Chapter 469 Unique Way of Comforting
Chapter 469 Unique Way of Comforting
"Thanks, but you really don't have to go all out for me. Your future's more important. It's better not to tick her off."
Isaiah felt a rush of emotion. He hadn't expected Maeve to care so much about him.
He told Maeve about how he had deliberately made things tough for Lauren the other day.
They had exchanged phone numbers the last time they met at the coffee shop.
Maeve hadn't expected that just going to buy a coffee would lead to such an unexpected gain. This Isaiah seemed so easy to manipulate.
CEO's Office
Felix stood in front of Quentin, reporting on his work. "I got word today that Kurt Lowe is back in the country."
"He actually came back? Do we know why?" Quentin's brow furrowed, unsure if it was because of Kurt himself or his return.
"We haven't nailed down the details yet. He came back pretty quietly. If our people hadn't spotted him at the airport, we'd still be clueless."
Felix's expression turned serious. Kurt's return could be either a blessing or a curse for Robinson Conglomerate.
One thing was certain: Kurt's return meant that the major powers in the country would have to be redefined.
Quentin pondered for a moment. "Send a few people to keep an eye on him. If he makes any big moves, let me know right away. Once the media reports his return, we'll visit him."
"Got it, Mr. Robinson."
After finishing his report, Felix didn't leave right away. Quentin gave him a puzzled look. "Why are you still here?"
"Although it's not really my place to say this, Mr. Robinson, it's best not to drag out a fight between a married couple. Mrs. Lauren Robinson should be easy to appease."
Quentin seemed to consider Felix's words. When he snapped back to reality, he saw Felix still standing there and immediately dismissed him. "Alright, you can go now. Don't worry about my personal matters."
During the lunch break, the design department staff stopped working and headed to the cafeteria. They were surprised to find Quentin standing at their door.
Quentin leaned against the doorframe, hands in his pockets, looking indifferent. He didn't say a word, but his powerful presence was palpable.
Even those passing by couldn't help but glance back at him.
"That's Mr. Quentin Robinson. Ever since Mrs. Lauren Robinson started working in the design department, I've been seeing Mr. Quentin Robinson more often."
"Looks like Mr. Quentin Robinson is waiting to have lunch with Mrs. Lauren Robinson. How sweet."
Isaiah overheard the conversation as he passed by and couldn't help but stop and look, his eyes filled with envy.
"A mysterious and powerful man like Mr. Robinson can only be matched by an equally exceptional woman. Does Lauren really deserve him?"
"I don't get what these outstanding people are thinking. Maybe they just want someone ordinary to make themselves look better."
Isaiah shrugged. He didn't like it, but he was smart enough to keep his thoughts to himself.
Given how much Quentin valued Lauren, if he heard these comments, Isaiah would probably be handing in his resignation the next day.
Lauren was startled to see Quentin at the door. Ignoring the stares, she quickly pulled him aside. "What are you doing here? Don't you know how much attention you attract in the company?"
"Can't I have the right to eat with my wife? Let them look if they want."
Quentin's matter-of-fact tone showed his determination. Lauren had no choice but to leave with him.
To her surprise, Quentin chose the employee cafeteria for lunch. He usually hated crowded places, a habit Lauren knew well.
"Why did you choose to eat here?" Lauren had gotten used to the stares by now.
"Nothing special. I just haven't tried it before. As the CEO, I should check out the employees' dining environment and standards."
Quentin had his excuse ready, and Lauren couldn't help but believe him.
During lunch, Quentin was unusually attentive. He carried Lauren's tray and picked out her favorite dishes, not letting her lift a finger.
Lauren was more uncomfortable with Quentin's attitude than the envious stares. Even during the meal, he seemed distracted. "What's going on with you today? You never do these things."
Quentin paused, then quickly regained his composure. "Just because I didn't do it before doesn't mean I won't do it now. Eat up."
Lauren was on edge throughout the meal. It wasn't until Felix came to see her in the afternoon that she understood.
"I heard Mr. Quentin Robinson had lunch with you in the cafeteria."
"Even you heard that gossip? People here really have nothing better to do." Lauren shook her head, amused.
"It's not just gossip. Mr. Robinson is very noticeable. But he didn't seem happy when he came back. Was the lunch unpleasant?"
Felix recalled Quentin's cold demeanor after lunch, feeling a bit helpless.
When Quentin was in a bad mood, his subordinates were on edge, afraid of making mistakes.
"It wasn't unpleasant. I just wasn't used to it. Can you imagine Mr. Robinson carrying my tray and doing all those little things? It just doesn't suit him."
Felix nodded in understanding, finally grasping Lauren's dilemma. He chuckled.
"Maybe it's my fault. I suggested Mr. Robinson should try to make up with you. But you know, he's not good at expressing himself. Maybe he thought doing those little things was his way of making it up to you."
Lauren thought back to Quentin's actions at lunch and suddenly laughed. "Are you saying he did all that to make up with me?"
"It might sound unbelievable, but I think so." Felix looked resigned.
With a boss like Quentin, who was handsome and wealthy but terrible at romance, finding a girlfriend would be tough if not for his looks and money.
"I get it. Don't worry, I'll make sure your work can proceed as usual."
Lauren understood Felix's purpose in coming to see her. Having a boss like Quentin was indeed a headache.
Relieved by Lauren's assurance, Felix finally relaxed. "Thank you, Mrs. Robinson."
After Felix left, Lauren sent a message to Quentin.
