Chapter 32 UNSEEN
“Hmmm I must say you have magic in your hands but not enough to steer my mind and body.” Mahina forced a smile at his remark and continued massaging his back. For the short period of time, he got to know Mahina even though he couldn’t use his ability on her he could tell she felt insulted by his remark. However, her silence was new.
“Mahina!” he called out her name and waited for her response.
“Yes Al!” she answered him with a sweet voice, and he sighed at how well he thought she was acting.
“Why do you always think the worst of me? I know I have done some really terrible things in my life. But I am not that bad, I have good in me and sometimes people just need the right motivation to bring out the good in them. I know you feel that I am trying to punish you for holding you here against your will but trust me I just need your help, but I don’t know how to ask. As you may know by now, I am a little too proud for my own good.”
Mahina was in disbelief of all that Alba just said to her. It was like a different person talking to her. She was shocked that he could see through all her uncertainties about him. Everything he said made her wonder if he was being honest or trying to manipulate her. Ever since they met Mahina had always seen Alba like a chameleon, who changes color base on the situation and place he finds himself at. To her he is sometimes, cool, sometimes indifferent about almost anything. He is a lot of things but being expressive and emotional isn’t part of those things.
“You should get some rest my silky kitty. It’s going to be a busy day tomorrow.”
He flipped her over from his back, so that she was now lying down on the bed, while he was still lying beside her. He smiled at her warmly and gave her a peck on her head before he left the room for his own good. Mahina was left alone in her room to her deep thoughts.
Dora was alone in her apartment engrossed in reading a book when her mind drifted off to Mahina.
"I hope she is not having sleeping issues over there” Dora used to help Mahina when she couldn’t sleep, as she was often tormented by nightmares. She would cry when ever that happens to her and Dora would be there to console her and sing to her until she fell asleep. While she was still thinking she noticed something moving behind her blinds.
The blinds of the window in the small simple sitting room in Dora’s and Mahina’s apartment was gliding with the wind blowing. Dora jumped from the couch and hurried to close the window. But as she approached the window, she noticed a glowing white hair floating behind the blinds. She became alert and quickly ignored the figure outside. She locked up the windows pretending she didn’t see a thing. The figure outside with the floating hair kept staring at her with a knowing smile.
“Hey! Hey! For how long, do you intend to pretend you can’t see me?... stop ignoring me... answer me already. I have been with you practically all your life, so why are you ignoring me?”
Dora moved cautiously to the shelf by the window with a smile and picked up a book, ignoring the figure outside. She sat on an armchair that was directly opposite the couch, she opened the book and started reading it.
Alright is this how you’re going to play it? fine! We will see. The little figure with floating white hair passed through the walls and started throwing books from the shelf. Dora was pissed she went and picked up the falling books and put it back in their place. The figure screamed extremely loudly until Dora covered her ears and yelled.
“What! What? Why won’t you leave me be?” Dora yelled at the floating figure
“I was certain you were pretending. The chosen seer of Orion. one of the twelve caged birds.” She moved round Dora and continued talking to her
“I am your living orb of divination!” she said excitedly
“Big deal! I told you all that I am not interested so what are you following me here for?” Dora asked as she crossed her legs and buried her face in her book.
“If that is the case, why are you hovering around her” she pointed at Mahina’s picture
“To protect her from you all!” The figure cackled and replied to her saying.
“You know you can’t run away from your destiny, right?” she sat at the top of the shelf looking down at Dora.
“Yes! I can and that’s what I am doing... go away” she answered the figure affirmatively.
“I can’t go away even if I wanted to, I am stuck with you... that’s how it is for the Orbs chosen for the twelve caged birds. We are stuck together whether we like it or not.” She smiled at Dora and spoke.
“I am loyal to only you... so you are permitted to use me as you wish... even if it’s to protect your friend Mahina from her pending doom, but I have to warn you that we can’t escape our destinies.” The orb tilted her head to the side and smiled brightly at Dora and for the first time Dora took a glimpse of her Orb. And she realized that her Orb was the prettiest creature she had ever seen.
Mahina was woken up by one of the maids working in Alba’s mansion. The maid tapped her a couple of times. Mahina opened her eyes slowly to be greeted by the fine maid waiting on her:
“Good morning my lady. Your breakfast is served. The master said you have to be at work early. Your schedule is as follows: you will be meeting with Mister Luther today for the signing of some documents. And later you will be escorting the young master to a charity event. For your comfortability you will be dressed in a simple gown to work, and you will be taking a cab from the mansion. This is so that the public won't steer any gossip about you and your morals. And so, I have prepared everything you will be needing from your breakfast to the clothes and simple jewelries you will be using. Your bath has already been prepared for you as well.”
“Wow that was a lot!” Mahina sighed as she wore her flip-flops.
The lady bowed before her a little and moved to the side. Mahina stood up and went straight to the bathroom. She had her bath in no time and got dressed. Then she sat and had her breakfast silently. Although she wanted to chat with the maid a little, but she looked too serious, so Mahina thought that maybe the maid didn’t want to talk to her at all. Mahina finished her food in silence. When she was done. She headed out of the mansion leaving the maid behind.
On her way out she asked the Butler for Alba since she hadn’t seen him since she woke up. it was unlike him. He was usually the one that woke her up with his naughty pranks. But she wasn’t surprised since he was unpredictable. The butler confirmed with her that Alba went out for a run. She felt at peace knowing where he went off to, although she wished she could have seen him first before going. She smiled at the butler kindly and nodded her head to him. And she was off to work.
After she left, Alba materialized out of the thin air and smiled:
“You better run my little kitty today is going to be one hell of a day. I feel it.”
