Chapter 57 Chapter 57

Chapter 57 Chapter 57

It had been two weeks since Savannah moved into Adrian’s mansion, and peace had slowly settled around her like soft air. Every morning, she woke up to the sound of birds outside the big glass window. The sun always came in gently, touching her face with light. Sometimes she would lie there for minutes, just staring at the high ceiling, still not believing she lived in such a beautiful place.

Her stomach was now big — eight months gone. The baby kicked almost every day, sometimes strong, sometimes soft. Each kick made her smile. It reminded her that no matter what she had gone through, something pure was growing inside her.

Adrian had changed too. He was no longer the quiet man who kept everything to himself. He was always around, watching her like she was made of glass. Every time she tried to do something by herself, he would appear from nowhere.

“Savannah, leave that. I’ll do it,” he would say, taking the mop or the dish from her hand.

She would smile, shaking her head. “You don’t have to do everything for me.”

But he only smiled back. “I want to.”

Some days, he cooked breakfast himself. It shocked her at first — a rich man in the kitchen wearing an apron. He said he wasn’t perfect at cooking, but the smell of his food always filled the house with warmth.

One morning, he came in with a tray. “Eat before you start thinking about walking around,” he said, placing it beside her.

Savannah laughed softly. “You sound like my mother.”

He smiled. “Then I must be doing something right.”

After eating, she usually sat outside in the garden. The flowers there were beautiful — roses, lilies, and some she didn’t even know the names of. She loved the breeze that touched her face and the gentle sound of water from the fountain nearby. Sometimes Adrian would join her with two cups of juice. They would sit together quietly, watching the clouds.

“Do you know what you’ll name the baby?” Adrian asked one afternoon.

Savannah placed her hand on her belly and smiled. “Not yet. Maybe when I see the face, I’ll know.”

He nodded, his eyes soft. “That’s a good answer.”

There was a small silence before Savannah spoke again. “You’ve done a lot for me, Adrian. I don’t even know how to thank you.”

He looked at her for a long time, then said, “You don’t have to thank me, Savannah. You deserve peace. That’s all.”

Her throat tightened. No one had ever told her that before. She blinked fast to hold back the tears.

That evening, Adrian came home carrying big bags. Savannah was sitting on the couch reading when she saw him struggling with the load.

“What’s all that?” she asked, standing up.

He grinned like a child. “Just something small.”

When he opened the bags, Savannah’s mouth dropped open. Baby clothes, blankets, toys, soft shoes — all neatly packed. There were even bottles, diapers, and a little bed that looked like a princess cradle.

She covered her mouth, tears instantly filling her eyes. “Adrian… why did you do all this?”

He scratched the back of his head, suddenly shy. “Because you’ll need them soon. I didn’t want you to worry.”

Savannah sat down, her hands shaking. She picked up a tiny blue shirt and pressed it to her chest. Her heart felt full. “No one has ever done something like this for me,” she whispered.

Adrian knelt beside her. “You’re not alone anymore, Savannah. You and the baby have me.”

That was too much for her heart. Tears rolled freely down her cheeks. “You don’t even know how much this means to me.”

He reached out, wiping her tears with his thumb. “Then don’t cry. The baby won’t like seeing Mommy cry.”

She laughed softly through her tears and placed his hand gently on her stomach. “He’s been kicking a lot today.”

Adrian froze for a second, then smiled when he felt the tiny movement under his palm. “Wow… strong little one,” he said with a laugh.

Savannah nodded, her eyes shining. “He always kicks when I’m happy.”

“Then I’ll make sure you’re always happy,” Adrian said quietly.

They sat there for a while, still and peaceful, both of them staring at her round belly. The house was silent except for the sound of their breathing and the soft hum of life between them.

Later that night, after Adrian went to his room, Savannah lay in bed thinking deeply. She couldn’t stop replaying everything that had happened in the past few weeks. From the night she fainted on the road to this moment in a warm, safe mansion, she knew her life had changed.

Adrian had done more than just help her — he had given her hope. But a small voice inside her still whispered questions. Why was he doing all this? Was it just pity? Or was there something deeper that neither of them wanted to say yet?

She turned to the side and rubbed her stomach slowly. “You’re lucky, my baby,” she said softly. “You already have someone who loves you.”

The baby moved again, and she smiled through her tears.

Outside her window, the night was calm. The wind blew gently, carrying the scent of flowers into her room. For the first time in a long while, Savannah felt safe — not just in her body, but in her heart.

And as she closed her eyes, one thought filled her mind — maybe this was where she truly belonged.
