Chapter 41
Chapter 41
"I'm certain that I never took it off Desmond," I said with conviction, nodding along.
Desmond placed his two hands on my shoulders, his brows furrowed in confusion and then, he said, "I believe you're telling the truth Camelia. But there is just one thing we need to know at this point. Did you speak to someone about the bracelet?"
I shook my head as I thought about everything I did today and those I chatted with.
"Yes. I remembered telling Kate some things about the bracelet but trust me, I didn't reveal too much."
Desmond's eyes narrowed as he gave me a long gaze which caused me to gulp down my saliva.
"Do you really trust Kate?"
He asked and I was shocked that he would ask me such a question.
Kate has been my friend since I worked as an omega and she has never taken anything from me without my consent.
I stood and remained speechless, unable to mouth a word as I remembered how she persisted me into telling her more about the bracelet.
"Is this bracelet in concern of importance?" Carlos inquired as he lifted his gaze at Desmond.
"Yes,"
"As a novice witch, it will help her in controlling and learning more about her powers. It can also help in protecting her from harm,"
Desmond explained to Carlos who only joked at his words.
"I don't think a bracelet is needed by a witch. What a witch needs most is a spell book." Carlos jested.
"Well a spell book is mainly for learning and casting spells while the bracelet can not only do just that but can also protect her,"
"If the bracelet gets into the wrong hand , it might be risky," Desmond divulged further, causing me to widen my eyes in shock.
"What would happen if it got into the wrong hands?" I asked,my face etched with concern.
"If it gets into the hand of the wrong person then the wearer might use it to gain dark powers. The bracelet has its pros and cons,"
"Why did you give our mate something as dangerous as that?" Carlos asked, getting angry as he clenched his teeth.
"You are misunderstanding his statement Carlos. He said the bracelet is used for protection but it might be unsafe once It gets to the hand of the wrong person," Xavier explained and clarified to Carlos.
"What's more important right now Is finding the bracelet, this is no time to argue,"
I rushed to my shelf and brought out my school bag. I unzipped it and began searching through my items, hoping I might see the bracelet in it.
When I couldn't find any trace of the bracelet, I became more worried.
Xavier and Desmond advanced in my direction and squatted beside me before giving me a light pat on the back.
"Don't worry. I believe we'll find it, you probably must have left it in your locker," Xavier said, trying to give me hope but I shook my head in disagreement at his statement.
"You guys don't get me. I never took the bracelet off for once and Kate, I know she'd never think of stealing it from me,"
"There's only one way for me to know," I said as I locked eyes with my three mates.
"I have to go to school tomorrow and ask everyone including Kate."
"No, camelia. We can't let you out of our sight as it's too risky for you to be alone." Carlos revealed as he walked towards me.
"Why? Is it because of what Cecile said about me?"
"Yes, camelia. Those words from Cecile and the ring getting missing is a sign that something bad is about to happen and that is why we need you to not leave our sight Camelia."
Carlos said as he held me by the shoulders. "I know you feel sad right now but trust me, I'm trying my best to protect you. I'll order some sentinels to search your school tomorrow. They won't return until they find that bracelet."
As advised by my mates, I skipped school the following day. I remained indoors with them, and they never left me out of sight for once.
I wasn't allowed to see Cecile or even step out of the pack house.
"Any news about the bracelet?" I asked as I paced around the room with my gaze fixed on Carlos.
Carlos wrapped his arms over me and made me sit on the bed. He ran his fingers into my hair and flashed me a warm smile that could melt my heart at any moment.
"You don't have to worry. Everything will be fine,"
Carlos said to reassure me while I clutched onto him tightly, wanting to get a little bit of comfort.
Just then, there was a knock at the door and three guards came in, their faces a mixture of fear, perplexity and worry.
"What is it?" Carlos asked, standing up immediately, his face etched with curiosity.
"It's — it's the witch, Cecile. She escaped."
"What!"
My three mates yelled at the same time and my heart sank in my stomach.
What if Cecile escaped so she could get back at Carlos
by harming me?
The more I thought of it, the more my heart raced in fear.
