Chapter 210 Chapter 210

Chapter 210 Chapter 210

Selena

“Woww,” I exclaimed beside Theo as we stepped inside the amusement park.

It was magnificent.

It stretched out in a riot of color. Red and white striped tents, spinning rides painted in glossy primary colors, and flags snapping in a warm breeze that carried the smell of fresh popcorn and sugared almonds.

There was something else…. fried dough and cotton candy.

My eyes widened at my heightened smell. It was for the first time.  Something light fluttered in my chest, and I wondered if this was part of being pregnant.

The ability to smell and crave things that aren’t even in sight.

“Do you like it here?”

I snapped out of whatever fantasy I was in as I heard Theo's voice. I had completely forgotten he was beside me.

“Yes, this is lovely. What made you pick here?” I asked, suddenly curious. When he had said he was taking me somewhere, I didn’t expect to be taken here.

Looking at Theo, he suddenly looked proud, and I couldn’t help but smile.

“I saw it while searching the media. They said it helps boost one’s mood.” He suddenly turned serious. “It’s very important that you are always happy, Selena.”

I stared at his eyes, something suddenly heavy in my throat. I bit hard on my lips not to let my emotions get out.

“Thank you.” That was all I could say, and again, Theo closed the gap between us and pecked my forehead.

“Wowww, Mister just kissed her.” A child yelled, snapping us out of our tiny cocoon.

“Mister, Mrs, are you married?” He continued to yell, and then he ran off immediately, but that wasn’t all because more children’s laughter cut through the air, all following him.

Theo held me close as I stared at the kids in amusement.

“This isn’t a good place for you. It’s too loud and dangerous.” Theo started to complain, but I held his hands in mine.

“It’s too early for you to start regretting. This’s the essence of an amusement park. You get happiness from others, especially the kids.”Theo didn’t seem to understand my words.

“Have you been to this place before?” I asked him, and I realized too late that I shouldn’t have.

“Oh, you don’t have to—”

“I want to.” He tapped my hand as if to say it was fine. “When I was three, father brought Miguel and me here…..But I can’t remember much about it.”

“I’m glad.” I smiled warmly at him. “ I have been here a couple of times with Josh and Halley. I usually take him  here when he does something really good.” I marveled at the memory. “Let’s go, I will show you around.”

As we moved deeper, the sounds of people talking and screaming mixed with the distant sounds of the roller coaster climbing its first hill as cheerful and slightly off-key music drifted from the carousel.

Theo walked beside me, closer than usual,  his hand hovering near the small of my back, his presence a solid wall.

He wore a black tailored suit, a quiet authority that somehow didn’t clash with the bright, atmosphere around us, maybe it did as he was dressed too serious.

He could have chosen to wear something fitting but instead he decided to look like a bodyguard, only that he looked too handsome to be one.

Dressed this way, I wondered if anyone could recognize him. But then, he never actually appeared in the media.

I should think about myself meeting someone who watched the live video of me being arrested.

“What are you thinking of Selena? Your mind is wandering.”

I snapped out of my thoughts again. “Is it?” Why was it so easy for me to be in a daze now?

“Yes.” He said, his hand rubbing my back gently as we walked. “If you don’t like this place, we could go to another place. I wrote some places down.”

“I do. I love it here.” I needed to stop dazing out if not Theo was going to make us leave sooner.

We kept walking around, watching everyone and then my eyes stopped at a cotton candy stall.

It had been so long since I had it.

“Do you want it?” Theo asked beside me, and I sighed.

“I probably shouldn’t want it. It might not be good for the baby.” I sighed, but I could only hope Theo would consider it.

“I think you can have it.”

I looked up at him, surprised he had said that.

For someone who was too careful with me, it was surprising.

“We can just visit the hospital immediately after leaving here. But I doubt it would cause an issue. Or I could call the medical team here to be on standby. I should do that.” He started to reach for his phone, and I laughed.

Theo stopped to look at me, his face confused.

I held his hand which was going to his pocket.

“You don’t have to. I think I should be fine with eating a little.”

He stared at me and then nodded. We moved to the stall and I picked a pink one. I watched in excitement as a big one was made, and handed to me. Theo paid for it.

“Wow.”

“You’re going to get sticky,” Theo warned, but there was no real complaint in his voice, and I made no heed to him as I started eating it.

“Wow, it’s sweet.” I praised, lifting it for Theo to bite, but he only stared at me, his eyes darkened for a second, and before I knew it, Theo moved down and took my lips in his, kissing and licking my lips off.

I blinked, my face red when he released me. He looked so satisfied seeing me in a mess.

“Hmm.. The next customer is waiting.” The owner of the stall said and my face flushed up more. People were looking.

“Don’t be shy,” Theo said, and I could see his lips curl up in a smile.

Was he teasing me now?

We kept moving around different stalls, but I didn’t want to get anything. With the cotton candy in my stomach, I suddenly felt too heavy.

“Let’s go to the Ferris Wheel,” I said, excitement dancing at my fingertips.

Theo suddenly stopped. “No, you can’t.”

My brows furrowed. “Why?” I asked, my voice lowered, and I didn’t know why I was suddenly feeling hurt.

“You are going to hurt yourself.” He declared, and my frown deepened. What does that even mean?

“No I won’t. I have been there before, numerous times.” I defended.

“It’s different now. You are vulnerable and can get hurt easily. You just left the hospital, You aren’t fully recovered, Selena.”

I rolled my eyes, “It has been two weeks, I’m fine now.”

“You rolled your eyes.”

“I didn’t.” I shook my head, denying.

Theo stared at me intensely….

“Fine, I did. You won’t let me go on a Ferris wheel when this’s the reason why we can—“

“Qué hermosa,” Theo said, almost in a whisper.

“What did you say?” I asked, but he started walking away slowly, enough for me to catch up with him.
