Chapter 76 Chapter 76
It was a bright Saturday morning. The sun was already high, and the sound of birds filled the big compound. Savannah sat on the couch in the living room, rubbing her belly gently. She had just finished breakfast and was watching a movie when a loud voice came from the gate.
“Tell your boss that his favourite aunty is here!”
Savannah turned quickly. That voice was impossible to mistake — it was Aunty Lisa, Adrian’s talkative aunty.
The maids rushed out, smiling and greeting her. Aunty Lisa walked in proudly, dressed in a bright yellow gown and a big hat. She looked full of life as always. “Where is that stubborn nephew of mine?” she shouted playfully. “I came to see my new daughter-in-law!”
Savannah laughed softly, trying to stand up, but before she could, Aunty Lisa was already beside her.
“Oh, my God! Look at you!” she said, holding Savannah’s face in both hands. “You’re glowing like sunshine. Ehn! Pregnancy fits you, my dear. Adrian is so lucky!”
Savannah blushed and smiled shyly. “Good morning, ma.”
“Morning? Please, don’t call me ma,” Lisa said quickly, waving her hand. “Call me Aunty Lisa or I won’t answer you. You’re family now!”
Savannah chuckled. “Okay, Aunty Lisa.”
“Good girl,” she said, sitting beside her. “Where’s Adrian? He didn’t even tell me you were staying here. I had to find out from Victoria, that gossip sister of mine. I told him he’s too secretive for my liking.”
Savannah smiled. “He went to the office this morning. He said he won’t stay long.”
Aunty Lisa sighed loudly. “Ah, work, work, work! That boy will marry his office one day. If not for you now, he would have turned into a robot!”
Savannah laughed again. “He loves his work.”
“Hmm, love work but don’t forget home,” she said, shaking her head. “Anyway, I’m happy he found someone like you. You have peace written all over your face. I can tell you have a good heart.”
Savannah smiled shyly. “Thank you, Aunty.”
Lisa looked around the big living room and clapped her hands. “Ah! See house! This boy did not waste time oh! The whole place is shining. You see those maids? They even fear you more than him. That’s when you know a woman is in charge!”
Savannah chuckled. “They’re very nice.”
“I can see,” Lisa said, lowering her voice as if gossiping. “One of them almost fainted when she saw me at the gate. Maybe she thought I came to sack her.”
Savannah burst out laughing. “Aunty, you’re funny.”
“I know, my dear. I bring light wherever I go,” she said proudly, flipping her hat.
Just then, Adrian walked in through the door, holding his car keys. The moment he saw Aunty Lisa, his eyes widened. “Oh no…” he muttered.
Lisa turned and smiled widely. “Ah! Look at my handsome nephew!”
Adrian groaned. “Aunty Lisa, I thought you were in the village.”
“I was! But you didn’t tell me you were living with your woman, eh? You want me to hear it from outsiders?”
Adrian sighed and rubbed his forehead. “Aunty please, not now.”
“Not now?” she said, standing up and hugging him tight. “You better thank me for coming to bless your house. You’re lucky I love Savannah already, or I would have scattered this place with questions.”
Savannah tried to hold her laughter. Adrian looked helpless. “Please don’t start, Aunty. You’ll scare her.”
Lisa turned to Savannah and smiled. “Don’t mind him, jare. He’s just shy. When he was small, he used to hide under the table anytime a girl smiled at him. And now see him — living with a woman and even expecting a baby. Wonders shall never end!”
Savannah’s face turned red with laughter, while Adrian covered his face. “Aunty please stop embarrassing me.”
“Embarrassing you? My dear, I’m telling her the truth. You used to cry when I braided your hair!”
Savannah laughed harder. “Really?”
“Yes oh!” Lisa said, smiling proudly. “This your husband is a crybaby!”
Adrian gave up and sat down. “You win, Aunty.”
“Of course, I always win,” she said, winking.
After a while, the maids brought juice and snacks for them. They all sat down and talked for a long time. Lisa told funny stories about Adrian’s childhood — how he once ran away from home because he thought his mother cooked frog soup, and how he got stuck in a tree while trying to impress a girl.
Savannah laughed so much that tears came out of her eyes. “You two are so funny,” she said.
“That’s because we’re family,” Lisa said proudly. “And you’re one of us now.”
Adrian smiled softly, watching Savannah laugh. He hadn’t seen her this happy in a while.
When it was time for Aunty Lisa to go, she stood up and hugged Savannah. “Take care of yourself, my dear. If this boy troubles you, just call me. I’ll handle him.”
Savannah smiled warmly. “Thank you, Aunty Lisa.”
As she left, she turned to Adrian and shouted from the door, “And don’t forget to plan my invitation card oh! I must be the first to see it when you two finally marry!”
Adrian just shook his head and laughed while Savannah blushed deeply.
When the door finally closed, he looked at her and said softly, “You see what I deal with?”
Savannah giggled. “I like her. She’s funny.”
Adrian smiled. “That’s why she’s everyone’s favorite.”
The two of them shared a quiet laugh, and Savannah leaned her head on his shoulder. The house felt warm again, filled with laughter and love — something she hadn’t felt in a long time.
