and woke up a little later than usual.
Hearing Emily's clear voice calling out for Mr. Smith downstairs, she got up and slightly pulled open a gap in the curtains, and saw a man in black standing at the door downstairs.
Seeing James suddenly pull him into the house in a panic, she sensed something was wrong.
When she came downstairs, she saw that William's black trench coat had already been taken off by Emily and James.
"Mr. Smith, you have to be good, or the doctor will give you a butt shot."
Butt shots were something Emily could never get over—in her view, they were extremely painful.
Emily's words sounded so warm to William.
James looked at the medical kit in his hands, feeling confused about where to start.
Seeing Sophia come downstairs, he quickly ran over to ask for her help. "Mom, Dad is hurt. Can you help bandage him up?"
The bright lights in the living room shone down on William's face from above.
He had lost a lot of weight during this time and gotten darker, making him look even sharper, with a faint coldness about him.
"James, don't worry." Sophia touched James's head and said gently.
She had someone call the family doctor.
Because of Emily's poor health since childhood, whether at Seraphim Manor or at the Johnson family in Empire City, there were always doctors on standby at home.
William watched Sophia's series of actions, noticing how she kept her distance from him, and sighed that his sympathy ploy had failed.
The female doctor changed William's bandages and rewrapped his wounds.
During this time, James and Emily curiously looked at the nasty wound on his shoulder.
Every time the doctor sprinkled medicine powder, Emily made pained sounds, which sounded adorable.
Seeing the doctor about to leave after bandaging, Emily pointed at William's pale lips and asked the doctor. "Ma'am, doesn't Mr. Smith need a butt shot?"
James also thought of the magical effect of butt shots and nodded in agreement. "Maybe we should give Dad a shot."
That way, he'd get better faster.
The female doctor was amused by the children's ideas and said with a smile that it wasn't necessary for now.
Michael woke up leisurely upstairs. He was used to James and Emily already being up when he woke. Looking at the clothes prepared by the bedside, he washed up and came downstairs to see William sitting on the sofa.
"Dad!" Michael rushed over excitedly.
James quickly stopped him, saying, "Michael, slow down, Dad has wounds, you can't bump into him."
After losing weight, William's eye sockets looked even deeper, and his handsome features had become more rugged. He smiled and waved at Michael as he came over.
After the children finished breakfast, William took them out.
Sophia thought he was taking the children out to play and didn't pay much attention, turning back to her study to handle matters regarding the Forton County experimental base.
Ember, who had successfully divorced with her help before, sent over some revised details.
The two women, who had reconciled, discussed certain points about their work.
Meanwhile, in the steadily moving black Maybach.
Emily was animatedly talking about how Philip had bullied Sophia and Lyra yesterday.
"He yelled at Lyra and yelled at Mom, too. He's so mean."
Having found a new protector, Emily was practically ready to write "Big Bad Guy" on Philip's face.
James and Michael's mouths twitched.
This was the first time they'd heard Emily talk so much.
William listened very carefully.
Especially when Emily mentioned the moment Philip raised his hand to hit someone, William's eyes darkened, and he responded, "How about I tie him up later to make your mom feel better?"
Emily thought about it and decided that would work.
Since Lyra left the restaurant yesterday, Philip had first sent Kaitlyn back to the villa he bought for her, then drove to the Cole Mansion, only to be stopped by the security guard at the entrance.
Now the Cole family had a policy: Philip and dogs were not allowed.
Beep beep.
Philip, who had fallen asleep in his car, woke up drowsily and saw the familiar black Maybach. His eyes tensed.
The sight of William's familiar face made Philip angry.
His ex-wife and daughter were the biggest obstacles to him and Lyra getting back together.
He was about to get out of the car to have a good talk with him when he saw William bend down and lift Emily out of the car, even pausing to adjust her fluffy bunny hat for her.
Emily had just come out of the warm car, and when the cold wind hit her, she immediately scrunched up her neck.
"Is it very cold?" William's voice was low.
