Chapter 75 Chapter 75
The night was calm and peaceful. The stars shone bright through the open balcony of Savannah’s room. The air carried the sweet smell of roses that Adrian had planted around the garden just for her.
Savannah sat on the bed, dressed in a loose gown. Her belly had grown big — she was already nine months gone. Sometimes she would rub it softly and smile, whispering to the baby.
Adrian walked in quietly, holding a tray of fruits and a glass of warm milk. “You didn’t eat much today,” he said, setting the tray beside her.
Savannah smiled a little. “I wasn’t hungry.”
He frowned playfully. “You’re always saying that, Savannah. You know you have to eat for two now.”
She laughed softly. “You sound like the doctor.”
Adrian sat beside her, his eyes soft and full of care. “Then maybe you should listen to both of us.”
She shook her head shyly. “You worry too much.”
He smiled and picked up a slice of apple, bringing it close to her lips. “Please. Just a few bites.”
Savannah looked at him and sighed. “You won’t stop until I eat, right?”
“Not a chance,” he replied with a small grin.
She opened her mouth and took a bite, her eyes meeting his for a second. There was something gentle in the way he looked at her — something that made her heart beat faster every time.
After she finished the fruit, Adrian helped her lean back on the bed. He brushed her hair slowly with his fingers. “You look tired.”
“I’m fine,” she said softly. “Just heavy.”
Adrian chuckled. “Well, that’s because someone in there is growing strong.” He placed his palm gently on her belly. The baby kicked, and both of them smiled.
Savannah giggled. “He always moves when you touch me.”
“Maybe he knows my voice,” Adrian said proudly. “He’ll grow up to be as strong as his father.”
Savannah froze a little, her eyes dropping. “Adrian…” she whispered. “He’s not your child.”
Adrian’s smile faded, but he didn’t remove his hand. “I know, Savannah. But I love him like mine. And I love you.”
Her eyes softened, but she didn’t speak. She didn’t know what to say. For two months, Adrian had treated her like a queen. He made sure she lacked nothing. He never forced her, never raised his voice. He was kind — too kind.
She looked at him, tears gathering in her eyes. “You’ve done so much for me, Adrian. I don’t even know how to repay you.”
“You don’t have to repay me,” he said, holding her hand. “Just be happy. That’s enough for me.”
Savannah looked down at their joined hands. “You make it sound so easy.”
He smiled gently. “Love is not hard, Savannah. It’s people who make it complicated.”
There was silence. Only the sound of crickets filled the air. Adrian reached out and wiped a tear from her cheek. “Don’t cry, please.”
“I’m just… scared,” she said softly. “Everything happened so fast. Sometimes I feel like I’m dreaming.”
“Then I’ll make sure it’s a dream you’ll never want to wake up from,” Adrian said in a quiet voice.
Savannah’s heart melted. She looked into his eyes — those eyes that always made her feel safe. Without thinking much, she leaned closer and placed her head on his chest.
Adrian wrapped his arm around her and held her tight. “You don’t know what you mean to me,” he whispered.
She smiled weakly. “You’ve said that before.”
“And I’ll keep saying it,” he said, pressing a light kiss on her forehead.
Savannah closed her eyes, breathing in his scent. It was warm and calm. She hadn’t felt this kind of peace in a long time.
Minutes passed. They stayed like that — just holding each other.
“Adrian?” she called quietly.
“Yes?”
“What if one day, Nathaniel comes looking for me?”
Adrian’s hand paused. For a moment, he said nothing. Then he kissed her hair and replied softly, “Then he’ll see a woman who’s no longer his.”
Savannah didn’t respond, but her heart beat faster. She didn’t know what the future would bring, but right now, being in Adrian’s arms felt right.
Adrian whispered again, “You and the baby are my world now. That’s all I care about.”
Savannah smiled, tears rolling down again — not from sadness this time, but from the warmth that filled her heart.
Outside, the wind blew softly against the curtains, and the stars glittered brighter.
That night, as Adrian held Savannah close, he silently promised himself that he would protect her and their unborn child — no matter what it cost him.
