Chapter 419 Do Not Go Too Far

Chapter 419 Do Not Go Too Far

"This is ridiculous!" Sophie fumed, her usual poise completely shattered.

She took a few deep breaths, trying to regain her composure, then instructed her assistant to arrange a meeting with the head of the wine supplier, emphasizing the importance of sincerity.

The Russell Group had always had a solid relationship with this supplier, and there had never been any issues before.

Now, with the abrupt termination of their partnership, she deserved a reasonable explanation.

The assistant was also seething. He remembered the arrogant and rude attitude of the person on the phone earlier and was itching to give them a piece of his mind.

But the reality was that the Russell Group needed them now, so he had to swallow his anger.

Reluctantly, the assistant returned to his desk and dialed the supplier's number again as Sophie had requested.

As expected, the head of the wine supplier didn't answer the phone, instead delegating a junior employee to handle it.

Hearing the arrogant tone on the other end, the assistant fought the urge to hang up and tried to speak calmly, "Just pass a message to your boss. After this, I won't bother you again."

The junior employee glanced at the boss sitting nearby, who shook his head slightly.

The employee then smiled and made a "got it" gesture before clearing his throat and saying, "Sorry, our boss is too busy to spare even a moment."

The assistant couldn't hold back anymore and snorted, "Don't push it. The Russell Group won't always be on a downward slope. Whether you meet or not, it's up to you."

With that, he angrily hung up the phone.

The junior employee stared at the busy signal for a moment, then sneered at the phone screen, "Who are you trying to scare? Anyone can talk big. If you have the guts, don't come begging us!"

The wine supplier's boss heard the commotion and walked over, asking, "What did they say?"

The junior employee exaggerated the conversation, indignantly saying, "Boss, don't worry. If they dare to cause trouble, we won't be afraid. We'll make sure they leave empty-handed!"

The boss looked exasperated, almost confused by the employee's chaotic recount.

After thinking for a moment, he realized Sophie had a point.

Even if they decided not to cooperate, there was no need to completely sever ties, as it wouldn't benefit him.

With that in mind, he calmed the overly excited employee and said, "Alright, send them a message. Tell them to meet at River Cafe at 5 PM. No excuses."

Finally, Sophie met with the wine supplier's boss.

She didn't beat around the bush and directly asked, "I won't mince words. The Russell Group did a thorough investigation before deciding to work with you. We know a bit about your character and business style. Breaking promises doesn't seem to fit your usual conduct, does it?"

Simon Smith, the boss, crossed his legs and lit a cigarette, his attitude relaxed.

"Before accusing me, Ms. Knight, maybe you should consider who you might have offended. Someone offered me better terms, and I can't afford to offend them, so I had to give them face."

He blew out a smoke ring and squinted, his tone suddenly serious, "I'm a businessman. Businessmen always seek profit and avoid harm. So, Ms. Knight, don't flatter me. I don't buy it."

"Who is this person?" Sophie asked urgently.

Simon picked up his coffee cup, looking indifferent, "It's not convenient to disclose. Ms. Knight, you're quite capable. Investigate it yourself."

Sophie had a suspicion but didn't dare to delve deeper.

In Aurora City's business circle, the only one capable of taking clients from the Russell Group and having the power to do so was likely the Turner Group.

She felt weak, as if all her strength had been drained.

Though not confirmed, she was about seventy percent sure.

Sophie suspected the sudden cancellation of the wine supplier's partnership was Alexander's doing.

This possibility made her feel trapped in a vicious cycle.

The more she cared about Alexander, the more she got hurt.

Sophie clutched her aching chest, biting her lip until she tasted blood, then slowly released.

Her eyes were filled with resentment. She took out her phone and contacted her assistant, quickly rearranging her schedule.

She was determined to confront Alexander today and hear his explanation.

Sophie hadn't considered that Alexander might not care to explain.

She believed he had his reasons or was forcing her to show weakness.

She didn't want to delve into why, choosing to skip that thought.

When the driver picked her up, he asked, "Where to?"

Sophie thought for a moment and gave an address.

It was ridiculous that, as Alexander's fiancée, she had to bribe someone to find out his whereabouts.

She didn't know if the information was accurate, but she didn't want to miss any chance.

As her car arrived at the gate, a black Range Rover slowly drove out of the side gate.

She immediately recognized the familiar license plate number, which Alexander had bought out long ago.

Sophie brightened up and rushed out of the car, blocking the road with her arms outstretched.

Alexander braked sharply, looking at Sophie standing in the middle of the road like a desperate figure. He rubbed his temples and calmly got out of the car.

"How did you know I was staying here?" Alexander always got straight to the point.

Sophie, anxious, quickly approached, reaching for his arm, but Alexander coldly brushed her off.

Feeling hurt, she nearly broke down, "Alexander, why are you doing this to me?"

Alexander looked puzzled, "What did I do to you?"

"First, you held the Russell Group's goods, then you made the wine supplier terminate our partnership. Who else could do this but you?"

The Russell Group had deep roots in Aurora City. Even the Collins Group or the Harvey Group couldn't achieve this so quickly.

The only reasonable explanation was the Turner Group.

Most people would choose the Turner Group over the Russell Group.

Alexander's lips curled into a faint smile, his tone cold, "It wasn't me."

Not him?

Then who?

Sophie felt confused, running through the prominent figures in Aurora City but couldn't figure out who was behind the Russell Group's troubles.

Only a few could influence the wine supplier, especially since it was the Smith family, the largest wine supplier in the country.

Top foreign wine estates only wanted to work with the Smith family.

Sophie had attended the Smith's wine tasting events and knew the old man didn't even give Alexander much face.

She always thought Alexander was involved but had no evidence.

Alexander was always straightforward. Since he denied it, maybe it was someone else.

Sophie stopped questioning.

After all, she hadn't seen Alexander for a long time, and her longing took over.

She reached out again, trying to touch Alexander, but he avoided her.

This action stung Sophie.

"Alexander, can't you stop treating me like this? You know how much I like you. Every time you look at me with that cold expression, it feels like my heart is being torn apart. I'm your fiancée. Why can't you look at me and be gentle?" Her eyes glistened with tears, looking pitiful.

Anyone else would have softened seeing such a delicate, tearful face.

But Alexander just glanced at her and then looked away, mocking, "Sophie, have you forgotten about the last time? You don't mention drugging me at all?"

Sophie's face turned pale. She didn't want to bring up that incident now.

She had acted impulsively, urged by Liam, and made a terrible mistake.

In the hours after Alexander left, she was tormented, her mind filled with conflicting thoughts, one justifying her actions, the other condemning her recklessness.
