Chapter 69 Chapter 69
Adrian drove out that afternoon with a big smile on his face. He couldn’t stop thinking about Savannah. Every time her face came into his mind, he found himself smiling like a fool. The way she had finally said yes still played over and over in his head.
For the first time in a long while, he felt truly happy — like he had everything he ever wanted. The woman he loved was finally his.
He parked his car in front of his best friend’s house. Daniel had been his friend since college, the only person who truly knew him inside out. Without knocking, Adrian walked in. The maid opened the door for him with a bow.
Daniel came out from the living room holding a cup of juice. “Hey, look who we have here!” he said with a grin. “The mighty Adrian himself. What brings you here so early?”
Adrian laughed and sat down. “Can’t I visit my friend again?”
Daniel smiled. “You can, but you only show up when something big happens. So talk, what’s making you grin like that?”
Adrian leaned back on the couch, his eyes shining. “She said yes.”
Daniel frowned a bit. “Who?”
“Savannah,” Adrian said softly. “She finally accepted to be my wife.”
Daniel blinked in surprise. “Wait, are you serious?”
Adrian nodded, still smiling. “Yes, Daniel. After all these months of convincing and waiting, she finally agreed. I still can’t believe it myself.”
Daniel sat down slowly, shaking his head. “Wow. That’s something, man. I didn’t even think she’d ever accept. You really love this woman.”
Adrian chuckled. “I don’t just love her, Daniel. I adore her. She’s different. She’s gentle, kind, and pure. The kind of woman you can’t find twice.”
Daniel smiled a little. “I’ve never seen you talk like this before. You used to hate anything about marriage.”
Adrian laughed softly. “Yeah, that was before I met Savannah. She changed everything.”
They sat for a moment in silence, both sipping their drinks. The joy in Adrian’s face was clear. But Daniel looked thoughtful.
“Can I ask you something?” Daniel said quietly.
Adrian looked up. “Sure.”
Daniel leaned forward a bit. “What if her ex-husband comes back? What if he wants custody of the child?”
The smile on Adrian’s face slowly faded. He stared at Daniel for a few seconds, then looked away.
“I’ve thought about that,” he said calmly. “But Nathaniel doesn’t even know where she is. He abandoned her when she needed him most. Savannah doesn’t even want to hear his name again.”
Daniel sighed. “Yeah, I get it. But the world is small, Adrian. What if one day he finds out where she is? The law always listens to the father first, you know that.”
Adrian ran his fingers through his hair. “I won’t let that happen. If he ever tries to take her or the baby, I’ll fight with everything I have.”
Daniel looked at him, worried. “You’re serious about this, huh?”
“Very serious,” Adrian said in a firm tone. “Savannah means more to me than anything. I won’t let anyone hurt her again. Not even her ex-husband.”
Daniel nodded slowly. “That’s good to hear. But just be careful, Adrian. Love can make a man blind. Don’t forget to protect yourself too.”
Adrian smiled faintly. “You worry too much, Daniel. I know what I’m doing.”
Daniel laughed lightly. “That’s what every man says when he’s in love.”
They both laughed together. Then Daniel stood and went to the mini bar, pouring more juice into their cups.
“So, how is she now?” Daniel asked as he sat again.
“She’s fine,” Adrian said with a soft smile. “The pregnancy is already nine months now. The doctor says she might deliver anytime soon. She looks more beautiful every day. Sometimes, when I see her, I just feel lucky.”
Daniel grinned. “You’re gone, my friend. Completely gone. That woman has turned your head.”
Adrian laughed. “Maybe she has, but I don’t mind.”
Daniel nodded, then looked serious again. “Have you told anyone about her yet? Like your aunt or your business partners?”
Adrian shook his head. “No. Only Aunt Victoria knows, and she loves Savannah already. But I’ll make everything official after the baby comes. I want no stress for her now.”
Daniel nodded in agreement. “That’s good. She deserves peace.”
For a while, they just sat quietly, the air calm. Adrian’s mind drifted back to the memory of Savannah’s shy smile when she said yes. He could still see the tears in her eyes — tears of joy, not pain. It made him feel warm inside.
“She cried when I told her I’ll always be there for her,” Adrian said softly. “She couldn’t stop thanking me. But honestly, I’m the one who should be thankful. She gave me a reason to be happy again.”
Daniel looked at him, smiling. “You sound like a man who has finally found home.”
Adrian smiled back. “Maybe I have.”
After some time, Daniel changed the topic, and they talked about work and random things. But before Adrian left, Daniel placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Adrian,” he said quietly, “I’m really happy for you. But promise me one thing.”
“What’s that?”
“If one day her past comes back to her door, don’t let anger guide you. Handle it with your heart, not your pride.”
Adrian nodded slowly. “I promise.”
Daniel smiled. “Good. Now go home before your wife starts missing you already.”
Adrian laughed and stood up. “Yeah, I should go. She’s probably wondering where I am.”
They hugged like brothers, and Adrian walked out of the house with a lighter heart. The evening sun hit his face as he entered his car. He leaned on the steering for a moment, thinking about everything Daniel said.
He knew his friend was right — the past could show up anytime. But he also knew one thing: no matter what came, he was ready to protect Savannah and their baby with his life.
As he drove away, he whispered to himself, “No one is taking you away from me, Savannah. Never.”
The wind blew softly through the car window, carrying the sound of his quiet promise into the night.
