Chapter 428 Bring a Little Light

Chapter 428 Bring a Little Light

After Gilbert left, Alexander was the only one left in the private room.

He shook his head with a bitter smile. Deep down, he knew it was impossible for Gilbert to have done this himself; it didn't match his style.

But even if it wasn't him, it definitely had something to do with the Harvey family.

Alexander had long felt that some people within the Harvey family needed to be dealt with. This was the perfect opportunity.

If he didn't take care of it now, who knew what kind of trouble it would cause in the future.

When Gilbert returned to the Harvey Group, he immediately launched a thorough investigation into the production lines of all the factories to verify if any parts were being produced for the Russell Group.

After an entire afternoon of checking, he became increasingly aware of the sophistication of the person behind this. He had no leads and couldn't find any clues.

To pull off such a deception, the person behind it must have fooled many eyes and created numerous fake accounts to make everything appear flawless and clean.

If it weren't for the document Alexander gave him at the club, comparing the two, he would have remained in the dark.

The only difference was the model of the parts being shipped; everything else was identical.

With a heavy heart, Gilbert dialed a number and said to the person on the other end, "Stop the production lines immediately. Send people to investigate thoroughly. We must get to the bottom of this."

But where should he start?

He had a vague idea of who might be behind this, but he hadn't figured out how to confront them yet.

Wendy had just finished work and hadn't even gotten into her car when she saw Gilbert's car parked by the roadside.

Without thinking, she walked straight over. When she opened the car door, she was taken aback.

Sitting in the back seat wasn't Gilbert or Lucy, but Tessa.

Gilbert was in the driver's seat. Seeing her, he said, "Wendy, get in the car first."

Wendy quickly got in and shut the door tightly.

Tessa looked like a ghost, slumped against the other door. If it weren't for the faint rise and fall of her chest, one might think she was a lifeless corpse.

At this moment, her eyes were empty, lost, almost indistinguishable from a dead person.

"What happened to you?" Wendy asked softly.

Tessa's eyes moved mechanically but didn't respond.

Gilbert answered for her, "She can't speak anymore."

Wendy was puzzled and pressed, "Why?"

"Her tongue was cut out," Gilbert said, his voice low and heavy.

As if on cue, Tessa slowly opened her mouth, revealing only a short stump where her tongue used to be. It was easy to imagine the cruelty of the process.

Wendy's mouth dropped open in shock. She forced herself to stay calm, incredulous. "How could this happen? Who could be so cruel?"

A living person, having their tongue cut out so brutally—who could be so heartless?

When Wendy moved closer, Tessa flinched instinctively, her eyes filled with fear and vigilance.

"Tessa," Wendy called softly, "how are you feeling?"

Tessa looked up at her briefly before quickly lowering her head again, her hands gripping her pants tightly, knuckles white.

She opened her mouth but could only make garbled sounds.

After a long while, Tessa shakily picked up her phone and typed in the notes app for Wendy to see: [I can never speak again.]

The words on the screen were shaky, each one followed by a small smudge of tears.

[The Russell family will do anything. My life is ruined.]

[What's the point of living? I can't even curse "bastard."]

Reading these words, Wendy felt a sharp pain in her heart, but her face remained calm, showing no emotion.

"Are you scared?" Wendy asked directly and calmly. "Do you hate the Russell family?"

Tessa was stunned, her swollen eyes staring at Wendy as if seriously considering the question for the first time.

Then, she nodded frantically, then shook her head, crying and laughing, looking almost madly pitiful and absurd.

The phone screen lit up again: [Sophie is a devil. She destroyed Maeve and me. We are all her pawns, easily crushed.]

[They cut out my tongue to tell me: shut up, don't resist. This is my fate, right?]

The car fell into a brief silence. Wendy suddenly reached out and gripped Tessa's cold, stiff hand tightly, causing her a bit of pain but not letting go.

"No," Wendy's voice was low but firm, "your fate doesn't belong to anyone, not even Sophie."

"If you're willing, I can help you get revenge, help Maeve get revenge, and make the Russell family pay. But I need your cooperation. Do you dare?"

At that moment, their eyes met in the air, one resolute, the other desperate.

Tessa's eyes widened, looking at Wendy in disbelief.

There was hesitation, fear, and a tiny spark of hope that was about to be extinguished but reignited.

The phone slowly typed out a line: [What do I have to do? What will it cost me?]

"You won't have to suffer anymore," Wendy said calmly. "Just tell us everything you know, leave the evidence, and we'll handle the rest. When it's over, we'll send you back home, and no one will find you. You can start a new life with a new identity."

These words sounded simple, but only those involved understood the danger and sacrifice behind them, and the courage to completely say goodbye to everything familiar!

Tessa didn't respond for a long time. She wiped her tears with her sleeve, took a deep breath, and moved a little closer to Wendy, clutching her sleeve tightly like a drowning person grabbing the last lifeline.

The phone screen showed a sentence: [I promise you!]

After typing this, she finally broke down, crying silently, her body shaking violently, tears streaming down her face, more heartbreaking than any scream.

After a long time, she typed out intermittently: [Thank... thank you...]

Thanking for the opportunity, and for someone willing to treat her as a real person, not a pawn to be discarded, trampled, and destroyed after use!

"Everything will end," Wendy comforted softly. "When the dust settles, we'll personally send you back home. No one will hurt you again."

Even in the darkest of times, there are always people who will bring a little light for others.
