Chapter 234 Bribery
Chapter 234 Bribery
Maggie didn't respond. She looked at him: "Uncle Benjamin, you need to handle things with the government. Money is no object - what matters is getting them to slow down the investigation."
"Even though Victor submitted solid evidence, we can say that evidence was fabricated. You also need to find a way to clean up the other problems - we absolutely cannot let anyone trace anything back to us."
Benjamin's eyes lit up, and he nodded repeatedly: "Got it, I'll get on it right away."
He stood up, grabbed his coat, and hurried out the door.
Maggie let out a long breath.
She returned to the sofa and sat down, picked up her phone, scrolled to Luke's number, and dialed.
The call connected quickly.
Maggie took a deep breath, trying to make her voice sound relaxed.
"Luke, I've gotten to the bottom of it - someone was deliberately spreading false rumors."
"It was an employee at the factory who was unhappy with the company and intentionally fabricated that evidence. I've already found him, and he'll come forward to clear things up. This will be resolved soon."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end.
When Luke spoke again, his tone carried a hint of skepticism: "Really just rumors? Maggie, are you sure?"
Maggie's fingers tightened around the phone as she said, "I'm sure. Luke, would I lie to you about something like this?"
Luke made a sound of acknowledgment. "That's good then. Take care of yourself. I'm hanging up."
The call ended.
Maggie placed her phone on the sofa, leaned back against the chair, and closed her eyes.
The night outside was deep and dark. The living room lights shone on her face, making it look deathly pale.
She sat there with her eyes closed, motionless, like a statue.
The next day, at the Hernandez Group.
Frank was sitting behind his desk, with his assistant standing in front of him holding a fax, hesitating to speak.
"Mr. Hernandez, this is a message from OmniFront Labs."
The assistant's voice was very low. "They're saying that if we want to continue cooperating with OmniFront Labs, we must immediately terminate all business dealings with Nguyen Tech Group and BlueSky Biotech. Otherwise, they'll have to reconsider the partnership."
Frank looked up, his brow furrowed so deeply you could crush a fly in it.
"Evelyn wants to destroy them completely?"
He slammed the pen in his hand onto the desk, his voice loud enough for the entire floor to hear: "Who does she think she is? Does she think she's a queen? That she can blacklist whoever she wants?"
The assistant carefully tried to persuade him: "Mr. Hernandez, OmniFront Labs is currently our biggest partner. If we lose this partnership, the impact on the company would be huge. How about we agree to their terms for now, and we can figure out the Nguyen Tech Group situation later..."
"Shut up!" Frank suddenly stood up, pointing at the assistant's nose, his voice loud and aggressive.
"You want me to cut ties with Maggie for OmniFront Labs? Let me tell you, impossible! I'm not the kind of person who betrays people. Maggie's in trouble now - if I don't help her, who will?"
"Besides, I've been fed up with that self-righteous woman Evelyn for a long time. The more she wants me to leave Maggie, the more I won't."
The assistant opened his mouth. He wanted to say more, but seeing Frank's livid face, he swallowed his words and quickly left the room.
He returned to his desk, hesitated for a moment, then picked up the landline and dialed a number.
Soon after, Frank's phone rang.
He picked it up and saw it was his uncle Ryder.
He took a deep breath and answered the call.
"Uncle Ryder." Frank's voice was lower, but still stiff.
Ryder's voice came through the receiver - not loud, but every word carried undeniable authority:
"Listen carefully. You're going to contact OmniFront Labs right now, agree to their terms, and terminate all cooperation with Nguyen Tech Group and BlueSky Biotech."
"The Nguyen Tech Group situation is no small matter - toxic metal contamination, cutting corners - these are criminal issues. If you get involved, you'll get burned. Don't say I didn't warn you."
Frank's face turned red, his voice hardening: "Uncle Ryder, Maggie is my friend. She's in trouble now - I can't abandon her at a time like this. Besides..."
"Besides, Evelyn is settling personal scores. She just can't stand Maggie and wants to push her into a corner. I can't help her do that."
Ryder's voice suddenly turned cold: "You're willing to ignore your own company for a woman? You won't even listen to me? Let me tell you, if you dare to break off cooperation with OmniFront Labs, you don't need to come back to the Hernandez family or the Rivera family ever again. I mean what I say."
Frank gritted his teeth, was silent for a few seconds, then said: "I don't need you to manage me."
Then he hung up directly.
The phone screen went dark.
He didn't believe that there was no one in Oceancrest City who could deal with Evelyn!
Meanwhile.
Evelyn sat at her desk with OmniFront Labs' latest organizational chart spread out in front of her.
The new AI project department was already drawn in, with "Global Recruitment in Progress" written in a dotted box.
She thought for a moment, picked up her pen, and added a few more strokes to the chart.
Her assistant Qiana knocked and entered, her expression somewhat awkward, holding her phone and hesitating before speaking.
"Ms. Thomas, Frank has clearly rejected our terms. Not only has he not terminated cooperation with Nguyen Tech Group and BlueSky Biotech, he also made a statement in an internal meeting saying that OmniFront Labs is bullying people and he won't give in."
Evelyn looked up at her, her face showing no surprise.
Her tone was flat: "I see."
Qiana stood in front of the desk, hesitating, but finally couldn't help asking:
"Ms. Thomas, although the Hernandez Group can't compare to OmniFront Labs, they're still an established company in Oceancrest City with extensive connections. If we break with them like this, won't it..."
Evelyn put down her pen and looked at her, her tone unhurried.
"My original cooperation with Frank was only out of consideration for Ryder. Now that he wants to terminate the cooperation himself, we have nothing holding us back. Although the Hernandez Group is an established Oceancrest City company, when it comes to cutting-edge technology, they're far behind several other companies."
She leaned back in her chair, her gaze confident. "With or without this partnership, OmniFront Labs will still be a winner at the forefront."
Qiana suddenly understood and smiled: "You're absolutely right. Now I feel better about it."
Then she turned and left.
Her phone suddenly rang.
Evelyn picked it up and saw it was Luke.
She hesitated for a moment, then answered, her tone cold: "What is it?"
"Evelyn, we need to meet." Luke's voice was cold and heavy. "There are some things we need to discuss in person."
Evelyn said: "If it's not particularly important, given our current relationship, we shouldn't be meeting."
Luke was silent for a second, then said: "It's business."
"Can't you say it over the phone?" Evelyn had little patience.
There was another few seconds of silence on the other end, and when Luke's voice came again, it carried a hint of probing: "The Nguyen family situation - did you do it?"
Evelyn's grip on the phone tightened, and she laughed coldly: "You really have quite the imagination."
"I'm just asking." Luke said.
Evelyn's anger flared up immediately. "Luke, if you're sick, go to a hospital."
She hung up directly.
Then she picked up the documents on her desk and continued reading.
That evening, Evelyn and Tyler met for dinner at a quiet restaurant.
The private room wasn't large, the lighting was soft, and the table held several light dishes.
Tyler's hair was whiter than the last time they'd met, but he seemed to be in good spirits.
He and Evelyn chatted about company development for a while, then suddenly changed the subject:
"Evelyn, the people up top think very highly of you. At the last internal meeting, Mark specifically mentioned the SkyEye System results, saying you deserved much of the credit."
He paused, then revealed his real purpose: "Someone asked me to find out if you'd be willing to take a position at the base? An official position, with benefits and excellent compensation."
