Forty Six

After he called Dionne, he put his cell phone in his pocket. He arranged the papers that were on his desk and put what he had been working on in the drawer. So that he won't get confused later. After a while he came out of his office and looked around looking for Kiley. He felt hungry and he hadn't found the man so he went straight to the hospital canteen and looked for a place to sit.

After a while, someone tapped him on the shoulder so he immediately turned around. Kiley's smiling face was what he saw next to Sahara and some doctors who were their colleagues. Lennox just shook his head because he didn't know that this woman's face was really thick. He admitted that the one who will be blessed with him is still very close, he started to get annoyed when he grinned too wide at him.

He also smiled so as not to embarrass the woman in front of her colleagues. He wasn't close to anyone except Kiley, but since they were at a work station, he was talking to whoever approached him, colleagues, but it was unlikely that they would eat together like now. It's just now because he wasn't informed that they would have someone to eat with. He also smiled at others so he wouldn't look like a snob in their eyes.

"Order now. I'll pay," he said with a smile.

"Really, Doctor Lennox?" said the gay surgeon happily as he looked at her.

"Of course. I'm sorry if I don't like to please. I happen to be doing too much," Lennox answered.

But the truth is that he doesn't really like to invite colleagues.

He doesn't want to take as long to eat if he has to talk to someone and he can't do his job anymore.

He is time conscious so he is always in a hurry because time is very important to him. Their colleagues had already ordered and Kiley sat down next to him.

"Aren't you comfortable with them? I didn't say you were the one to eat with me. But come with me so they don't have a boring night," said Kiley.

"It's okay. Besides, there's no problem. That's even better so we can eat more and be happier," Lennox answered with a laugh.

After a few hours, they ate quietly, obviously hungry. The night shift is no joke, I'm so tired and I haven't slept well yet. There are patients who cry because the pain is too much.

So their hearts are not made of stone so as not to feel the grief of the families. As he eats, he thinks about Dionne, how is she now at home. He worries too much if he is not there and he is here on duty. Later he will call her again to say hello but she might be asleep now because it is late at night.

While Dionne was lying in her bed. He is not sleepy yet because he and Baby Denise are the only two at home. His child is fast asleep so he can rest. She locks all the doors and windows so she doesn't overthink.

Maybe he needed something important so he immediately answered the call.

"Hello, May-Ann. Why?" Dionne asked.

"Did I disturb you, Sister?" May-Ann asked again.

"Not yet," he replied.

"It's good. I'm hesitating to call you maybe you're asleep," said the sister on the other line.

"Why? Do you need anything from me?" he asked.

"I wish there was. But I'm shy," answered May-Ann.

"What's that? Don't be shy. Do you need money?" Dionne asked.

There was silence on the other line. He thought the call had been cut, but it wasn't.

"Yes, Sister Dionne. Mom doesn't have enough money anymore, they bought all the materials for the house you are going to build. Our final exam is coming up and there are many projects and then I have to pay the exam fee," answered May-Ann.

"Okay. I'll send you tomorrow. Don't cry," said Dionne laughing.

It seems like her sister is about to cry so she laughs. She is so serious about her studies that she is afraid of not being able to take the exam. Her sister is in her third year of college and will be in her fourth year next year, so she is fully supported as the eldest. It is very difficult for those who have no education and did not graduate with a diploma. So when it's time to look for a job, the uneducated are really poor. So he thanked May-Ann because she studied hard. That's why she's fully supportive of her and no matter what she asks of her as long as she can give it, she won't hold a grudge.

She didn't want her to sulk because she had no one else to rely on but her. They have no family members to approach in times of need because they are also poor in life because her cousins got married early. That's why they are really the only family that will find life. When their house is finished, she plans to give his parents a business so that there will be a source of daily expenses because she will not be able to provide all the time especially now that she has a child to support.

She is ashamed because they don't know her situation until now. Maybe when Denise is older she will tell.
