Chapter 70 Chapter 70
The afternoon sun shone through the tall windows of Aunty Victoria’s big sitting room. The house smelled of fresh flowers and baked bread. Aunty Grace sat on the long sofa, sipping orange juice while reading a magazine.
Aunty Victoria came out from the kitchen with a plate of meat pie and placed it on the glass table. “Here, Grace, eat something. You’ve been sitting there since morning.”
Grace smiled and dropped her magazine. “Thank you, sister. You know I can’t resist your baking.”
They both laughed softly. The two sisters had always been close, and now that Adrian was like a son to them, he was often the center of their talks.
After a few minutes of silence, Grace looked up. “So… I heard Adrian finally allowed someone into his heart.”
Victoria smiled warmly. “Yes, her name is Savannah. Such a beautiful name, right?”
Grace nodded. “I’ve been dying to meet her. Adrian never lets us meet his women, you know. But this one seems different. I can see it in his face. He looks calmer these days.”
Victoria sat beside her sister and nodded. “You’re right. I’ve met her already. That girl is so humble, Grace. You won’t believe she’s carrying his child. She doesn’t even act proud or bossy like most women would.”
Grace’s eyes widened. “She’s pregnant?”
Victoria smiled softly. “Yes. Eight months now, almost nine. Adrian told me everything. She has been through a lot, Grace. Life wasn’t fair to her before he met her.”
Grace leaned forward. “Tell me, what kind of person is she? Is she really good for him?”
Victoria smiled again, remembering Savannah’s shy smile and quiet voice. “Grace, from the moment I saw her, I knew she was different. You can see the pain in her eyes, but also peace. She doesn’t talk too much. She greets everyone politely. The maids love her already.”
Grace smiled and took a bite from her pie. “That’s good. Adrian deserves a woman with a clean heart. For years he has been alone, hiding behind work. I was worried he’d never find someone.”
Victoria nodded slowly. “Exactly. Savannah came like light into his life. You should see how he looks at her — with so much love. I haven’t seen that look on his face since he was a boy.”
Grace smiled warmly. “Then she must be special.”
Victoria sighed softly. “Very special. You know, she lost so much before meeting Adrian. She was married before, but her husband treated her badly and left her when she got pregnant.”
Grace gasped. “Oh dear, poor girl.”
“Yes,” Victoria said sadly. “She almost lost her life trying to survive alone. But Adrian found her when she was sick and weak. He helped her, took care of her, and now look — he’s planning to make her his wife.”
Grace shook her head slowly. “This world is wicked. How can a man leave his wife like that? But thank God for Adrian. That boy has a heart of gold.”
Victoria smiled proudly. “He got that from our family. He’s always been kind, always ready to help.”
Grace chuckled. “But also stubborn, just like his father.”
They both laughed. The air felt warm and peaceful.
After a while, Grace asked, “So when is he planning to marry her officially?”
Victoria sighed. “He said after the baby comes. He doesn’t want to stress her now. You know she’s almost due.”
Grace nodded. “That’s wise. I can’t wait to hold that baby. It’ll be our first grandchild in a long while.”
Victoria smiled, her eyes soft. “Yes, I can’t wait either. I’ve already told the tailor to start making baby clothes. I want everything ready.”
Grace laughed loudly. “You and your excitement! You’re acting like it’s your own child.”
Victoria laughed too. “Well, it feels like it. Savannah is like a daughter to me already.”
Grace’s face softened. “I like that. I can’t wait to meet her. You said she’s shy, right?”
“Yes,” Victoria replied. “But she’s getting used to everyone now. Adrian said she laughs more often these days. I think she’s beginning to heal.”
Grace smiled. “Love can do that. It fixes what pain broke.”
Victoria nodded. “True words, Grace. I just pray her past never comes back to hurt her. Adrian would be broken if anything happened to her.”
Grace looked thoughtful. “Does she still talk about her past husband?”
Victoria shook her head. “No, she avoids the topic completely. I think she just wants to forget everything.”
“Good,” Grace said softly. “That man doesn’t deserve a woman like her. She should focus on her new life.”
They both sat quietly for a moment, the sound of birds outside filling the room.
After a while, Grace said with a teasing smile, “So, when are we going to visit them? I want to see how this famous Savannah looks in person.”
Victoria laughed. “Soon, I promise. I’ll call Adrian tomorrow. But don’t scare the poor girl when you meet her, Grace. You know you talk too much.”
Grace rolled her eyes. “Oh please. I’m just friendly.”
Victoria chuckled. “Friendly is good, but not too much talk. Let the girl breathe.”
Grace laughed loudly. “Alright, I’ll try. But I’ll still tease Adrian a bit. I need to know how my quiet nephew fell so deep in love.”
Victoria smiled. “He fell for her heart, not her looks. That’s the kind of love that lasts.”
Grace leaned back on the sofa. “You’re right, sister. Maybe God finally sent him the right woman.”
Victoria nodded softly. “I believe so.”
The room went silent again for a few minutes. They could both feel happiness in their hearts, knowing Adrian had found peace after years of being alone.
Grace broke the silence again. “You know what, Victoria? I think we should start planning something small — maybe a welcome party after she delivers. That way, the whole family can meet her and the baby.”
Victoria clapped her hands happily. “That’s a beautiful idea! Savannah will feel loved.”
Grace smiled proudly. “Then it’s settled. Once she gives birth, we’ll celebrate.”
Victoria nodded, her eyes bright with joy. “I’ll start making the guest list.”
Grace laughed. “Always ahead of yourself. You haven’t even met her yet.”
Victoria smiled. “That’s how happy I am. I just want her to know she’s part of the family now.”
Grace stood up and hugged her sister. “You have such a big heart, Victoria. No wonder Adrian loves you so much.”
Victoria laughed softly. “Family is everything, Grace. And now, Savannah is part of that family too.”
They both sat down again, talking and laughing about baby names, baby clothes, and how Adrian would look carrying a baby. Their laughter filled the house, echoing warmth and love.
Outside, the sun slowly went down, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. The sisters didn’t notice. They just kept talking happily about the future — a future that finally looked bright for their beloved Adrian and the woman who had brought light back into his world.
