Chapter 215 Amalie
Chapter 215 Amalie
“How is the hunt going?” I ask as lounge against the headboard. I have the phone extended so I can video chat with my missing mate.
“It was a dead end,” Mark sighs in defeat. “I’ve found nothing to support that the pack that was rumored to have been helping Devin, even met him. I talked with the Alpha and a few of the surrounding Alphas about Devin. No one knows who he is.”
“When are you coming home then?” I ask as I try to get comfortable.
“Hopefully tomorrow,” he says. “The council is sending a representative and I’m supposed to meet with them first.” Mark gives me a look that states he would rather deal with anyone else.
“You have fun with that,” I laugh.
“So, what has you up this early?” Mark yawns.
“Your son is being very active today and decided to wake me up first thing in the morning,” I grumble as I rub my belly, trying to soothe our pup. “You know we still haven’t decided on a name.”
“We will when Markus gets home,” Cal yawns from beside me. He turns over and cracks open an eye at me.
I let out a chuckle at how cute he looks. I run my fingers through his hair. Cal closes his eye and drifts off.
“I’ll be home tomorrow at the latest,” Mark says with certainty.
“I love you,” I say to Mark over the phone. I know I pushed for Mark to go, but I still miss him.
“I love you too,” Mark replies.
I end the call and settle back down. Maybe I can get a few hours of sleep before I am dragged to the pack house. I finally start to get comfortable when Cal’s phone rings.
“Whatever happened, someone had better be dying,” Cal growls into his phone.
I hear Alpha Jonathon through the phone state, “No, but Devin showed up here and just left.”
“What?” Cal demands, sitting up.
“Devin showed up and asked for a meeting with my grandfather. When I informed him, I was the Alpha and my grandfather had stepped down, he became agitated,” the other Alpha explains.
“Did he say what he wants?” I ask loud enough for Alpha Jonathon to hear.
“He asked for an audience with grandfather. When I told him that I handle pack negotiations, he left,” Jonathon explains. “I have a warrior trailing him.”
“Keep me updated,” Cal orders as he ends the call.
“You have to go,” I tell Cal.
“No,” Cal says sharply, trying to end the discussion.
“Cal, this is solid proof that Devin is in Colorado,” I point out.
“I’m not leaving you alone,” he growls at me.
“I’m not alone. I have my dads and the ranked members here,” I try to argue.
“Amalie, no,” Cal says sharply. “For all we know, this could be a trap.”
“Then we spring the trap and at least we get closer to finding Devin,” I counter.
“Your safety is not going to be put in jeopardy because you want to spring said trap,” Cal growls.
I sit up and attempt to sit cross legged. It does not work like I want it to. I huff in annoyance and sit to face Cal. “Take me with you then,” I say.
“Amalie, I am not taking you anywhere. You are staying here until after you give birth,” Cal growls fiercely.
“Then you have to go,” I point out.
“I will send James and Kira to investigate,” he dismisses me.
“You know, as much as you love James, that you want to be the one hunting down Devin,” I point out. Alpha pride would demand that Cal be the one hunting down the threat to my safety, no one else.
“I’m not leaving,” Cal growls at me.
“Cal,” I say, trying to be patient.
“Little one,” Zviad tries.
“You have to go. I know you don’t want to go, but you have to,” I tell him.
“You don’t understand what it feels like to have to leave,” he growls at me.
“You’re right, we don’t. But you have to understand the fear we feel knowing that the wolf who threatened our pup’s safety is still out there,” Beren argues as she pushes forward.
“We should have killed him,” Zviad growls.
“Probably, but you didn’t,” I say as I push Beren back.
“Love, please don’t make us go,” Cal pleads.
“You have to,” I tell him.
“Fine but if I go, you are staying at the pack house until Markus or I get home,” he says sharply.
“I can do that,” I agree.
“And, James and Sam are staying with you at all times,” he continues.
“I don’t need both to babysit me,” I point out.
“Both,” Cal argues.
“One of them at a time with their mate,” I counter.
Cal goes quiet as he talks with Zviad.
“You will have have either Sam or James and their mate with you at all times, including going to the bathroom,” Cal orders.
I try not to roll my eyes.
‘How much trouble could we get into in the bathroom?’ Beren grumbles.
‘Let’s not test fate,’ I point out, we’ve had terrible luck in our lives. “Deal,” I say as I attempt to lean forward to seal the deal with a kiss.
Cal hesitates before he meets me and kisses me. “Go get ready to head to the pack house,” Cal says as he fingers fly over the screen on his phone.
“What are you doing?” I ask.
“Getting a flight to Denver,” he sighs.
