Chapter 231: Time To Give Orders

Chapter 231: Time To Give Orders
Vladic Regime's POV:

"Emeric, I am pleased that you could come here on such short notice, for I know the hour is relatively late,” I called out to him, ensuring to watch each move he made, even seeing him swallow hard before he took his first few steps towards me. I watched as he slowly made his way across the floor from the long, red, trimmed, and black outline rug, all the way over to the black high-top chair, seated across from my desk. "That's it, come take a seat, here."

I was careful in choosing each word to have the most significant impact on his nerves. I allowed for my words to be spoken slowly, giving full effect as to the seriousness of this nature. At first, the first few steps he made were slow. In that, I wasn't a very patient man, and his experience working for me would have taught him as much. He could tell this just by my reaction alone. In that moment, I lifted my head off my interlocked fingers as I lowered my chin, intensifying the look I had in his direction.

"My apologies, My Lord Regime," Emeric said in that moment as he quickened his pace as he had nearly reached the chair that was opposite my desk. "I don't mean to keep you waiting."

It was uncommon for me to summon him in this particular manner. When Emeric finally took his seat, he pulled his shoulders back before he spoke.

"My Lord regime?" Emeric asked as he seemed to be wary of the current summoning word he had received from Balmerian. "Sire, Balmerian said you needed to see me with urgent news."

"Precisely, that is the case on such an evening as this," I spoke, my tone heavy and deep.

I took a moment to relax my posture a bit, lowering my chin and softening the narrowing of my eyes. I even lowered my hands to place them in my lap as he seemed to relax a bit as well, thinking this was going to go well for him. Then, without warning, I quickly stood up to my feet, watching him flinch and leaning back in his chair when I grabbed the front edge of my desk.

"That is correct. The reason for convening this meeting at such a late hour was solely due to the necessity of inviting you here so I could discuss that very need that has arisen," I told him as he raised his brows, almost holding his breath if you will, waiting for what I was going to say next.

His posture was cautious, which was rather appropriate for this specific moment. I was pleased with his reaction, along with his timid demeanor. Ultimately, even his expression indicated some nervousness, despite the uncertainty about how to position his hands in his lap. I narrowed my eyes when he finally summoned the courage to ask his next question.

"Yes, Sire, and what is it,... that you wish to discuss?" Emeric asked, his words broken.

Without waiting a moment to respond, I immediately spoke, saying, "I need you to put together an assemblage. We must leave at once."

"Tonight?! Sire, have you received news?" Emeric asked me when he leaned forward, as he was quite confused. "I have not heard anything, so is there something you heard that I had yet to discover?"

Usually, it was he who would be the one to return to me with this type of news. I fully understood the worry of his position, as well as the concern of his assignment as a news bearer in jeopardy of being replaced. However, it was I who was the one who held such news that he had yet to be privy to, as in this case, the roles were reversed.

"In this, I solely want you to carry out my order," I told him as I reached around me, placing both of my hands behind my back, while I used one hand to grasp the opposite wrist as I looked toward the window in my office, before I turned to look back at him at that time.

Emeric, hearing the seriousness of my tone, swallowed hard as he tried to clear his throat as he attempted to stand at his feet. “I understand your wishes, Sire," Emeric said as he leaned forward, bowing to me as he stood there in front of his chair, and then, when he stood upright, he asked. “Sire, is there any particular individuals you shall have me obtain for this particular assemblage?"

When he asked that, I levitated as I floated over to hover my position in front of my window before I remained there briefly, before turning around and then landing my feet on the floor again, still with my hands perched behind my back. "You know who the ones are that need to go on this particular mission of sorts. Oh, and do be sure to inform Brookli that I wish for her to remain here, as I am more than certain that she will insist on her attending us as well. I do not wish to have that to deal with, in addition to what I need to get accomplished.

"Yes, Sire, I will go and gather the ones who need to go," Emeric said, making sure he repeated my order back so that there wouldn't be a mistake when it came to specific details.

I watched him fidget slightly in his stance before he turned to head toward the closed door to my office. Just as he was reaching for the handle, I raised my hand, preventing him from touching it as he turned to look at me, confused why I didn't want him to touch the door to open it for himself.

"Oh, and Emeric," I called out as he raised his brows at me once more, waiting to hear what I had to say. "Be sure to make haste. I don't wish for any more delays."

"Yes, Sire, I will be sure to be quick about this," he said as I waved my hand about, causing the door to swing open as he immediately walked through the open doorway and around the corner out of sight.

I sighed, knowing that it shouldn't be that much longer now. This is what I needed. No, this is what I exist for. Only to see the efforts of my schemes work out just as I had planned them previously, knowing I want nothing more than to memorialize the death of my hated enemy since time began.
