Chapter 18 Chapter 18

Chapter 18 Chapter 18
Theodore

“The containers were transferred here last night after the encounter with the opposite party. Though I’m still shocked at how they got to know about the goods, I’m glad Boss has doubled our men. Perhaps you saw it coming, boss?” Blaze, now disguised as a fisherman, was in charge of the goods this time.

Around us were my other men, all dressed like fishermen as they moved around, minding their business.

“We happened to be aware. You should keep a closer eye till all the goods are distributed. Though there is no threat, the container is at too much risk.” Ethan cautioned him, and he nodded. His eyes shifted to me.

I turned to him, locking gaze. And he panicked.

My lips curled into a smirk.

It was normal to be stared at by my workers. I have wanted to know what was going through their head.

What makes them panicky after?

We reached the container, and he opened it wide. It was as expected. Three billion worth of drugs were moved inside.

“Let me turn on the lights.”

The sound of the door closing echoed, and the lights were turned on, Blaze moved forward, taking off the wraps from the goods.

I moved sideways to the table at my side, took out the knife, and moved towards the cartons.

Ethan stayed behind me to give me access.

Tearing through the carton, dark cubes of chocolate filled inside, each wrapped in a transparent plastic.

I took out the plastic, and brought out a piece, then placed it on my nose, smelling it.

“Wow, boss. They have changed the packaging this time. It can't be more enticing.” Blaze rubbed his hands together, his eyes on the drug, his gaze needing.

“Did you ask them to change the look? This may be good, but kids are prone to this,” Ethan commented.

Last time, it was in the form of cigarettes.

“Why would kids go close to this? And if they do. The parents are eligible, not me.” I dropped the knife, and it sounded cut through as it landed on the floor.

“Uncle is being watched by the Russian president. That’s enough for him to change his approach.” I turned to look at Blaze, throwing the piece to him. His eyes beamed.

“At first glance, it looks like chocolate, a smell of it, but the moment it met with wine, it turned to it form.

How Impressive.” I turned fully to Blaze.

“Make the bid higher.”

Ethan's eyes widened, but he said nothing, only nodding, but I knew it wouldn't last long.

“What if they lay a complaint?” Ethan asked immediately we stepped out, leaving Blaze behind.

He knew what to do.

“Will they?” I placed my hands inside my pockets. “The boxing ring, and club B should take care of it, they are our largest consumers.”

“Hm.”

We reached the car and entered.

“Kane said you met with Selena, why?”

I looked at him and rolled my eyes. “Are you keeping a check on me? And,” I turned to the rearview mirror to look at Kane.

“Your job is to drive silently.”

His eyes weaved as he met mine in the mirror. He bowed his head, looking ahead on the road.

“I forced him to do it.”

“Then, he is more useless.”

Ethan sighed at my side.”There is something about Selena that is unclear. Data of her growing aren't aligning. While searching it shows she only grew up with her brother, a useless father, but there is no information on her mother. The Raven can't find anything on her.”

I took in the information and exhaled.

“What more is there for you to know? A child abandoned by both parents, left to care for a younger brother. What else do you want to know?” I turned to him.

It isn't that I doubted Ethan. His worries could be true,

But Ethan was guarded against Selena.

“You have to be careful. I know what I’m saying, so listen to me on this.

That’s it. Once again, he was acting like a barricade. An older brother.

I turned to the window. “Quit acting that way. I’m your boss, not the other way around.” I shut my eyes, ruling him out.

An image played on my senses.

“Please,”

Glazing eyes pleading for help, eyes weaving.

Selena.

My hands clenched into a fist. She had gone there alone.

It was coincidental, meeting her there in the old man’s house.

I never intended, but it seemed fate was on my side to see her. But I had meant her in a disturbing sight. A knee cut, blood smeared on it.

How dare he lay his hands on what was mine?

My knuckles burn.

“Threatening shouldn't be the best option. He only wants assurance that the building is handed to the right person.”

Selena’s voice rang out.

I sighed.

“Take the building project from Valeria. Handle it yourself and make it fast. And…. offer more compensation.”

Ethan’s gaze burned at my side.

“Why? Because she got hurt?”

“No. Because it won’t be easy getting the building. The building has to be in good care, and our purpose is far from that, so, compensate him more. .”

Why was there a sudden need to follow Selena’s words?

Why do those helpless eyes cling to my head? Why does she still plead even after he hurt her?

So innocent, untainted by this bloody world—my world.

Selena shouldn't be in my company. Shouldn't be close to me. But fate has decided from the moment at the club.

And it has brought her to me, under my mother’s hands.

Her first task has ended in jeopardy, knowing mother, she won’t let it pass. I wondered if Selena had already been cautioned by her.

“Place one of our men in Mother’s mansion. If possible, get closer to her.”

“I’ll try. It's hard breaking into the mansion.” His metal lighter flicked open, and the smell of cigarettes filled the car.

“Now she should be mad at not having the drugs. I wonder how your dear Selena would handle it.”

Mother may be mad, but she won’t harm Selena.

She needs her.

Ethan’s phone rang, and he picked up.

I sighed. I wonder if she had gotten her leg treated.

“Hmm. I’ll see to it.” The car grew silent. “Noah Theodore wants to meet with you.”

I opened my eyes, my brows drew together. “Who is that?”

“Lucas Theodore’s son. He wants to talk about Selena.”
