Chapter 15 Chapter 15
Adrian sat in the waiting room, restless. He could not forget how Savannah had fainted on the road. Minutes later, the doctor came out.
“She is fine,” the doctor said. “She only fainted from stress. But she is also pregnant. She needs rest and care.”
Adrian’s eyes widened. Pregnant? He nodded slowly. “Can I see her?”
“She is resting. But keep it short,” the doctor replied.
When Adrian entered the room, Savannah lay weak on the bed. Her eyes opened slowly, and she looked confused. “Where am I?”
“You’re in the hospital,” Adrian said gently. “You fainted. I brought you here.”
Her lips trembled. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to trouble you.”
Adrian frowned. “Trouble? You almost collapsed in the street. Why are you working when you are pregnant?”
Savannah turned her face away, tears filling her eyes. She didn’t want to explain. “Please… I don’t want to talk about it.”
Adrian studied her quietly. He could see pain in her eyes but did not push. “Fine. But think of the baby. You need rest.”
Savannah touched her stomach slowly, silent tears rolling down. Nathaniel’s harsh words echoed in her mind, but she said nothing.
The doctor came back and said, “She must stay here for two days. No stress. Someone must look after her.”
“I’ll handle everything,” Adrian said quickly.
Savannah shook her head. “No, please, I can’t afford—”
“Enough,” Adrian cut in. “Let me take care of this.”
She bit her lip, ashamed, but stayed quiet.
As Adrian left the room, he muttered to himself, “What kind of man leaves his pregnant woman to suffer like this?”
Savannah lay awake, her hand on her stomach. “I’ll protect you,” she whispered to her baby.
But far away, in Nathaniel’s mansion, Cassandra laughed with Vanessa. “Savannah is gone. Soon the house and company will be ours.”
They clinked their glasses, but they had no idea Savannah’s story was only beginning.
