Chapter 263
Chapter 263
"I can let you go, but you have to do one thing." I looked at him coldly.
"What thing?" Nash immediately asked.
"Turn yourself in to the police!" I said, word by word.
Nash’s composure shattered instantly, his face twisting in a sudden flash of panic. "No way," he stammered, the words rushing out. "If I go to jail, my life is finished!"
"I'm not going!" He turned to leave.
This time, I didn't have Liam stop him.
I let my actions do the talking, pulling out a recorder and hitting the play button.
Nash’s own voice filled the air, repeating his confession with brutal clarity.
Nash’s frantic attempt to flee came to a jarring halt. He spun around, his eyes wide with disbelief as he stared at me in pure terror.
"You... you clearly said that as long as I told you everything I knew, you would let me go." He still said with a glimmer of hope.
I smiled. "Yes."
"But who said I would definitely keep that promise?"
"Why be honest with a liar? I have no interest in being the fool in this scenario."
"I'm giving you two choices," I said, my voice hard and unwavering. "Either you walk in there yourself, or I take you there personally."
Nash hung his head, despair flashing in his eyes. He said reluctantly, "I'll go."
"I'll go myself."
I had said my piece; there was no reason to linger, so I turned and walked away.
"I'm only giving you three days," I said over my shoulder as I walked away. "After that, whatever happens next is on you."
I didn't look at Nash's face and walked away quickly.
Once we were out of earshot, Liam turned to me, his brow furrowed. "So, what's the next move?"
"Are you really going to look for that person like he said?"
I nodded. "I have to find him!"
Seeing how determined I was, Liam couldn't help but ask, "What's your relationship with him? Why do you have to find him?"
I cast a quick glance at him before finally offering an explanation. "Maybe he’s the only one who can truly unlock the memories I've lost."
Liam looked at me with a complicated expression and suddenly said, "Maybe when you get your old memories back, you won't be as happy as you are now?"
I looked at him seriously. "Whether I'm happy or not, it's my choice."
"I’ll take the pain over this emptiness," I admitted, my voice trembling with anxiety. "Liam, please. I can't do this without you."
"I want to know these things. I want to get my memories back!"
I spoke sincerely and seriously.
Liam let out a long, silent sigh. He didn't offer any more questions or protests, simply stating, "I'll take you there."
Seeing him say this, a flash of surprise crossed my eyes. "You? Do you already know this person?"
Liam didn't explain, only saying, "Let's talk about it after you fully recover."
Soon.
Following Liam's lead, I arrived at a villa complex tucked away in a quiet, secluded corner of the city.
The area was far from any mountains or water, yet it possessed a quiet charm, with a sparse population that ensured a sense of total seclusion.
Liam didn't go in but stood at the entrance and said, "He's inside. Go in, I'll wait for you outside."
I didn't go in right away but looked at Liam and said slowly, "Liam, whether I recover my memories or not, I'll remember what you've done for me."
Liam glanced at me and smiled.
But the smile seemed somewhat forced.
"Go in," Liam said.
I gave a firm nod and, without a moment's hesitation, stepped inside.
The truth was so close, yet I felt unusually heavy.
With each step, my heartbeat quickened.
It was hard to wrap my head around the fact that it had taken so many years just to reach this moment—the day I would finally uncover the truth.
I pushed open the door. The villa had traditional decor.
A scent of herbs hit me.
The familiar scent acted as a trigger, pulling at the threads of my memory. I felt a surge of images ready to flood my mind, but something—a faint, invisible barrier—held them just out of reach.
Then I saw a man in a long robe. Even though over twenty years had passed, he still looked as young as in my memory.
I couldn't help but be surprised, yet it also felt normal.
If he didn't have special abilities, how could he be called a miracle doctor?
Instead of the shock I expected, he looked up and greeted me as if I’d never left. "Just getting here?" he asked, his tone casual and familiar.
"I've been waiting for you for several years."
I smiled bitterly. "I only just remembered you."
The man was calm, flicking his sleeves naturally. "Everything has its order. Gain and loss happen in an instant. Since God arranged for you to come now, there's a reason for it."
I nodded. "I'm grateful for the lesson."
My face went serious. "I need the truth about the past. Are you going to help me remember, or not?"
The man nodded. "Since you found me, it means the time has come."
He gestured to me and said, "Please sit."
I sat down and extended my hand to him.
The man placed a stethoscope on my chest and said slowly, "Your blood contains extremely high concentrations of active factors, but too much has been drawn, causing irreversible damage."
"You always did think too much. My decision to seal your past was an act of protection, not a desire to see you suffer."
As he spoke, he took out silver needles. "This acupuncture technique not only sealed your memories but also sealed your past emotions."
Emotions?
I caught the keyword instantly, my expression shifting as I processed its weight.
I had always believed my feelings for Liam were simply love at first sight, but now it seemed they were something much deeper—something destined.
"However," the man looked at me seriously, "you've grown up now and can recover your past memories. But I must warn you first—the process of removing the needles will be more painful than drawing blood. Can you handle it?"
He stared at me intently, as if trying to see through all my expressions.
I nodded without hesitation. "I can handle it!"
The man gave a slow nod, then stepped outside and issued a sharp command to Liam. "Watch the door. No interruptions, no matter what."
Liam, standing at the distant doorway, agreed.
Soon, the man walked up to me and said, "Are you ready?"
"Once we start, there's no way to pause."
I took a breath and agreed.
Soon.
The man picked up the silver needles and inserted them one by one according to memory.
Nine needles in total, until the last needle pierced my chest.
A stabbing pain came from my mind, and I couldn't help but cry out.
At the same time, all the memories came flooding out.
I closed my eyes.
I remembered!
That night at the lighthouse, Liam didn't fail to come—but he just couldn't protect me.
He was beaten bloody by Ryder's men, but even so, he held tightly onto the red gemstone necklace he had given me.
Until he was thrown into the sea.
I stood there in a daze, watching the red gemstone sink completely into the ocean.
Then, little me let out a heart-wrenching roar.
"Liam!"
The huge shock was too much for me to bear, and I passed out.
