Chapter 66 Chapter 66
The morning sun came in softly through the white curtains. Savannah sat by the window, her hand resting on her round belly. She was already nine months gone, and her body felt heavier every day. Still, there was a kind of peace inside her. The house was quiet, and the smell of flowers from the garden filled the room.
Her baby kicked lightly, and she smiled. “You’ll be here soon, my little one,” she whispered. “Just a little longer, okay?”
Adrian came in quietly, holding a tray of food. He had made her breakfast himself — something he had been doing almost every day since her last hospital visit. “Good morning, sunshine,” he said softly, placing the tray on her lap.
Savannah laughed a little. “You’re treating me like I’m a baby too.”
He smiled. “That’s because you are both my babies.”
She blushed and shook her head. “You’re spoiling me too much, Adrian. I can walk to the kitchen.”
He sat beside her. “You’re not walking anywhere. You’re almost due, Savannah. Just sit and let me take care of you, okay?”
She smiled again. “You’ve been saying that for months now.”
“And I’ll keep saying it,” he said, watching her eat. “You’ve done enough already. Let me handle the rest.”
Savannah ate slowly, then looked at him. “You’ve done so much for me, Adrian. I don’t even know how to repay you.”
Adrian looked into her eyes. “You don’t have to repay me. Just stay healthy and keep smiling. That’s enough for me.”
Her heart melted at his words. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say. She looked down at her belly again, feeling her baby move.
After breakfast, Adrian stood up and stretched a little. “We’re going to see the doctor today,” he said.
Savannah frowned. “Again? Adrian, I’m fine. I just went last week.”
He gave her that calm but serious look. “You’re nine months pregnant, Savannah. I don’t want to take any risk. It’s better to be safe.”
She sighed. “Fine. But you’re worrying too much.”
“I’ll always worry about you,” he said softly, and that made her heart skip.
A few hours later, the driver brought the car around, and Adrian helped her into it. The maids waved as they left, all smiling and wishing her safe travels. Everyone in the house adored her; she was always gentle and polite with them.
At the hospital, the nurses already knew her. They smiled and greeted her warmly. “Welcome, ma’am. You’re glowing more every week!” one nurse said.
Savannah laughed shyly. “It must be the baby.”
The doctor came out smiling. “Ah, Mrs. Savannah, good to see you again. Let’s check on our baby.”
Savannah followed him into the examination room while Adrian waited outside. He walked up and down the hallway, too nervous to sit. He hated waiting.
Finally, the doctor came out smiling. “Everything looks perfect,” he said. “The baby is very healthy and ready to come anytime now.”
Adrian breathed out in relief. “Thank God.”
The doctor added, “She should rest more now. No stress, no long walks, just peace and comfort.”
Adrian nodded quickly. “She’ll get all that.”
Savannah came out smiling, holding her file. “See? I told you I’m fine.”
Adrian smiled back. “Yeah, but I’ll still keep checking.”
She laughed softly as they walked to the car. “You’ll make a very caring father someday.”
Adrian looked at her for a second, his smile fading slightly. “I already feel like one.”
Savannah turned away quickly, pretending not to hear. Her heart was beating fast again. She didn’t know why his words always hit her so deep.
When they got home, all the maids rushed out to greet them again. “Welcome home, ma’am! Welcome, sir!” they said, smiling widely.
Savannah smiled back. “Thank you all.”
Adrian helped her into the sitting room and asked, “Do you need anything? Water? Juice?”
She shook her head. “No, I just want to rest for a while.”
He nodded. “Alright. I’ll be in the study. Call me if you need anything.”
She smiled. “Okay.”
When he left, Savannah leaned back on the couch and closed her eyes. Her mind drifted back to how everything had changed in just a few months. She remembered when she first came to this house — scared, confused, and alone. She had never imagined she would find peace again.
Adrian had become more than just a helper. He was her strength. Her comfort. Sometimes she caught herself wondering what life would be like without him, and the thought scared her.
A few hours later, Adrian’s aunt came visiting. The woman was full of life, always talking and laughing. She walked straight into the living room with a big smile. “Oh, look at my beautiful Savannah! You’re glowing like the sun!”
Savannah laughed shyly. “You always make me laugh, ma.”
The aunt sat beside her and took her hand. “You’re almost there, my dear. I can’t wait to hold that baby. I already told Adrian he better make me godmother!”
Savannah blushed. “You’ll be the best one.”
The aunt laughed loudly. “I like you! You have manners and a good heart. Adrian finally made the right choice.”
Adrian came downstairs and smiled at the sight of them. “Auntie, what are you telling her?”
The aunt turned to him quickly. “You didn’t tell me you were married already! You just hid her away like a secret treasure!”
Adrian laughed. “She’s not my wife yet, Auntie.”
The woman frowned playfully. “Not yet? What are you waiting for? Look at her — she’s perfect!”
Savannah blushed again and looked away. Adrian just smiled, enjoying every word.
After a long while of chatting and laughter, the aunt left, but before going, she whispered something to Savannah. “Don’t worry, my dear. I can see love in his eyes. He’ll never hurt you.”
Savannah smiled weakly. “Thank you, ma.”
When the aunt left, the house became quiet again. Savannah went to her room and sat on the bed. She looked around — everything in the room was beautiful. The curtains, the flowers, the baby clothes neatly arranged, the soft music that played quietly.
Adrian had done all this for her. Every small thing reminded her of his care. She felt tears in her eyes but wiped them quickly.
That night, she lay awake for a long time, her hand on her belly. She could feel the baby moving gently, as if reminding her that soon everything would change.
She whispered softly, “You’ll meet him soon, my love. The man who kept us safe.”
From the hallway, Adrian passed by and peeked in. She had fallen asleep, her face calm. He smiled quietly, then walked away, whispering to himself, “Soon, both of you will be mine… and I’ll protect you with everything I have.”
