Chapter 50 Chapter 50

Chapter 50 Chapter 50
The afternoon sun was hot, shining straight into the big sitting room. Cassandra sat on the long white couch, her legs crossed, sipping juice slowly. She looked relaxed, her hair neatly packed, and her nails freshly done.

Vanessa sat beside her, scrolling through her phone. Her face carried that usual pride, like the world belonged to her. They had been talking about random things — business, fashion, and of course, Nathaniel.

Cassandra smiled faintly. “You know, sometimes I wonder what men really want. Nathaniel has everything, but he still works like his life depends on it.”

Vanessa laughed lightly. “That’s how rich men are. They love power more than peace.”

Cassandra nodded. “True. But as long as he gives me everything I ask for, I don’t care what he does at work.”

They both laughed quietly, sipping their drinks.

A few maids walked in, carrying trays of fruit and another glass of cold juice. The new maid, a young girl who just started working that week, walked nervously toward them. Her hands shook a little as she tried to serve Vanessa.

But before she could drop the glass, her fingers slipped, and the juice poured straight on Vanessa’s white dress.

Vanessa jumped up with a loud gasp. “What the hell!” she screamed, her voice echoing through the room.

The poor maid quickly knelt down, shaking. “I’m… I’m sorry, ma’am. It was a mistake—”

Before she could finish, Vanessa’s hand flew across her face. Slap!

The sound was loud. The other maids froze in fear.

“How dare you!” Vanessa shouted, pointing at the girl. “Do you know how much this dress costs? You stupid thing!”

Tears rolled down the maid’s face. “Please, ma’am, I didn’t mean to. It was an accident.”

“Accident?” Vanessa hissed. “You think I care? Get out before I—”

Before she could say another word, Cassandra stood up too, her face full of anger. She picked up her glass and threw the remaining drink on the maid. Then she slapped her again. Paah!

The poor maid fell to the floor, crying.

“You spoiled my mood!” Cassandra shouted. “How can we hire people who don’t even know how to hold a cup? Nonsense!”

The other maids rushed forward to help the girl, but Cassandra glared at them. “Don’t touch her until I say so!”

Vanessa folded her arms, breathing heavily. “Useless thing. Look what she did to my dress. I can’t believe this.”

Cassandra sighed and sat back down, crossing her legs again. “People like that should be punished. I’ll tell Nathaniel to sack her immediately.”

Vanessa nodded angrily. “He better. These maids are becoming too careless.”

The poor maid knelt on the floor, her face red from the slap, still crying softly. “Please, ma’am, I need this job. I have no one at home. Please don’t send me away.”

Cassandra rolled her eyes. “That’s not my problem. You should’ve thought about that before pouring juice on people.”

Vanessa stood up and walked toward the stairs, still fuming. “I’m going to change my clothes. If I see her face again, she’s finished.”

The other maids quickly helped the crying girl to her feet and led her out of the room. Cassandra took another sip of her juice and shook her head slowly.

“People these days,” she muttered. “They can’t even do one simple thing right.”

After a while, Vanessa came back, wearing a new dress. Her mood had softened a bit, but her pride still showed.

Cassandra smirked. “You’ve calmed down?”

Vanessa sighed. “A little. I just hate being embarrassed like that.”

Cassandra leaned forward. “Forget about it. She’ll be gone before sunset. I’ll make sure of that.”

They both laughed again, like nothing had happened.

“By the way,” Vanessa said, sitting beside her, “have you heard from Nathaniel today?”

Cassandra shook her head. “No, he’s been quiet. Maybe he’s busy at work.”

Vanessa smiled slightly. “You’re lucky, Aunt. You have everything. Some women are out there struggling to survive, and here we are, living like queens.”

Cassandra chuckled proudly. “That’s why I don’t let anyone mess with me. I worked hard for this life, and I’ll do anything to keep it.”

Vanessa nodded. “Same here. I can’t go back to suffering.”

They clinked their glasses together and laughed again, their voices echoing through the house.

Outside, the sun was setting slowly. The sky turned orange, the air quiet. The poor maid sat behind the servant’s quarters, still crying, her cheek swollen.

Inside, Cassandra and Vanessa were back to chatting and laughing as if nothing had happened.

But life has a funny way of turning things around — and soon, both women would learn that not every day stays peaceful forever.
