No, no…” Maricela shook her head violently, “Cedrick, listen to me, I never meant to kill Lucille… I… I can’t even bring myself to kill a chicken or a fish, how could I kill a person… I just wanted… wanted to play a prank on Lucille… She… she dislikes us, dislikes Harlan and David, and I thought… thought I’d get back at her for Harlan and David, make her embarrass herself at the company. So, I had Lucy bring her the mango juice. I truly only meant for her to show up in front of everyone with her allergic reaction…”
“Everyone poured their hearts into the company, sacrificed sleep night after night, that’s why we have today’s success… She… She just reaps the benefits at home, always causing trouble for you, for Harlan and David… I tried so hard to befriend her, to be a peacemaker and smooth things over… But she hated it, always yelling at me… I couldn’t take it anymore. Why does she get to see you whenever she wants? Why does she get whatever she asks for? I… I just lost my head. I locked her in the conference room. I just… just didn’t want her finding you so fast… I never imagined there’d be a fire…” Maricela gasped between sobs.
Lucille watched her coldly, recognizing the act. Would Cedrick make her forgive again?
“Cedrick, I… I’ll never do it again, I promise… I’ll behave… Please?
Forgive me…” Maricela’s tears splashed onto Cedrick’s sleeve.
Lucille laughed sharply. “Maricela, you’ve got it wrong. I’m the victim, not him!
Begging him for forgiveness makes no sense!”
“But Lucille…” Maricela looked up timidly, “I know you hate me… You always disliked me, and now you’ll never forgive me… I… I apologize, okay?
I’ll compensate you!
Medical bills, emotional damages… Please, can you forgive me?”
Lucille’s expression turned even more mocking. “Compensate?
With my husband’s money?”
Maricela flushed crimson, her eyes overflowing with wounded tears.
How pitiful! As if she was the one nearly burned alive!

Cedrick took a deep breath. “Lucille, that’s not fair…”
“Then what is fair?” Lucille knew it. Cedrick, that spineless fool, was already swayed To him. Maricela was a delicate fairy. How could a fairy harm anyone?
Clearly, she was just being righteous, standing up for him and his buddies against the wicked wife!
“Maricela offered to compensate you…”
“With my husband’s money?
She keeps saying the company is the fruit of your and your buddies‘ hard work, that I’m freeloading. Isn’t she?
What has she done to deserve being your executive assistant?
To live in a house you bought?
To wear jewelry you paid for?”
“Lucille!” Cedrick’s furious face confirmed her guess.
She’d just been throwing wild accusations, but he had bought Maricela a house!?
She fell silent, staring at the pair with a scornful smile.
“Lucille, Maricela just came back from abroad. As friends, we look out for her…”
“Stop.” Lucille cut him off. “I don’t care if it’s deep friendship or a deeper affair. I just want my life! To live safely in this world!
Wires don’t snap on their own!
Fires don’t start by themselves!
I want the truth!
Justice!”
True gold fears no fire; with a clear conscience, you can stand tall before the police!
Crying and whining here is useless!
There aren’t many idiots like Cedrick in the whole world!

After all, being this stupid, one has already maxed out the quota!
Maricela’s nonsense, Cedrick believed it, but Lucille didn’t!
This was the first time she so blatantly called Cedrick an idiot; Cedrick looked at her in disbelief, as if he didn’t know her, unable to speak for a long time.
