Chapter 261
Chapter 261
Yara was beside me. Seeing me wake up, she asked, "How was it? What did you dream about?"
I shook my head, trying to sort through my thoughts.
Perhaps losing my memories wasn't just related to being sick - maybe it also had something to do with that person who had been treating me.
I had to find him!
But I didn't know his name. To find him, I'd probably have to start with someone else!
That con artist!
The so-called Nash!
Right away, I called Liam. "Help me find someone!"
"A man who used to call himself a miracle doctor, named Nash."
Liam immediately said, "Give me half a day."
I hung up after saying that to him.
I said to Yara, "Thank you. I've already recovered quite a few old memories. But to fully recover, I'm afraid I'll need a few more sessions."
Yara said gently, "That's fine. When it's time for the next one, I'll let you know. Whatever happens, tell me, and I'll help you through it."
I agreed and left.
Soon, Liam got back to me.
He'd found Nash.
I acted immediately, quietly tracking him down.
Nash looked even older now.
He was in a game store, looking all cocky and rebellious.
"Nash, this game just came in. They say the experience is really intense. There's only one copy right now. I'm asking you first because I consider you a friend. If you don't want it, I'll sell it to someone else."
Inside the store, the owner put his arm around Nash and asked with a knowing look.
A wave of disgust rose in my chest.
This guy was so old, and he was still into this kind of thing.
Nash blinked, looking hesitant.
Liam explained beside me, "Nash recently fell for a woman named Eleanor Mitchell. He's been spending all his money on her."
"Nash is such an idiot - he doesn't ask for anything back, just treats Eleanor well with all his heart."
Liam's expression was mocking. "He's a complete idiot."
I frowned but didn't interrupt.
I waited for Liam to continue.
He said, "Whatever Eleanor asks for, Nash will do everything he can to give it to her. All the money he's made these years, he's spent it all on Eleanor. Eleanor promised that as long as Nash doesn't fall for another woman within a month, she'll be his girlfriend."
I laughed.
Wasn't this just a scam?
Nash had conned people his whole life, and now someone was conning him?
Liam naturally knew what I was thinking and said mockingly, "This guy keeps counting down to that day in his head, just waiting. Now there's only one day left until the deadline, and he has already spent this month's salary buying Eleanor clothes. He's only got about a hundred dollars left, and it'll be at least half a month before he gets paid again."
I looked at Nash. After hesitating several times, he reluctantly shook his head. "Forget it, maybe next time."
Seeing this, the owner rolled his eyes and walked over to shove the game disc into Nash's hands. "Be good to yourself for once. You never buy anything for yourself. You don't really think Eleanor's going to be your girlfriend, do you?"
"What would she see in you - that you're old? That you don't shower?"
"You know, money is for women to see, not for them to spend." The owner paused, then blinked gossipily. "You treat her so well - has she even let you kiss her?"
Nash didn't answer, just protested, "Eleanor won't lie to me."
"She said once we're together, she'll give me everything."
Seeing he was hopeless, the owner didn't say more, just snorted. "I'll lend you this game for now. If Eleanor really becomes your girlfriend, you don't have to pay me."
"Just remember: keep being a doormat and you'll end up with nothing."
With that, the owner ignored Nash's reaction and turned to greet other customers.
Nash gripped the disc in his hand, his expression serious.
His phone chimed with a notification.
Nash glanced at it and his face lit up with joy.
It was Eleanor.
"Baby, what are you up to?"
I could hear the intimate tone even from far away.
Nash's heart skipped a beat.
He murmured, "Eleanor is different from other women. She really cares about me."
Before Nash could reply, Eleanor's call came through.
We leaned in to look.
On the screen, Eleanor wore a deep V-neck dress, with her makeup looking especially attractive, though she seemed to be outside.
Vaguely, a pair of black leather shoes flashed across the video.
Nash's heart clearly tightened.
Eleanor pouted and asked, "Why didn't you reply to me?"
Nash's face was full of joy as he quickly explained, "I just looked at my phone and was about to reply when you called."
"Are you going out?" He couldn't help but ask carefully.
Liam sneered, "This Eleanor is a con artist. She and Nash have fought several times. This woman doesn't like Nash being too controlling, and they've argued about it many times."
I said mockingly, "So in the end, Nash is the one who gives in."
Sure enough, as soon as Nash finished speaking, Eleanor's expression changed.
She asked coldly, "Are you doubting me?"
Nash quickly waved his hands in denial. "No, I'm just worried about you."
Eleanor snorted. Her expression softened a bit, but she still looked unhappy. She raised the camera to show the people around her.
They were all women.
Eleanor explained, "My friend's birthday - we're just going shopping and having dinner together. Are you really going to doubt even this?"
Liam added, "She's actually at a party with hot guys."
Nash didn't know. Seeing this, he relaxed and looked guilty.
"Nash," Eleanor said, taking the initiative when he didn't speak, "I'm meeting my friends - you should give me some money, right?"
"These are all my best friends. It's your first time meeting them - you can't let me be embarrassed, can you?"
After speaking, Eleanor blinked her eyes, looking at him expectantly.
On the other side of the screen, the other women crowded into view, smiling. "Nash, we hear Eleanor mention you all the time."
"You're so good to Eleanor. We're her best friends - you'll be good to us too, right?"
Their words put Nash in a difficult position.
Nash looked troubled but forced out a smile. "Eleanor's right. I should buy you all gifts."
"I'll transfer money to Eleanor in a bit. Consider it my treat for dinner. Please take good care of her for me."
As soon as he said that, Eleanor and the others smiled genuinely, said a few more words, and hung up.
Nash couldn't smile anymore.
I knew he only had a hundred dollars - where was he going to get the money?
On the other side, Nash's phone rang again.
I happened to be able to see - Eleanor had sent another photo.
