Chapter 11 Chapter 11
Selena
I had expected something uncontrollable to happen at work today, but surprisingly, it was pretty calm. Well, except for everyone gazing at my clothes, making me feel out of place.
How could they even tell its quality?
And then going to his office.
I packed in front of my apartment. The building light shines brightly. Taking my bag, and the documents that I needed to work on, I stepped out.
“I need to immerse myself in a hot bath.” I sighed to myself, closing the car door.
The day was tiring. After leaving his office, I was tasked with researching the buildings and also the old man. He indeed had a son, who was now a target, thanks to T&M’s shamelessness.
The sound of my phone ringing jolted me out of my thoughts and I opened my bag to take it.
A smile curled on my lips seeing the name on the screen.
I swiped the screen, moving the phone far from my ears.
“Selena! Why didn't you tell me you quit, and why are you working at T&M?” Sofiya yelled as always. I shook my head entering the elevator.
“Dear Sofiya went on a trip with her boyfriend. How could I dare to bother you?”
“A text message won’t have been bad sweetheart. Ivan considers you a friend so trust he won’t be mad. Not like it matters if he is,”
I laughed softly at that. “I’m sorry for not reaching out to you. I mean, it wasn't just that.” I took a deep breath, steadying my heart not to well up at the memories. Memories of going to Noah’s house and finding out.
I shook my head. It was the past. “I was too occupied. You know I always talk to you about Mr Clifford, and his perverted questions, this time he grew bold so I had to leave.” I shrugged.
“And as if the day couldn't be messier, I found Noah with a girl in his room.”
“What?” She yelled, then the line grew silent.
I pursed my lips, rubbing my eyes to stop the tears from spilling, my heart clenching hard threatening to break again.
“I’m so sorry love. Do you want me to take the earliest flight tomorrow to be with you?”
I shook my head, and a tear rolled down my cheek. I sniffed, wiping it off with a smile. “You are really in for my murder by Ivan, aren't you?” I laughed.
“Come on, this’s serious. He would understand. I’m so sorry sweetheart. Screw Noah and his sweet boy pretense. I honestly thought he was the one. Men are trash sweetheart, screw them and their fake pretences.”
I nodded, and the elevator opened to my floor. But what stood ahead, made me freeze. I closed my eyes, wanting the view to vanish, but it won’t.
I opened my eyes a third time to see Noah standing in front of my door, and now he was looking at me.
“Hey sweetheart, what’s wrong? You aren't saying anything.”
Sofiya’s voice reached my ears, but my eyes remained unfazed in his.
“Yes, I’m fine. Let's speak later.” I murmured.
“You are sure you are fine, you suddenly don't sound good, you can talk to me right?”
“I can. So let's speak a little later.” Though reluctant she ended the call.
Noah was handsome as always, his brown hair parted in the middle. His perfect face that I had always looked at. I swallowed, then walked forward to my room, ignoring him.
“Selena.”
I stopped just a step after passing him. His voice still has so much effect on me just like always. The softness it always carries. That softness that had clouded me from recognising him of his cheat.
“Come on, Selena.” His hands moved to touch me.
“Don't.” I turned to him. Hoping I wasn't falling apart, but it seemed my tears had taken a different path. I sniffed, welling everything back.
“I know what I did was wrong, and I’m sorry for that. I have realised my mistake, so come on Selena. Let's get back together. Being home every day knowing you are pissed at me isn't settling for me, so please.”
He held my arm, and I should push him away, but it was just like before, comforting, like nothing ever happened.
But it was funny.
“You speak like all you did was ignore my call or something so light.” My gaze locked with his eyes. “You cheated, Noah. You picked someone else over me without telling me. You broke your promise to me.”
Lord, it was taking so much not to burst into tears at the heaviness in my heart.
I pulled away from his hold. “You didn't break up with me. You disrespected me, broke our promise and it wasn't just once, to be ruled a mistake. You have been doing it for years,” I raised my hands, then curled my lips in a fake smile.
“I’m tired. I just resumed work today and have a ton of work to do, so I need to head inside.” I moved past him.
“And you should go. Josh will be coming soon, I don't want him to see you. And if you ever see him outside, you don't have to pretend to be nice.” Taking the door card, I swiped it open.
“Come on, Selena. You can't just dismiss all my ways as pretentious now. You know I wasn't.”
I rolled my eyes and entered inside. But Noah wasn't done. He held the door.
“Think about it Selena. All these years, I was there for you. I did everything for you. I loved you, Selena. No, I still do. So, think about it!” He suddenly yelled, and I flinched, my heart thundering at his action.
“Tell me what man has been able to sit all this while with how you act whenever I ask for you? Tell me. You act scared. I have needs too.”
My heart dropped.
“But, but we could do something, find a way around it, we always do,” I spoke softly, my voice barely a whisper.
“No. We can't. Not always. Not with the fucking slow blow jobs you had given me. None of that is the real deal. Nothing can compare to it.”
Yes. Nothing could compare to it. I nodded, letting the tears fall now.
“You know I can't give you that yet, so I…” I sniffed.
“Yes, I do,” He took a step forward.
“Don't. Don't come closer.” I closed my eyes. Feeling a draining headache.
“Believe me, Selena. I just couldn't help it and I..I.”
I laughed. Noah was audacious. How did I fail to know that?
“I don't want to speak to you right now. I’m really tired so please go home.”
I pulled the door, wanting to close it.
“Let me help you. I’ll make dinner for you, and maybe help you with a message? You always love that.” His voice grew inches softer, causing me to look at him.
I have always loved his hands on me. But it was different now, and I shouldn't indulge–
But Noah was already making his way inside, a smile on his face. “Come on now, don’t think about it. I’ll leave after, I promise. I’ll leave after helping you. ”
I shouldn't indulge him, but he was already deep inside my house.
It was just for today, it was just food and a massage. I could treat that as an apology right?
