Chapter 82 Chapter 82

Chapter 82 Chapter 82
Selena

“I’m sorry, Madam. We’ll leave now.” I didn't wait to watch her response, nor did I wait for Theodore to protest or watch his scornful face.

I held his hands and pulled his mighty self out of the alley to the bustling place, before he pulled out a gun, which I was almost sure would be with him.

Or he might signal his boys to shoot her dead. He was capable.

“You can stop pulling.” He spoke behind me, and I stopped, turning to him with a glare. But the once anger in his eyes has turned into annoyance.

That wasn’t enough for me to stop from voicing out and lecturing him. “How could you speak to an elderly person like that? Weren’t you taught to respect them? I’m sure your parents must have done that.” I scolded, not bothering to cover my annoyance.

“But then again, I bet your parents won’t dare to scold you, most mafia’s pare…..won..”

Yes, I stopped. Realization of what I just said hitting. Again, I have spoken without thinking.

“I didn’t mean it that way,” I pressed my lips together. But to my surprise, he didn't look angered; instead, his eyes took me in, then he opened his mouth. “I never grew up with my parents.”

“Oh,”

That was the only response my head could come up with.

“Why? Do you mind telling me?” Parents don’t stay with their kids for complicated issues, so what could be his?

“Why don’t you stick around, then maybe I’ll tell you.” His gaze held so much seriousness as he stared at me, darkness lacing around it.

I pushed down the lump in my throat and started walking. I could feel him walking after me. “Seeing how you rushed down here, something must be wrong to make you look this way.”

Silence stretched between us.

“How do I look?”

I stopped again, turning back to him. And I couldn’t help but purse my lips as his green eyes stared at me.

“Like someone who is trying not to bolt out. You are containing something.”

His eyes twitched immediately, confirming my words.

What was he trying to hide? He didn’t look like he was going to say it or indulge me.

“What were you doing with Svetlana?” He asked instead, avoiding my question.

I turned back and we started walking again. I sighed. Why was I expecting him to tell me what might be wrong? We weren’t so close.

“Trying different snacks, but too bad, you made her leave.” I turned to him, wrinkling my nose. “But I’ll introduce you to some of the food here,”

I don’t wait for him to protest, before walking to the stall of  Pirozhki. I’m sure he has never had it, after all, he was born into wealth.

“This is Pirozhki, Svetlana said it’s one of the oldest snacks “ I pointed it to him, stretching my legs to go close to his mouth. But he only looked at me, and my struggle.

I wished he would smile sometimes. At least he looks friendly and cute when he does. I put down my hand holding the snack.

“I have had it before,”

My eyes widened. “Really?”

He nodded. His eyes on me, without a glance at the snack.

He had, and I don’t know why that makes me happy. Maybe because it makes him look more human.

“Yes, when I was younger with my brother.”

“Brother?” I never knew he had a brother. “Where is he? How come I have never heard of him? Is he younger?” I asked at the same time.

Was he also in the business or was he just a normal person?

“He lives outside the chaos of the world.” That darkness returned to his eyes.

“Oh, that’s good then.” It was better not to ask so many questions. He didn’t look like he wanted to be asked.

We kept moving around and surprisingly, he seemed to know about all the snacks, but he didn't taste any.

And in a few stalls, he had stopped me from eating.

He was acting weird, but there was something that ignited fire in my bones. It was the way he pulled me toward him when I was about to be bumped into something, or the way he looked when I caught him staring.

All my attempts to make him smile, somehow only make his brows crease more. So I let him be.

Now we are at the beginning of the stalls.

“This was so fun.” I raised my hands, smiling at the busy place. Theodore stood before me, and in his hands held the little things I had bought.

Well, he initiated taking it for me, though I refused at first.

I yawned at the tiredness calling to my soul.

“Tomorrow, you’ll follow me for a business dinner.” I turned to him.

“ All you have to do is sit obediently by my side.”

“Why?” I asked before I could stop myself.

“They are ruthless people. One who won’t hesitate to bite anything in sight.”  His eyes darkened.

If he could speak that way, that means it was truly dangerous. But who could be as dangerous as him?

“I’ll sit quietly by your side then.” I flashed him a smile. Not like I want to be anyone's fresh fish to cast a net on.

The sky was really dark now, but thanks to all the city lights, it was bright.

“And here,”

I looked up at him again. He was holding a pen.

“Oh, a pen.” I moved to take it from him, only for him to pull back.

“It isn’t just a pen, it can serve as anything. There are little bullets inside laced with poisons. Press the red to fire the bullets, and the green if you want a taser. Otherwise, it’s just a knife.” He pressed the head of it and a sharp surface pointed out.

“Wow,” I reached for it, his eyes took me in before placing it gently in my hand.

My eyes zero in on the details of the pen. It had a simple design. Gold strikes circle the head of it. And I knew it was real gold.

“You should hold it carefully, I don’t want you hurting yourself.” His brows tightened and I wondered what he was thinking of.

There was no doubt that Theodore cares about my well-being. But why? Why does he care so much about me?

‘Maybe that’s how he is, after all, you aren’t the only woman in his life. There is Hannah.
