Lucille laughed. “She tried to kill your wife! I’m not the one causing trouble!”
Oh right, that argument wouldn’t work on him. He firmly believed his innocent darling could never commit murder–it must be a misunderstanding.
“She-”
He barely got one word out before she cut him off impatiently, “Forget it, don’t bother.”
“Lucille!”
“Can’t you handle this?
With your wealth and connections, Mr. Big Shot, aren’t you willing to spare no expense?”
“Fine!”
Cedrick’s expression darkened as he drove off with her in the car.
A sudden question occurred to Lucille. She wanted to ask Cedrick: Back in the rehab room, did he stop her exercises because he genuinely thought she was in too much pain… or just to discuss sparing Maricela?
But she didn’t ask.
The answer was obvious.
Of course it was the latter!
See? Had he asked even once if she still hurt?
This suspicion was confirmed when they reached the police station.
He got out and marched straight inside, not caring whether she had the strength to walk after exiting the car, or if her leg still ached…
Lucille received a call while getting out. As she stood by the car talking, Cedrick was already far ahead. He seemed to remember her suddenly, glanced back, but didn’t wait–just walked inside.

Lucille never expected Cedrick’s loyalty to lean her way anyway. After hanging up, she slowly entered the station herself.
To her surprise, Maricela was there too–with Harlan and David flanking her like bodyguards. Cedrick was speaking with officers.
Maricela sat crying on a chair, Harlan and David glaring at Lucille from either side as if she’d murdered their fathers. So much hatred?
When Cedrick finished with the police, Harlan promptly stood and offered his seat beside Maricela to Cedrick.
Cedrick took it without hesitation.
Watching this, Lucille felt she’d witnessed every absurdity humanity could offer.
Yet stranger things awaited.
The witnesses from Cedrick’s company changed their stories completely.
The receptionist claimed she was new and didn’t recognize Mrs. Maynard. Since various girls often came looking for Cedrick, she mistook Lucille for one of them. As for Lucille’s distress call? The receptionist insisted girls had pulled that stunt before to lure Cedrick out.
She maintained her actions protected company interests and preserved Cedrick’s marriage- all in good faith. She saw no wrongdoing.
As for Lucy, she admitted knowingly serving Lucille mango juice while claiming it was passionfruit lemonade, fully aware of Lucille’s allergy. Security footage confirmed Lucy locked the door–which Lucy also admitted.
Lucille said she envied Lucille. She’d been Cedrick’s secretary for years, secretly in love with him all along. How could a cripple like Lucille marry Cedrick and become Mrs. Maynard, living in the spotlight?
She couldn’t accept it, so she decided to mess with Lucille.
As for the cut wires in the conference room, an electrician admitted he’d severed them. He claimed it was for maintenance checks, but before he could fix them, the fire broke out.
Lucille glanced at Cedrick. Was this his all–out effort?
His Money Talks had worked perfectly, shielding Maricela completely. Every incident found someone to take the blame, letting this pure little flower stay entirely untouched.

David and Harlan looked at her with smug, challenging eyes, as if saying: What can you do
to us?
Maricela sobbed uncontrollably, her voice trembling with grievance as she spoke to Lucille. “Lucille… I know you’re insecure, always doubting Cedrick, especially suspecting me. That’s why you accused me without proof of hurting you. But do you see now?
It really wasn’t me. Cedrick and I are completely innocent…”
Lucille looked at Maricela before her, seeing her so heartbroken that she covered her face and cried, tears streaming down between her fingers in big drops.
