Chapter 235 Calamity Diverted Eastward

Chapter 235 Calamity Diverted Eastward

Evelyn paused for a moment.

She put down her silver fork, looked at Tyler, and said seriously, "Mr. Thompson, the company can't do without me right now. Sentience BioTech just got started, the AI project just launched, and the brain-computer interface is still being prepared for market. None of these projects can be taken lightly."

She paused, "But if the base needs help, I can go over anytime. As for taking the position, let's forget about it."

Tyler looked at her and nodded without insisting.

"That's fair. Everyone has their own aspirations. I completely respect your decision."

Evelyn smiled, picked up her coffee cup, and raised it to Tyler.

The next day, OmniFront Labs officially launched its AI project.

Once the news was released, OmniFront Labs' website crashed three times within half an hour. The number of resumes in the HR inbox quickly reached four digits, and even the servers were lagging.

Such a big move attracted attention from countless companies. CEOs were calling Qiana one after another to find out what was going on.

Brandon was no exception.

However, he was calling to check on Evelyn.

"Evelyn, do you need help with the AI project? Funding or talent, just say the word," Brandon asked.

Evelyn walked to the window holding her phone and smiled, "I can manage for now. If I need anything, I'll let you know."

Brandon sighed helplessly, "I want to help but don't know where to start. Alright, I'll hang up then."

Just as Evelyn was about to turn back to her desk, the office door was pushed open abruptly.

Qiana rushed in, her face pale, the tablet in her hand almost trembling, her voice changed.

"Ms. Thomas, something's happened!"

Evelyn took the tablet. On the screen was a morning news article with a headline in bold red text:

#Nguyen Tech Group crisis was a frame-up, implicated employee personally admits: acting under OmniFront Labs' instructions.

Below the news, there was a photo of Victor with his face pixelated. He stood in front of the camera, head down, speaking into a microphone.

"That evidence was fake. I forged it myself. People from OmniFront Labs found me, gave me money, and told me to report Nguyen Tech Group. It's my fault. I'm sorry to everyone, sorry to Nguyen Tech Group."

Evelyn's fingers gripping the tablet tightened sharply, her knuckles turning white.

Her brows furrowed, and the corner of her mouth twitched—not a smile, but a cold realization.

She immediately knew whose work this was.

The Nguyen family really knew how to scheme.

To divert attention, they didn't hesitate to slander her.

She returned the tablet to Qiana, her voice cold, "Contact the legal team immediately. Sue that lying employee directly, no mercy."

Qiana nodded and was about to turn around when Evelyn called her back, "Wait."

She looked down at the overwhelming messages online. The topic had already rushed to the top three trending searches, and the comment count was growing rapidly.

She calmly took screenshots of those slanderous posts and vicious comments one by one, saving them. The folder instantly filled with dozens of images.

"Send these screenshots to the legal team too. Tell them not only to sue that employee, but also to deal with these paid troll groups online. Try to catch them all in one sweep this time."

She looked up at Qiana, her gaze unprecedentedly calm, "It would be best if we could trace the mastermind behind this."

"Okay." Qiana took the tablet, glanced at it, and gasped.

These paid trolls' comments were too vicious, all cursing Evelyn. Some even said Evelyn was jealous of Maggie, which was why she did such shameless things.

Complete fabrication!

"These people are too much!" Qiana couldn't help feeling indignant for Evelyn.

Evelyn just smiled, "What's there to be afraid of? Keep them as evidence. The more they curse, the better."

The news spread quickly.

In the living room of the Miller Manor, Grace sat on the sofa, remote control in hand, watching a replay of that news on the TV screen.

After watching, she frowned and turned to look at Luke.

"Luke, what's really going on? Did Evelyn really do this?" Her tone carried some uncertainty.

Luke sat on the opposite sofa, the coffee in his hand already cold.

He frowned and said nothing.

Amelia sat beside him and snorted, "It must have been her. She's jealous that Luke and Maggie are together, so she's trying to suppress Maggie. That woman has a vicious heart."

Tina came down the stairs.

Hearing Amelia's words, she paused.

Then she walked over and sat down on the sofa, saying, "I don't think Evelyn did it."

"That person, although I don't like her much, has always been straightforward in her actions. She wouldn't stoop to such shameless tactics. Besides, with her current status, she doesn't need to target Maggie at all."

Amelia wanted to argue back, but Tina had already turned to look at the TV and stopped talking.

Grace looked at Luke, her tone becoming serious, "Whether Evelyn did it or not, you must handle this matter properly. We can't let Evelyn suffer unnecessary harm."

"Besides, she's Andy's mother. If her reputation is damaged, Andy's reputation won't be much better in the future. Do you understand?"

Amelia interjected again, "If you ask me, Luke should just marry Maggie and say Andy is Maggie's child. What's wrong with that? People outside don't know the truth anyway. This way everyone's reputation is protected."

Grace's expression darkened, and her voice became colder, "Mom, don't talk nonsense. Andy is Evelyn's child. That's an unchangeable fact. What would people say if they heard you talk like this?"

Amelia opened her mouth, but seeing Grace's expression, she swallowed her words, snorted, and said nothing more.

Grace continued, "Anyway, Luke, you must handle this matter properly. We can't let people mock the Miller family."

"I know." Luke nodded, his expression somber.

OmniFront Labs' legal team was very efficient and got to the bottom of things in less than two days.

The employee involved, Victor, the whistleblower from the Nguyen Tech Group factory, disappeared the same night after holding a press conference admitting to "spreading false information."

His rental apartment was empty, his phone was disconnected, and he didn't even visit his wife's grave to say goodbye.

Qiana walked into Evelyn's office with the investigation report, looking troubled.

"Ms. Thomas, that employee has run away. We checked his immigration records—no exit records. He must have been hidden by someone. Getting him to clarify things personally is probably impossible now."

Evelyn took the report, flipped through a few pages, closed it and placed it on the desk. Her tone was calm, revealing no emotion.

"Got it. What's the situation online?"

Qiana sighed and handed over the tablet.

"It's getting worse. Paid trolls are still spreading rumors, plus some people who don't know the truth are all supporting Maggie's rights protection."

"Now online opinion is split into two camps. One group is cursing you, saying you're narrow-minded and jealous. The other group is cursing Maggie, saying she's two-faced and playing innocent. The comment section is unwatchable—it's chaos."

Evelyn scrolled through those comments, her expression remaining calm throughout.

She took screenshots of the vicious ones and saved them, skipped over the boring ones, as if reading a book that had nothing to do with her.

Finally, she returned the tablet to Qiana, "Prepare a press conference, as soon as possible."
