Chapter 102
“You don’t care“?”
Cedrick sneered, “The more you lack something, the more you boast about it. Saying you don’t care, but actually you care the most.”
“Lucille, don’t think I don’t know. In high school, you had a crush on me, didn’t you?”
“Using excuses to ask me about problems, actually trying to get my attention. Giving me Pumpkin Pie on Thanksgiving, still trying to pursue me. After college, risking your life to save me. Now you tell me you don’t care? Who believes it?”
Lucille froze.
She thought after going through all this, she wouldn’t feel pain anymore.
But she still underestimated the hurt this relationship brought her.
So, he knew everything, he remembered everything.
She admitted she once had a crush on him.
But that was just her own secret feelings; she never thought about getting him.
She asked him to explain problems, wanting to pay him to be her tutor, so she could help him through the financial hardship at home without hurting his pride.
On Thanksgiving, she gave him Pumpkin Pie, just wanting to give a bit of warmth to him who also had a messy corner, on that special holiday.
Later, she saved him…
Even though she became lame in one leg, she never thought about repayment, let alone using it to threaten him into marrying her.
In this marriage, she had already planned to retreat. She built a tough shell for herself, trying to tell herself not to feel pain anymore, not to be hurt again.
But she never expected that all the kindness she once showed him would turn into arrows he shot at her, piercing her armor, leaving her riddled with holes again…

Forget it, just let it be…
She felt weak all over, gave up explaining.
Explaining is useless. When she completely leaves him one day, he’ll naturally know whether she cares about the title of Mrs. Maynard.
Seeing her like this, he instead came to put his arm around her shoulder.
She held her breath.
She always remembered that Thanksgiving, sitting under the Flowering Tree eating Pumpkin Pie with him. When they parted, a flowering blossom fell on his school uniform shoulder, tender yellow, shimmering under the moonlight. At that moment, he was filled with the sweet scent of flowering blossoms.
Later, the lingering scent of flowering blossoms drifted faintly throughout the youth season, warming it.
But now, on Cedrick leaning close, there was only a suffocating perfume smell.
She felt awful, turned her head away, slapped his hand off. “Talk properly if you have something to say, don’t touch me. I said I find it dirty.”
This successfully stirred anger in Cedrick’s eyes, but he didn’t scold her. Instead, he softened his voice, “Lucille, I know you love me. The vow I once made won’t change; you’ll always be my Mrs. Maynard.”
Lucille felt something was off, turned to ask him, “So?”
He hesitated, then finally spoke, “So, don’t always target Maricela. This time’s matter…”
Lucille sneered, sure enough, waiting here.
For Maricela, he could really risk everything.
The proud and aloof Cedrick, called dirty by her, could actually swallow his anger.
Then Lucille’s phone rang in her backpack. She answered, found it was the local police station calling, asking her to come over.
“Okay, I’ll be right there.”
Lucille put down the phone.

“I’ll take you.”
Cedrick said immediately.
Lucille thought for a moment, “Fine.”
Cedrick hesitated to speak.
Lucille pretended not to notice his indecision.
But he would speak eventually.
As expected, his hand resting on the steering wheel, he called her name softly again: “Lucille.”
“Hmm?”
“Promise me you won’t make things hard for her.”
