Chapter 109 Chapter 109
The next morning came quietly. The soft sound of rain tapped against the window. Savannah woke up before Adrian. She looked at his peaceful face and smiled. He looked like a man who finally found rest after so many storms.
She got up slowly, trying not to wake him. Liam was sleeping too, his tiny chest rising and falling softly. Savannah covered him properly with his little blanket and walked to the window.
The rain made everything outside look calm and fresh. She stood there for a while, thinking of how far she had come. From pain to peace. From tears to joy.
After a few minutes, she heard a soft voice behind her. “You’re awake already?”
Savannah turned. Adrian was sitting up, smiling. His hair looked messy, and he still looked sleepy.
“Yes,” she said softly. “The rain woke me up.”
Adrian got up and walked to her, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. “Good morning, my wife,” he whispered into her ear.
Savannah smiled, resting her hands over his. “Good morning.”
They stood like that for a moment, listening to the rain. Everything felt perfect.
After breakfast, Adrian said he needed to step out for a few hours. Savannah thought he was going to work, so she didn’t ask too many questions. “Alright,” she said. “Just be careful, the road is wet.”
“I will,” Adrian said, kissing her forehead before leaving.
Aunty Lisa came in not long after, as usual, full of energy. “Savannah! My beautiful daughter! Where’s my little prince?”
Savannah laughed. “He’s sleeping, Aunty.”
“Ah! This baby sleeps too much,” Aunty Lisa said, sitting down. “When I was your age, my baby could cry for the whole street to hear!”
Savannah smiled, shaking her head. “You must have been strong, Aunty.”
“Strong? My dear, that’s an understatement!” Aunty Lisa said proudly. “I was a lioness! Ask anyone!”
Savannah laughed so hard she nearly dropped the baby bottle she was holding. “Aunty, you’re funny.”
“I’m not funny o, I’m just real,” Aunty Lisa said. “Anyway, tell me, how’s married life treating you? You’re glowing more every day.”
Savannah smiled shyly. “It’s been peaceful, Aunty. Adrian takes care of us so well.”
Aunty Lisa nodded happily. “That man is a good one. I told him from day one, if he ever hurts you, I’ll pack my load and come live here just to disturb him.”
Savannah laughed again. “He won’t, Aunty. He’s too gentle for that.”
“Hmm, gentle men are the most dangerous ones,” Aunty Lisa said jokingly. “But I trust your own. He loves you too much to even shout.”
They talked for a long time, laughing, sharing stories. Later, Savannah went upstairs to check on Liam. The baby had just woken up and was smiling, his tiny hands moving in the air.
“Good morning, my sunshine,” she said softly, picking him up. “Did you sleep well?”
Liam giggled and held onto her finger. Savannah’s heart melted. “You look so much like your daddy,” she said with a small smile.
She took him downstairs, and the maids all smiled when they saw the baby. “Good morning, Madam. Good morning, baby,” they greeted.
Savannah nodded warmly. “Good morning, everyone.”
She sat on the couch and played with Liam for a while. The sound of his laughter filled the room. It was the kind of sound that could brighten anyone’s day.
Hours passed, and Savannah began to wonder why Adrian hadn’t come back yet. She thought maybe he had a lot to do at work.
By evening, when she was feeding Liam, she suddenly heard car horns at the gate. The maids ran to open the door, and soon, Adrian walked in — but not empty-handed.
He was carrying shopping bags in both hands, and two maids were helping him carry more.
Savannah blinked. “Adrian, what’s all this?”
Adrian smiled. “Just a small surprise.”
He dropped the bags on the couch. “I was thinking about you and Liam today, and I wanted to get a few things.”
Savannah opened one of the bags and gasped softly. There were new dresses for her — soft and beautiful. There were also new baby clothes, tiny shoes, toys, and even a small gold bracelet with Liam’s name on it.
She covered her mouth, tears filling her eyes. “Adrian… this is too much.”
Adrian walked closer and wiped her tears gently. “Nothing is too much for the people I love.”
She hugged him tightly, her tears falling on his shirt. “You’ve done so much already. I don’t even know how to thank you.”
“By being happy,” Adrian said softly. “That’s all I want.”
Aunty Lisa came down the stairs just then and saw everything. “Ah! What is happening here? Gifts everywhere! Did I miss something?”
Savannah laughed through her tears. “Adrian went shopping for us.”
Aunty Lisa clapped her hands. “My son-in-law! You are the best! If you continue like this, your wife will love you till heaven!”
Adrian smiled. “That’s the plan, Aunty.”
They all laughed together. The room felt full of joy and warmth.
Later that night, after everyone had gone to bed, Savannah sat quietly beside Liam’s crib. The baby was asleep, his small hand resting near his cheek.
She looked at him, then at Adrian, who was already lying on the bed.
Her heart whispered, This is home.
She stood up and walked to the bed, lying beside Adrian. He turned and held her close without saying a word.
The rain outside had stopped. The air was cool and peaceful.
And inside that room, everything felt right.
Savannah closed her eyes and smiled. “Thank you, God,” she whispered. “For giving me this peace.”
