Chapter 226: We Need To Get Going...
226: We Need To Get Going...
Rameric's POV:
There was so much happening in such a short amount of time within my pack, and a lot of it came from an unknown source. As for the positive, between the finding of my Fated Mate and the whole story that came along with it, I was still trying to get used to that. Now, the last thing I expected when finding my Mate was that it came down to the issues involving her younger brother
He very well may be a young member of my pack, but somewhere in there, it seemed as if her younger brother, Brazen, and his wolf, Blaze, didn't like the fact of her treatment over this past week. I didn't have a hand in that, but in a way, I knew I considered myself responsible in the back of my mind. As if I didn't know any better, I would think that Brazen seemed to hold me personally responsible for it, too.
If Blaze was this fierce at such a young age as Brazen, there is no telling how powerful he might become. As I approached the pile of broken wood from the door that Brazen's wolf left behind in his wake of destruction, a thought entered my mind. I knew to expect much from a bloodline like The Fierce Lerion Warrior, but I didn't expect to be on the receiving end of that fierce temperament. That is the last place that I wanted to be.
I looked back down at my Bonded Mate, lying there weak in my arms as I lifted the back side of my arm so I could get a better look at her. That's when I asked her, "Are you ready to get cleaned up?"
I should have known better than to ask such a posing question. She looked up at me, but only for a brief moment before she turned to look away from me and back down at the broken pile of wood that used to be the door to my chambers. I have to say, the way she pulled her gaze away from mine hurt more than I wanted to admit it did. I could even feel the pain deep inside me that ached, only it wasn't from me that it originated.
'Why, why did all of this have to happen?' I heard her ask within her own thoughts. 'Why did all this have to happen to me? Why now?!'
'I do not have all the answers yet, my Mate,' I told her, inside her mind as I tried to ease some of her thoughts of what happened over these past few days. 'There is a lot I will sort out and get to the bottom of. I want to assure you that I will not rest till the ones responsible are brought to light.'
'I don't care about any of that,' I heard her say within her thoughts this time.
I knew there was nothing I could say that would make any of this better. She could even hear the whimpering sound that was emitting from deep inside my chest, letting her know that Rager was not pleased with the outcome of this either. However, she was broken inside. No matter how much I tried to block that out, somehow, she found a way around it, stemming from the depth of pain within her thoughts themselves.
I made my way down the corridor to my bathing chambers. The only thing I could do was give her time to come around. That, and a long, relaxing soak. I had hoped that would help to soothe her over a bit. She really needed to relax her mind, and if I started on the outside, that is what I would do for now.
As we made our way to my bathing chamber, she didn't even so much as try to look in my general direction. I narrowed my brow, thinking of the damage I caused by letting her be taken from me. I cannot believe I didn't do something sooner than this.
When I reached the appropriate door, it suddenly opened from the inside. One of the menials was standing there, her hand on the door, her gaze fixed on the floor. I walked over past her as she followed me after closing the door all the way.
"My Alpha Caine?" The menial called my name, making sure to speak rather softly when she reached the side of the bathing basin.
I knew her tone was soft for a reason. It was even cautious, as she knew the look of my Bonded Mate lying there helpless in my arms. At this point, I couldn't tell if she had her eyes open or not. All I could feel from her was pain, pain that she didn't allow me to cover up.
"Do you need any assistance?" The menial asked this time, bringing me back to the fact that she was still standing near me with her eyes fixated on the floor.
"She can stay," Alasia spoke softly, her words on the brink of breaking. Then, she stunned me when she looked up at me this time. "I don't care about anything anymore. Other than my brother Brazen, that is."
What have I done? I asked myself as I forced my eyes to close in that instance. I was the one who caused this. I was the one who didn't trust her. I should have known that she was made to do what she did prior. I closed my eyes again, and I could see the image of a shadow in front of her. She previously stood there in front of me with a knife, all before she looked directly at me and stabbed me deep with it.
In that memory, I could feel the same place that was stabbed. It was in that moment that my Bonded Mate turned to look up at me, and our eyes connected with each other. It was also in this moment that I saw tears swelling in her eyes, with some already running free and leaving stains on the sides of her soft cheeks.
"I..." I opened my eyes when I started to say to her as I looked deep into her tear-filled eyes. "I don't know what to say."
"Say that you were wrong," Alasia told me in that moment. "Say that you know you hurt me. By not allowing me to come to you, you hurt me!"
"I hurt you, and there is nothing I can do to change that," I told her, as I watched the tears fall.
