Chapter 427: Request for Help
Chapter 427 Request for Help
The voice on the other end of the phone spoke fluent Arcturian.
After a brief exchange, they agreed on a time and place to meet.
Sophie immediately had someone book a flight; she was eager to get things rolling.
Arcturus, where it feels like summer all year round, was blazing with sunlight.
A tall Black man greeted Sophie with a warm hug, exclaiming, "Ms. Russell, it's been ages!"
Sophie struggled to wrap her arms around his back and patted him, saying, "It's been a while, Vincent."
Vincent Carl released her and looked her up and down, admiringly saying, "You're still as charming as ever."
Sophie smiled slightly and said, "Let's skip the pleasantries, Vincent. I'm here for business. I need your help. Can we find a quiet place to talk?"
Vincent shrugged and laughed heartily, "No problem."
With a wave of his hand, Sophie noticed a dozen men with menacing looks watching them from a distance.
Considering Vincent's background, Sophie was even more determined to persuade him to help.
"So, what's the matter? It's not easy to get you to ask for help," Vincent said, his rugged face showing a playful expression.
Sophie knew his personality well. Her eyes shifted, and tears quickly welled up.
A woman's tears naturally evoke a protective instinct in men.
Seeing this, Vincent hurriedly pulled out a tissue and handed it to her, anxiously saying, "Why are you crying? Who bullied you? Tell me, and I'll take care of it."
Sophie wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and began to tell the story she had prepared, her voice full of emotion.
She twisted Wendy and Alexander's relationship into a tale of betrayal and infidelity, claiming Wendy had framed her and sent her to prison after achieving her goals.
Vincent, who had spent years in the underworld, despised deceit and betrayal the most.
Hearing this, he angrily slammed the table and shouted, "That's outrageous!"
Seeing the opportunity, Sophie added more fuel to the fire, saying, "Vincent, I'm really at my wit's end now. I've lost everything, and even my grandfather is deeply disappointed in me."
Vincent furrowed his thick brows, hesitating, and said, "Sophie, this matter is neither big nor small, I..."
Sophie interrupted him, speaking earnestly, "Vincent, I promise you as the heir to the Russell Group, if you help me now, I can give you five percent of the Russell Group's shares in the future and help you open up the domestic market."
This offer was like a juicy steak to a starving beast for Vincent.
Afraid she might change her mind, Vincent immediately clapped his hands in approval and had someone bring paper and pen.
After Sophie pressed her fingerprint on the paper, Vincent patted his chest and assured her, "Don't worry, I'll bring my men to your country tomorrow. Do whatever you need to do; I've got your back!"
Sophie's lips curled into a satisfied smile.
The Russell Mansion.
Sophie's trip to and from Arcturus took only two days.
As soon as she arrived home, Gwyneth hurried to greet her.
"Ms. Russell, you're finally back. Mr. Russell is waiting for you in the study."
Sophie nodded and quickly walked into the study.
"Grandpa, I'm back," she said, her voice steady, no longer anxious as before, but more composed.
During her days at the police station, she had come to understand many things.
She used to think that being Liam's granddaughter meant she could always enjoy his favor.
But her recent experiences made her realize that everything she relied on could be taken away at Liam's whim.
Liam was writing the word "endure" on a piece of paper.
He spoke gently, "You're back? Don't blame me, the live broadcast incident caused too much trouble. No one dared to openly protect you. We had to wait until the danger subsided a bit to get you out."
After all, without direct evidence, it was hard to convict her.
Moreover, Tessa's subsequent video was like a mad rant, trying to drag everyone into the mess.
Sophie wore a perfectly timed smile, but there was a hint of detachment as she gently shook her head and said, "Grandpa, aren't you curious why I went to Arcturus these past two days and who I met?"
"Who did you meet?" Liam had thought Sophie wouldn't bring this up.
"Since Alexander has decided to cut ties with the Russell Group, he must have already teamed up with the Harvey Group to come after us. We're in a tight spot now, and we need a strong ally. I went to find someone we can form an alliance with," Sophie said seriously.
Liam squinted slightly, pondering what kind of ally she could find to rival the Turner family.
"The Carl family from Arcturus. Grandpa, are you satisfied with this gift?" Sophie said, slamming a contract onto the table.
Liam's eyes scanned the contract and saw the name "Carl."
The Carl family from Arcturus was a renowned family, their power rivaling the Turner family.
The key was, they had a mafia background.
He opened the contract and looked at it, but when he saw the promise of five percent of the Russell Group's shares to Vincent, he paused and said, "Five percent of the Russell Group's shares? You really have guts, making such a big promise without consulting me."
"Grandpa, you know the saying, 'You have to give to get.' Besides, you've always wanted to take over the Turner Group and become the unrivaled business leader in Aurora City. When that happens, what's five percent of the Russell Group's shares? It's a small price to pay," Sophie said calmly, her expression firm.
Liam straightened his back, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes, and sighed, "I guess I'm getting old. The future belongs to you young people."
"Grandpa, as long as you're here, the Russell Group will always be yours," Sophie said, a meaningful glint in her eyes.
"Getting old has its downsides. It always feels like the younger generation is waiting for us to die so they can take over," Liam said with a self-deprecating laugh.
Sophie couldn't help but laugh and said, "Grandpa, what are you saying? I hope you live a long life."
Liam gently patted her hand and said, "You've had a tough time at the police station. The Russell Group is still yours. Go back to the company tomorrow. Alexander's desperate move to destroy the three-way partnership has landed all the Summit Group's orders in our lap."
"What? Can we handle such a large volume of orders?" Sophie was genuinely surprised; she hadn't known about this.
Liam continued, "We have to handle it, even if it's tough. His plan is to drag us down, but Mrs. Harvey is someone we can use. She provided the Russell Group with two production lines, on the condition that Wendy must die."
Sophie laughed softly and said, "I didn't expect her to be so ruthless, but it suits me just fine."
Suddenly remembering something, she asked urgently, "What about Tessa? Is she dead?"
In her view, only the dead wouldn't talk.
Liam replied calmly, "We spared her life but cut out her tongue. She won't be saying anything."
In a quiet club.
Gilbert had just stepped into the private room when he sensed something was off.
Alexander rarely contacted him unless the Russell family was up to something.
But as far as he knew, the Russell family hadn't made any big moves recently.
As soon as he sat down, he saw Alexander's face was dark and stormy. He couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"
"Mr. Harvey, I always thought you and I both hated the Russell Group and had the same goals," Alexander said, his eyes complex.
His words puzzled Gilbert even more, and he asked, "What are you trying to say?"
"A few days ago, I paid a huge price to terminate the contract with the Summit Group, aiming to put the Russell Group in a bind. But before they could suffer, Liam cleverly resolved the crisis. I've been investigating who in Aurora City has the guts to go against the Turner Group, something even Ethan wouldn't dare to do. I found out the mastermind behind it is connected to your Harvey family," Alexander said, his eyes cold.
Gilbert frowned, incredulous, and said, "Alexander, I don't understand what you're saying. I know the Russell Group's factory is in trouble, but the Harvey family would never help them. Don't make baseless accusations."
Alexander shook his head and threw the information Francis had gathered in front of him.
The more Gilbert read, the more shocked he became. He quickly said, "I really didn't know about this."
The factory wasn't in Aurora City but in another city. He had no idea the people there had defied orders and secretly helped the Russell Group.
But who gave the orders?
Gilbert gathered the documents and left, saying only, "I'll give you an explanation."
