Chapter 49
Chapter 49
"Woah! What's that? Who wrote this?" Hazel asked as she dragged the piece of paper from my hand, her face etched with curiosity as she read every details in it.
"Who - wrote - this?" Hazel asked once again and this time, her eyes were on me, reading my facial expression.
"It's – it's the tribrid. She came to tell me some things last week concerning the rogues,"
"I'm so worried and confused at this point. I don't know if I can trust her." I murmured and sighed deeply before running my fingers through my hair.
Hazel's brows wrinkled as she gave me an intense gaze and made an effort to comprehend what I had said. "I don't get you, Camelia. You mean the tribrid helped you break the spell and in turn, she's spying on you and sending you weird letters?"
"It says here that you are mine. Who is trying to claim you? Is it the tribrid? I – I don't really understand," Kate inquired, her brows raising in confusion.
"It's not the tribrid who needs me. It's the rogue king. She said he needs me for a purpose. She also said something about my root. I wish to know more about it but I'm fearing that she might be lying to me."
Hazel stroked my cheek and shook her head as I muttered.
She said, "It's best if you ignore her. I'll advise you to inform your mates about this too."
"I agree with Hazel," Kate added with crossed arms, nodding in agreement to Hazel's statement.
I let out a deep sigh once again as I read the content in the paper. I became curious as my eyes began to read between the lines once again.
I need to find out more about the rogues. I want to know why the rogue king needs me.
"How was school today mate?" Xavier inquired the moment I got home. I tried to mask my growing concern as I turned to smile warmly at him after setting my bag down on the couch. I hadn't been comfortable since seeing that letter, but it wasn't apparent because of the smile on my face.
Xavier walked up towards me and cuddled me from behind, his hot breath fanning on my neck.
Turning to face him, I gripped his chin.
I felt his gaze ensnaring me and grasping me. I leaned in closer, putting my head on his chest, without saying anything.
"Can I stay like this? Just for a minute?" I questioned since I was still feeling uneasy. Being in his cuddle might probably reduce the tension in my mind.
"Sure, you can." He said as he played with my hair, blessing it with his kisses.
After a minute of clutching onto him, he held my shoulders and dragged me slightly away from him so he could have a look at me.
He raised my jaw, and gave me a curious gaze. He probably knew I was worried about something.
I didn't want my mate to see the letter. I don't want them to make war with the rogues. While we're still hoping for peace amongst Lycans, vampires, and werewolves, I don't want rogues to become involved in the current war as well.
Knowing more about my roots is all I want to know. And that's it.
"Are you sure you're alright, mate?" Xavier asked, giving me a suspicious look.
"I'm… I'm fine. I just felt like cuddling you. Where are the rest?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
"They're making dinner. You have to change your clothes, mate.. We can't wait to eat with you." Xavier muttered lastly before leaning in to give me a kiss on the cheek.
I smiled as I made my way to my room, feeling guilty for not revealing my worries to him.
I was running out of time after spending a considerable amount of time in my room.
With my eyes still glued on the letter, I debated whether or not to tell them about it.
I remembered once when I was small and my dad made a concerted effort to give me to some rogues. I was seven years old then and he saw me as a cursed child due to my mother's death. He wanted me gone with the rogues because he didn't want to have me as his daughter.
I wondered why he attempted to handle me to the rogues of all people.
I would have questioned him about it, but he was presently unable to talk due to a stroke. Carlos had assigned a few servants to look after him and I hope for his quick recovery.
I have no choice but to conduct my own research since I genuinely want to know my roots.
I just feel bad not wanting to involve my mates in this.
"Urmmm Camelia! Is something wrong? We've been waiting for you for ages now and your food is starting to turn cold. Are you alright?"
Desmond asked, jolting me out of my reverie.
I shuddered as I crumpled the letter and tossed it into my bag, not wanting him to see it.
I turned around to face him with a fake smile, pretending to act busy.
"I'm sorry for keeping you guys waiting. I was urm…going through some work at school today which I find really confusing. I guess I'll keep it for now," I muttered as I shoved strands of my hair behind my ear, squinting as I maintained a gaze at him.
He drew closer towards me, his face studying my expression, trying to point out one or two things.
I tried hard to hide my anxiety, staring back at him boldly with a sheepish smile.
"What work is that? Can I have a look at it?"
"You don't have to worry," I said loudly, preventing him from moving towards me.
I know how Desmond can be. He's the most intelligent among my mates and is quite good at fishing things out.
"Let's go eat," I held his hands and dragged him gently with me as we made our way downstairs.
As I watched all of my mates eat and laugh, I pretended to laugh along but deep down, my heart was racing in worry and guilt.
Was I doing the right thing by hiding the letter from them?
What if I show it to them and they stop me from going to school? If they find out, I won't have the chance to learn more about my roots.
I smiled along with them, trying hard to hide my worries.
The next day after school hours.
I saw the letter again in my locker and this time around I was determined to see the tribrid.
I kept the letter hidden from Hazel and Kate as I didn't want them to disrupt my plan.
I made my way to the woods after school, hoping to see the tribrid. This was where we were supposed to meet, according to the letter she wrote.
"Where are you? Show your face!" I yelled as I stood in the middle of the woods, my face darting around for any trace of her.
The tall trees stood at various angles like giants and the screeching sounds of the birds could be heard in the sky.
When I didn't see any trace of her, I got tired and turned around to leave.
When the leaves rustled, I turned around with wide eyes wondering what it was that was making that sound behind me.
"Come my child," The tribrid said with a warm croon smile that revealed her colored teeth.
My eyes widened as I studied her scary features. Would she harm me at this point? What does she want me to know? Am I really right with the decision I made?
"Don't be afraid of me, my child. I don't plan on hurting you. If I really wanted to hurt you, I wouldn't have broken that spell that tied your life to Cecile's," she muttered in a soft voice while I hesitated before placing my hands on her scaly palms.
"Wh–where are we going?"
I asked curiously as I stared at her the whole time.
"To see the rogue king. He has been waiting patiently for you,"
"I – I thought you said I needed to learn some things about my roots."
"You will, dear. No more questions. Please just follow me,"
She said lastl
y as she gave me a warm smile, my heart raced faster as I thought of the trouble I was putting myself into.
