Chapter 25 The break in
“I am sorry.” I whispered the moment we got some time alone, papa wanted me to show Adrian to his room. "I really am."
“I didn’t ask you for any apology.” Adrian stated as he walked further into the room, my breath hitches as I stared at him and I looked away instantly.
“Look I feel horrible and I- I don’t need your apology Elara, you are merely saying it because you are staying with your father.” He said cutting me off.
He inched closer to me, even if I wanted to move away I didn’t because I wanted us to have a conversation, I needed us to have this conversation, he moved closer to me and I felt a wave of goosebumps was over me
“You never had it in mind to apologize to me this morning, before you saw me, you never cared to and this apology it’s from your heart.”
“It is.” I breathed out, and he smirked at me, as if he didn’t believe me.
“Yes it is and deep down you know it, it doesn’t matter what you think Elara, I don’t need your apology, cans you can certainly leave my room right now.” He said

I messed up,
“You know you said horrible things too and you never once tried to apologize to me, you didn’t even care.”
“I never said anything you have not once admitted to yourself Elara and I never said anything that is not true, you don’t care to find your mom anymore because you are scared, you know it and I do know it too, I would be damned if I apologize for saying the truth, you stare at me, you want to yell but deep down you know that you can’t yell, deep down you know that, you are scared she will be alive and what did you say to me.” He asked.
This time he is standing closer to me and I could feel his breath fanning against at me, he didn’t look happy, he didn’t sound happy.
“You judged me based me something you didn’t even know about, you called me out and called my family out, would you prefer if I told you your mom never loved you and wished that your father never got married to her because he ruined her life.” He said mad I shake my head
I would never speaks to him if he said something like that because he doesn’t know her just like I don’t know his family, I don’t know his past, I have no idea what’s going on with anything.
“I am sorry.”
“Say it when you mean it, for now leave my room.” He gritted through his teeth.

Dinner was even more horrible, I am sure papa noticed something was wrong, Adrain didn’t really speak much, he didn’t care to have little conversation all he did was eat and then leave
He followed papa out for a smoke.
“I am dying Elara, this is not going to change anything, it’s going to happen.” Papa said to me before he walked out.
I needed to find out what Adrian family is all about, I needed to know what’s going on, I had to.

I waited for ten minutes before I headed out into papa’s office, turning on the lamp light, I headed toward his safe, the password is mine and papa’s birthday.
I have never done something like this before.
My heart skipped a beat, as I stared across the place, I know the guards won’t be in the house by this hour but what if papa comes back early, I can’t let him find me here and Adrian will hate me even more
Why can’t I be happy that he hates me? Why does it make me so annoyed and mad at myself.
“You know what you did.” My subconscious whispered to me and I almost rolled my eyes at her.
My fingers found its way to the files that laid inside his place, the first thing I saw was a file about mama, I ignored it, I know all that it is to her
I didn’t want to read it anymore, I knew it was only going to room old wounds, I didn’t have it in me to handle any of that.
The second file that I found had Adrian’s name on it, the moment I pulled it out some fell to the ground and that’s when I heard a noise coming from downstairs.
It was voices

I pulled a few papers and I hid it inside my pocket before I picked up the file and I stashed it into the place, I was about closing the safe when I realized there are more files on the ground and fuck.
I rushed to toward it, I could hear footsteps heading toward the place, my breath hitches as I stared at the paper and I made sure to turn off the lights and I hid underneath the table.
“Take the rest of the night off, I will take care of other things.” Adrian said, I am guessing he is speaking to papa
I heard a door shut, and that’s when I heard the sound of the forge door opening, I could feel my heart beating at every moment.
The lights turned on and I knew it’s over for me.
He is going to know I am here
He will tell papa about it, it’s not going to make papa any happy, I have never snooped because we are meant to trust each other and now it felt like I made a huge mistake, I can’t have him mad at me.
I care for him so much.
“Elara.” I heard Adrian call my name and my breath hitches. I didn’t speak, I didn’t move, maybe if I don’t move, he will realise that I am not here,
I didn’t move or make any noise.
“I don’t have all day, come out.” He stated.
