Chapter - 75: Letting Out Her Secret
(Faedra’s POV).
Listening to both men speak had me thrown into confusion. I had my doubts as well as my thoughts, and I could not trust them with the truth even if I wanted to. There certainly was something missing.
Besides, I knew for starters that Maximus might have been snooping around, but he certainly wasn't doing it just so I could get killed. Out of the blue, complicated things happened there. It had been hard to understand from the start, but things only got quite worse at the moment.
I knew I needed to meet with Maximus; I needed to speak with him, just him and me alone. By the time I got to the bottom of things, there had been a mix-up in the whole situation. I was certain about that, but then, the downside was that if Maximus had captured me, it would only mean he'd have me returned to Alpha Liddell; I couldn't think of what he was going to do to me.
I was torn between my emotions and thoughts. There were two choices I had: one of meeting with Maximus and having the whole tension and trouble cleared out; the other had everything to do with just me and him; or ending up back in the clasp of Alpha Lidell.
“Is anything wrong, Faedra?” Zed asked, pulling me out of the thoughts I had submerged my mind in.
I shook my head and stood on my feet.
“I'd head inside now; I'll be needing enough rest.” I explained. Both men nodded and stood, and we all walked into the vacation home and then into our respective rooms. Although I did catch a frown on Castor's face for a moment, I lay in bed for a moment, wrapping my head around the past activities and attempts on my life. It could not be Maximus; something else was missing, and I took it upon myself. I needed to leave. It was up to me to meet with Maximus all alone. I had a plan mapped out in my head; I was to leave at first light.
I needed to glance out the door and check the wristwatch I had on. Slowly, I switched on the tracker before whisking my way out the door, certain enough that the boys were still asleep. It was merely twenty-six past six in the morning, and they seemed to have slept late the previous night. I had heard them having other talks before I finally fell asleep.
I drew a long sigh and sucked in air before proceeding out the door; that was all that was needed of me, and in a matter of minutes, everything else would be sorted out.
I walked farther along the street, and as I heard footsteps draw close to me, I felt a hand pull at mine forcefully, just as I had anticipated. I froze on the spot, however. A little startled, my eyes bore into his; it had been Maximus. Castor had seen right.
I swallowed hard. He raised his hands in an attempt to make me unconscious, but I raised my hand to his face.
“It's okay; I'll come with you of my own accord. All the fighting would not be necessary.” I explained to him; he stopped for a while, and his eyes widened for a bit as he seemed to be surprised.
He gestured for his men to leave while I followed behind him slowly, not saying a word, until he finally got into the woods.
He stopped to a halt, glaring at me, still curious while I tucked my hands behind my back, not wanting him to know I had a tracker installed into the watch strapped to my wrist already.
“Go on. What is the thought to say?” He asked out of the blue and seemed to have understood what the problem with me was.
“I didn't say anything to...” I trailed off at the end of my word, hesitated a bit, and shook my head once again.
“Do you know who I truly am?” I asked Maximus, who looked a little surprised by my choice of words.
“What does that mean?” He asked me completely clueless, just like I had thought. I was right; he was also oblivious to the truth.
“I am not your half-sister, Maximus!” I spoke out louder, and much more confidence led into my words.
“What was that? I don't get it,” he asked again, completely stunned by hearing my words.
“I am not your sister, Maximus, and that is why I ran—not because I had gotten pregnant, but because I discovered the truth after a while: your father didn't birth me.” I added in again; his stare still remained on mine, and he clenched his fists while he gritted his teeth. I became a little worried, maybe scared.
“Explain!” he snapped, yelling at the top of my voice while the cold sweat broke off from my forehead. He had been lied to. I could see the pain, hurt, and anger in his words.
“I said talk!” he snapped again. This time I reckoned that it may not have been wisest of me to have relayed the information to him. I took slow and cautious steps away from him while I glanced around, wary of my environment.
“Just talk! All these would not help!” He snapped, and a hand pulled from behind him. A strong blow was dealt to Zed, and it made me instantly scared while I leaped slowly toward the back from fear.
“Stop Zed!” I yelled, but he didn't budge a bit; he had anger on his face, he didn't stop a bit, still throwing more blows at Maximus, who had been caught off guard and pinned onto the floor, trying hard to have his face shielded away from the blows which came his way.
“I said enough!” I snapped before throwing myself right in the middle of them both.
“I said it's enough! You don't have to fight, Zed; we have to leave!” I asked frustratedly, signing him to come toward me when he frowned and nodded before he made his way toward me.
