Chapter 222 Chapter 222

Savannah didn’t sleep well that night. Every time she closed her eyes, Nathaniel’s words replayed in her head.
“I’m coming for my son.”

She kept turning on the bed, her heart racing. She didn’t want Adrian to notice, so she kept her eyes shut and pretended to be asleep. But her mind wouldn’t rest.

Early the next morning, Adrian woke up first. He looked at her and noticed the dark circles under her eyes. “Babe, did you sleep at all?” he asked softly.

Savannah forced a weak smile. “Yeah… a little,” she said, even though her voice didn’t sound convincing.

He frowned slightly. “You look pale. Are you sure you’re okay?”

She nodded quickly, turning away so he wouldn’t see her tears. “I’m fine, maybe just tired.”

Adrian leaned closer and kissed her forehead. “You’ve been tired a lot lately. I think you should rest more. Remember what the doctor said about stress.”

She nodded again, her throat tightening. She wanted to tell him everything — about the message, about Nathaniel — but fear held her back. She didn’t want any more trouble.

Later that day, Adrian went downstairs to take a call, and Savannah sat on the bed staring at her phone. The message from Nathaniel was still there. She read it again, and her hands started shaking. She quickly deleted it before Adrian came back.

When Adrian entered the room, she jumped a little, forcing a smile. “You scared me,” she said.

He laughed lightly. “Sorry, sweetheart. You seem on edge today. What’s going on?”

“Nothing,” she replied too fast.

He studied her face for a while. “Savannah, talk to me. Did something happen?”

She looked away, pretending to adjust the blanket. “I just don’t feel too good. Maybe the baby is making me moody.”

Adrian sighed and sat beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. “You don’t have to hide how you feel, okay? I’m here for you.”

She rested her head on his chest, trying to hold her tears back. “I know, Adrian. Thank you.”

But inside, her heart was breaking. She didn’t know how to protect her peace anymore. Nathaniel’s words felt like a shadow following her everywhere.

All through the day, she kept forgetting things — she almost burnt the soup, she misplaced her phone, and she couldn’t even finish her meal.

Adrian watched her quietly, his heart growing heavy.

That night, while they were watching a movie, Savannah kept staring blankly at the screen, lost in thought. Adrian reached for her hand and held it tight.

“Savannah,” he said softly, “if something is bothering you, please tell me.”

She blinked, coming back to reality. “What? Oh… no, I’m okay.”

He shook his head slowly. “No, you’re not. You’ve been distant all day. You’re hiding something.”

She smiled weakly and placed her hand over his. “You worry too much. I’m fine, I promise.”

But when he kissed her cheek, she felt guilty. Tears filled her eyes again, and she turned her face away so he wouldn’t see.

After Adrian went upstairs to check on Liam, Savannah broke down. She covered her mouth with her hands and cried silently.

She whispered to herself, “Please, God, don’t let this destroy us. Don’t let him find out yet.”

Meanwhile, Adrian stood by the stairs, watching her from a distance. He didn’t say a word. But deep down, he knew — something was terribly wrong.
