Chapter - 76: Exposing Her Secrets To Alpha Zed
(Faedra's POV).
“What were you doing? Out there all alone?!” Zed asked, glaring at me, his gaze intent as I felt them melt into my skin. The first thing I felt was panic and worry. I knew he had his own ways of handling things, and things don't quite seem to be on their own, yet it made me worried sick, seeing how Zed of all people was mostly angry with me. I had not expected such a reaction from him!
I averted my gaze away from his; he had a frown etched on his face while I pulled slowly away from him.
“I'm sorry.” I apologized; he held his silence for a bit and then had a loud sigh drawn. I wasn't sure what it was that had been going on in his head, but certainly he didn't seem interested in calming down anytime soon.
We both stared at each other for a bit of a moment, no one uttering a single word, but it was my chance to make things right between us.
“I'm sorry, Zed. Will you take a walk with me?” I asked slowly, trying to keep my voice as low, calm, and innocent as I could. He said nothing briefly. He tucked his hand behind his back while we both walked slowly towards the door.
“Faedra, why were you out all alone? Honestly, what was going on in your head? You should have known better; I made it clear to you not to step a foot outside without anyone walking after you; besides, you could have gotten yourself injured; anything could have happened, and it would have been on me for as long as I remained alive.” Zed added In.
He wasn't pleased. With each step we took, I felt my heart race in my chest. There were lots of thoughts coupled into it. I was not sure what to think, say, or do, but none of it was within my grasp either.
I contemplated the choice I had to make; I didn't want to take it away from him anymore; it was about time he knew the truth to it all, yet I couldn't help but have myself drawn back into the land of nothingness. I swear it broke off my temples; it made me suck.
I shook slowly; I should never have spoken, though it acted in such a manner.
But I knew there were words that, if I eventually said something about my thoughts to him, it certainly might not end well either.
Keeping the truth to myself would betray the trust he had in me. I just couldn't handle it again. I had a straight face while he kept on getting worked up on me. It should not be done that way.
“I have something to tell you, Zed." I uttered all at once. He stopped at his feet and stared in my direction while I bit down on my lips. I felt my hands become shaky, and sweat broke off my head as well as my palms.
“I'm not related to Castor and Shade; we aren't siblings, Zed.” I explained, holding onto my breath. At that minute, I heard my heart beating hard through my ears.
The look on his face was confused; I had seen this coming.
“I'm sorry… I shouldn't have lied to You.” I apologized hastily, but he still had the same look on his face.
“I don't get you... You said it yourself. You told me by the beach everything—how you were related, how they were your cousins? Did Maximus do anything to you?” He asked, still confused.
"No, Zed, it had all been a lie. I wasn't sure who to trust at the moment. I swear by the moon goddess, I didn't mean to lie to you. I don't understand how genuine you were, and now I regret ever keeping the truth from you, Zed. It isn't what you think. But we aren't cousins, and I wasn't sure if Maximus had known about the truth as well. I had to take that walk all just so he would see me as bait.
I tried speaking to him, but he didn't seem to know a thing about it either. I found out the day I got my test results about this pregnancy from my doctor that I was pregnant for them. It isn't what you think; all I told you previously were lies. “ I stopped in my words; I felt sour, and never have I loathed myself as I had done at the moment.
Slowly, I saw it all.
The look on his face, the look of confusion that he had before, slowly and gradually morphed into hatred. A frown, the look of disgust—I couldn't name it. But I noticed the way he looked at me. He was not pleased, by a bit.
“I'm sorry, I should have done better... I only found out about it when I escaped from the pack. I heard the truth from Alpha Liddell; he had no idea I was eavesdropping; he was not my father to begin with; all he had done was keep up with lies. He had taken me, kidnapped me from the woods while I was very young, and the only reason he trained me was so he could sell me off and get an alliance he wanted; she had no female child. I wasn't sure I could trust you before Zed, but now I see the truth to it all.” I explained to Zed, who looked bitter, that he took several steps away from me, fuming with anger.
“Zed! Say something.” I persuaded him; he kept the bitter look etched on his face and drew in a long sigh.
“I need some time for myself, Faedra; I need to process all these lies.“ Zed responded; he said nothing else, picked up his pace, and walked off from the spot with a bitter mind.
I remained rooted to the spot while my face trailed after his steps, there was a lot coupled up into my mind. I knew I had hurt him. I had betrayed the last strand of trust that he had in me.
But most of all, I was worried: was he going to tell the truth to the twins as well? I don't want them to know about it, but it was my choice to explain it to Zed, and anything he did henceforth. was also on me.
