Chapter 220 Calyx
Chapter 220 Calyx
I hand our son to Markus. He takes Anthony into his arms. Amalie was right, our little one looks like he will be an Anthony.
“Why were you out of the pack?” Markus hisses at me as he settles down in the seat. “Why the hell did you leave!”
“Devin showed up in Colorado,” I sigh.
Zviad and I have been kicking ourselves since we left. We had a sinking feeling that something was going to happen. A rogue attack and Amalie went into labor, that’s what happened.
“I did not know she would go into labor or there would be a rogue attack,” I try to defend.
“Rogue attack?” Markus growls dangerously.
Anthony starts to fuss at the tone.
“Shh, it’s alright,” Markus says softly. “Everything is alright, now.”
“After you hung up, the alarm went off,” I say. “They got her to the safe room until everything was dealt with.”
“You honestly think she waited in the safe room?” Markus scoffs. He pauses and looks down at Anthony.
Shit, he’s right. Amalie would not have simply hidden away.
‘I need you to tell me that Amalie went to the safe room,’ I practically plead to Sam through the mind link.
‘She did not,’ Sam tells me carefully.
“Hello,” Gretchen says as she comes in with a soft knock. “I’m here to get the little one fed.”
“I’ll be right back,” I growl as I storm past her and from the infirmary.
My uncles, the ranked members, and Rose are in our office.
“Papa!” Rose squeals as she runs to me. “Is mommy okay? I made pictures!”
“She is resting now with Markus and your baby brother,” I tell her as I pick her up. I give her a hug. “Petal, will you go get a snack from Michelle?”
“I know where!” she shouts as I set her on the ground. Rose bolts from the office.
“Please explain to me why my very pregnant mate did not get to the safe room?” I growl dangerously.
Kayla and Nick look at each other nervously. Sara, Sam, and Uncle William look back and forth at each other.
“We tried,” Uncle William sighs, breaking the silence. “Don’t get mad and say, well we did not try hard enough.” He cuts in as I open my mouth to say just that.
“Ama tapped into the goddess’s power and refused to leave,” Sara explains. “She ordered them to let her stay.”
“You could have-” I start before I stop. What could I say, she could have dragged her out of there.
“Ama channeled the goddess to go confront the rogues. Those rogues being her sister and Devin,” Sam says.
“What happened?” I ask, trying to calm the rage of emotions inside of me.
“She was going into labor. We were trying to get her to the infirmary, and they attacked. Ama became defiant, refusing to go. She threatened to go find the rogues and order them away. Instead, they found us. Melissa and Devin tried to confront her. Ama dealt with Melissa and ordered Devin to the basement to await your verdict,” Uncle William tells me.
“Devin attacked?” I ask, cold overtaking me. Damn it, it was a trap. They played us.
“He and Melissa were working together,” Sam confirmed.
“Where is she?” I growl. Melissa was shown mercy and this is how she thanks Amalie?
I catch the looks being thrown around the room.
“Um, you don’t have to worry about her,” Sara says as she shares a glance with her mate.
“I will worry about her if I want to,” I growl as I start to pace. “Where is the pathetic wolf who attacked my mate?”
“She’s dead,” Uncle Michael says simply.
Those two words make me stop. Melissa is dead. “Who killed her?” I ask carefully.
“She did it to herself. Ama ordered her to kill herself,” Uncle William tells me.
Amalie made her sister take her own life. Part of me is glad that Melissa is dead and she is no longer a problem. A bigger part of me is worried about how Amalie was able to order Melissa to kill herself. We will have to address this with Luna Rebekah.
“And Devin is still in the basement?” I ask.
“Um, yes he is. Barely alive, but he’s there,” James answers.
I take a breath before I ask, “What happened to him?” If Amalie made her own sister kill herself, what did she do to the bastard that hurt our daughter.
“Ama made him go to the basement and wrap a silver chain around his neck,” Sam tells me.
Silver, Amalie made Devin wrap a silver chain around his neck. She made him burn his neck.
‘She sought justice,’ Zviad growls.
‘She never should have used silver,’ I try to argue.
Zviad doesn’t say anything.
‘I can’t fault her for using silver,’ I sigh in defeat.
‘If she feels guilty, we help her through her guilt,’ Zviad says simply.
“So, side note, the pack is excited to meet your son,” James says, interrupting Zviad and I’s conversation.
“Have you said anything?” I ask.
“Your announcement,” Uncle Michael says with a smile, “but the pack does know you have a healthy boy.”
“When can I see my godson again?” Vickie shouts as she bursts into my office.
“Where have you been?” I ask. I had been expecting Vickie to be glued to Amalie’s side. But she left earlier without a fuss.
“I went to get this,” Vickie says as she pulls out the black wolf with white paws and snout. “It was in the nursery back at your house. I figured it would be nice to have.”
It was the stuffed animal that we had made for our son. The fur on it feels real and soft to the touch, perfect for little ones to cuddle.
‘Should have one made for Rose,’ Zviad pipes up.
‘Not a bad idea. We’ll have one made and give it to her at Christmas,’ I tell him.
“Kim is making a cake to celebrate,” Kira says.
“Okay,” I start, “we will announce it tomorrow morning.”
“Give Ama the night to rest and bond with your son,” Uncle Michael says with a nod.
