Chapter 198 Chapter 198
The ride home was quiet. No one spoke a word. Savannah sat beside Adrian, holding Liam close to her chest, her eyes looking out of the window the whole time. The car was filled with silence. Adrian kept glancing at her through the mirror, but she didn’t look back at him once.
Liam had fallen asleep on her lap, his small hand still holding onto her dress. Adrian drove slowly, his heart heavy. He wanted to talk to her, to ask what really happened back there, but he could see how broken she looked. Her face was pale, her eyes swollen from crying. It hurt him to see her like that.
When they got home, the driver opened the door for them. Savannah carefully carried Liam in her arms and walked straight inside without saying a word. Adrian followed quietly behind her.
The maids rushed to greet them, but Savannah only nodded and walked upstairs. She laid Liam on his bed, tucked him in, and kissed his forehead. Then she just sat on the edge of his bed, staring at him for a long time. Her thoughts were far away—filled with memories she wished she could erase.
Adrian walked into the room slowly and stood at the door. “Savannah…” he called softly. But she didn’t answer. She just kept looking at Liam, her eyes empty.
He walked closer and tried to touch her shoulder, but she stood up quickly and moved away. “Please, Adrian… not now,” she said in a shaky voice.
He felt a sharp pain in his chest. “I just want to understand,” he whispered. “Please talk to me. You’ve been quiet all night.”
Tears filled Savannah’s eyes again. “I don’t want to talk about it,” she said. “Please, I just need to be alone.”
Adrian didn’t push further. He looked at her for a while, his eyes filled with worry and love. Then he nodded slowly. “Alright,” he said softly. “But I’ll be here if you need me.”
He left the room quietly, closing the door behind him.
Savannah stood there for a few seconds before she broke down. She sat on the floor and covered her face, crying quietly so Liam wouldn’t wake up. The memories of Nathaniel’s words, his tears, and the pain he caused her replayed over and over in her mind.
She didn’t hate Adrian. She loved him. But her heart was heavy with the past she tried so hard to forget. Seeing Nathaniel again had reopened wounds she thought were gone.
Downstairs, Adrian sat on the couch, running his hand through his hair. He didn’t understand everything, but he knew one thing—Savannah was hurting deeply. And whoever caused her this pain, he swore in his heart to protect her from it again, no matter what it took.
Upstairs, Savannah finally whispered to herself, “Why now, Nathaniel… why did you come back?” Then she wiped her tears and looked at her sleeping son.
“For you, Liam,” she whispered, “I’ll be strong.”
The night went by slowly, filled with silence and hidden pain.
