Chapter 54 Can’t tell lies

Chapter 54 Can’t tell lies
“You are destroying the closet,” I yelled and he didn’t even turn to look at me, my eyes were on his for a moment, before he looked away. “What are you looking for?.” I asked.

“Your papa, he must have left a button that leads to somewhere safe, he knew that one day you would be in trouble, the house could get in trouble, and especially with what happened last time, you mentioned that the lights went off and he made sure everything was safe.”

“You need to quit talking in riddles, we don’t have much time, these people out there, I have no idea what they have planned but it can’t be good.” I breathed out.

My eyes were on his when he leaned toward me.

“The last time. Did you have to sleep somewhere else for a while even after the lights were fixed?” He asked and my breath hitches, I softly nodded at him.

“I went back to college, after a while of what happened, Papa wanted me to go back early and so I did, I didn’t stay on campus because it was not open yet, I rented an apartment,” I explained.
Papa never wanted me to leave the house but that time he wanted me to, it was like he was forcing me to leave the house, it was like he knew something was wrong.

“You think he kept something in the room,” I asked and my eyes were on his.

“I think there is a way out of your room, I think your papa will not just create your room without making sure you can run away when something gets bad, without making sure you can escape easily, right now, I have a feeling there are a few things that triggered the gunshot inside the house, that’s why it’s so quite.” He explained.

Papa never let the guards inside the house without a good reason, he didn’t like the idea of having them roaming all over the place and he didn’t think that it was even that safe, there was never a reason for anyone to shoot.

I needed to think, I needed to help Adrian, if there is a way, I should know about it, I have lived here for a long time, there should be something out of the ordinary, something I don’t ever go close to or touch unless I have to.

But what could it be?

Right now I am in my closet, everything I always touch, I always use it, it doesn’t matter what it was, the drawer and everything have been used, I started to
Look around the place even realizations dawn on me.

“The thermostat.” I breathed out.

“What?”

“I have never touched it while I am here mostly because it’s always set to a particular temperate, I love to walk into a cold closet when ever I have a steaming hot shower and when I am looking to find dresses to wear, I never change the temperate because I love the cold on my body and whenever I feel that it’s too cold especially during winter, I don’t even need to touch it, all I need is to mumble the temperate I want and it will do it for me,” I explained

“Is it not connected to the one in your bedroom?” He asked and I shook my head, the one in my bedroom is always different.

I headed toward it and I placed my hand on the little buttons, I turned off the cold and that’s when I heard a creaking noise, I watched as the pavement opened and I saw that it gave us a pathway.

“WOW.” I breathed out.

I should have known Papa would do something like this.
Which made me wonder, if someone else has walked into my closet, they would turn off the cold and find the secret doorway, except, except there is a way, there is a way Papa made sure I am the only one that will be able to do it

“Come on.” I smiled when I heard a loud noise coming from my body, my breath hitches as I headed toward the place, which was dark.

“Elara.” I heard Adrian say When the lights turned on and a smile appeared on my face, and the metallic box felt like a cage, but because of the lights, it made me feel a little bit better.

My mind was pulled back to reality when I heard a gunshot and instantly, the doors to the place closed.

“Fuck, they are going to get in.” I breathed out.

“They won’t, when you touched the thermostat, it didn’t just open up because you turned off the cold, your fingerprint also helped with it Elara, you didn’t think your papa would make it easy for just about anyone to find this doorway, it was meant for you.”

“He is not here and yet he is protecting me.” I smiled, I glanced at Adrian who led me, each step we took, the lights would come on, it was long and cold, and it felt like I could lose my mind if I stayed here longer than five minutes.

The more we walked, the more my feet ached.
“Are you sure this was not created for whoever attacked me, it’s taking a long time.” I breathed out, I could not even turn or be comfortable, it was too small, I didn’t like the idea of this

“Come on, it’s not going to take a while now.” He stated as we continued to walk.

Five more minutes passed before I saw a door at the end of the hallway, I rushed toward it and Adrian came up from behind.

Now it’s the moment of truth, I had hoped that it was not going to be something we would regret. We didn’t even know where it led.

Adrian stood in front in case something had happened, we wanted to make sure that we were safe before  he opened it up
