Chapter 36
Chapter 36
I let out a deep sigh as I caught eyes with Desmond where he stood. We were both tensed and horrified of what might happen. Carlos tried his best to stop his father but it didn't work out.
"What are we gonna do now? She's losing it," I muttered to Xavier.
"I guess I'll give myself up for her to feed."
"H-how are we gonna do that?"
"I don't know. We need a little bit of a distraction to do this," Xavier muttered with a sigh, his face studying every angle and features in the courtyard.
Xavier firmly grasped Hazel, attempting to soothe her, but she was beginning to lose control.
I only wished I could help with something, probably helping to cause a distraction.
Just then, I focused my gaze on the bright lamp on the wall.
The longer I stared at it, the brighter it gleamed.
As I experimented a little bit with visualizing flames, the lamp's light intensified till flames appeared.
As I stared at it intently, the fire flared brightly, engulfing everyone in the courtyard in fear and confusion.
Everyone got distracted including Alpha Varlos and the sentinels who found the fire outbreak to be quite strange.
As they hurried to put off the fire, it blazed the more.
Seeing how distracted the people were, Desmond swiftly materialized in front of Hazel and gave her a pint of human blood in a sac bag.
With a smile on her face, Hazel grabbed it from him and fed on it, gulping down the whole content till she was satisfied.
She licked her lips and stared at me but my gaze was still fixed on the fire. I was shocked to see my imagination coming to reality.
"Camelia!"
"Camelia!" She called as she shook me roughly.
I turned to face her with wide eyes. I didn't understand what was wrong with me.
Hazel gave me a warm hug and I hugged her back, feeling relived that everything went well.
After so much struggle, the sentinels were finally able to put off the fire.
"Since we have no vampires amongst us, I hereby dismiss this gathering." Alpha Varlos announced and everyone mumbled happily before going to their respective homes.
I saw Alpha Varlos mumbling and muttering to Carlos and Desmond. He exchanged a few words with them before leaving with his sentinels.
"That was close," Carlos muttered with relief as he glanced at Hazel.
"I can't even imagine what would have happened if you were caught. We need to work on control. I'll teach you everything you need to know about it," Desmond said to Hazel assuringly with a warm smile.
"All thanks to that fire. It created a distraction and I'm glad Desmond was able to give you the blood on time to feed on," Xavier said and they all nodded in agreement except me.
I didn't feel quite right. I felt my powers surge within me when that lamp blazed with fire.
Are these a part of my powers?
"You look lost, mate. Are you alright?" Carlos asked me as he held my cheek and caressed them softly, his bluish charming eyes piercing directly into mine.
"I'm – I'm fine," I lied as I held my forehead which was starting to ache.
"I guess I need to rest,"
He nodded in understanding before giving me a short kiss on the forehead.
"Let's take you to your room, you look pretty exhausted too." He suggested and without wasting much time, he grabbed me and gave me a piggyback while I gasped in surprise.
"Common! I can't bear to see you walk in this state." He teased and I placed my head gently on his back, smiling from ear to ear.
Hazel chuckled lightly as she watched us depart in the thin air.
Desmond and Xavier bid her before trailing behind us.
The sun gently kissed the horizon, painting the sky with hues of white and blue. The weather was gloriously sunny and lovely at eleven in the morning.
As I stood up from the bed, I grimaced as I felt a sharp pain in my tummy.
I sighed as I gently placed my feet in my slippers, hoping to get downstairs so as to make some tea.
Though I slept early last night and took enough rest, I wondered why I'm still not feeling any better.
I closed my door gently and walked down the stairs before approaching the kitchen.
I could hear light giggles from my mates as they interacted playfully with each other.
A smile formed across my face; It was such a great view seeing them play together.
I stood on my toes and stretched, wondering what they were cooking.
The palatable odor of the food danced across my nose and I couldn't help but drool.
When I looked down at their costumes, I let out a loud giggle.
They all turned back to stare at me, their eyes widened as they were shocked to see me.
They probably didn't have an idea that I was there all these while.
I kept laughing as I pointed at them; They looked so funny in those tiny aprons and mittens.
Xavier's appearance made me chuckle the more, he looked like a giant in the tiny apron which could barely cover his chest.
"We had no idea you were there, mate," Carlos said, his eyes fixed on my white night gown which revealed my arms.
"I– have… have been… here for two min…" I couldn't help but chuckle amidst my words.
They laughed too– I guess my laughter was quite contagious.
When we saw how funny Carlos danced in his apron, we couldn't help but roll over as we laughed.
"Hey! Don't let the meat get burnt! Do you want our mate to eat burnt foods?" Xavier bawled and teased while Carlos stopped his dance to hurriedly attend to the food he was cooking.
My smile slowly turned into a grimace when I felt that sharp pain once again in my tummy.
"Are you alright, mate?" Xavier asked as he approached me, his face etched with concern.
I squinted my eyes as I looked up at him. "I think I need to make some herbal tea."
Desmond, who heard my response, smiled as he turned to face me. "You don't have to worry. I have made your tea. I wanted to serve it to you in bed but I decided to wait till we are done with the cooking. Forgive me mate for not bringing it earlier."
I smiled at his warm words and bright smile, they sure have a way of soothing my pain.
He advanced towards me with the tea cup and I grinned before drinking and gulping its content.
"Ouch!" Carlos screamed and grimaced as the hot oil splashed on him. He was deep frying some meat in the pan and he looked so funny as he held the spatula fearfully.
I smiled and said, "Why don't you leave it for a lady to handle?"
He scratched his nape as he stared at me, not a single word forming from his mouth.
I reached for the spatula and he stepped back, watching as I handled the cooking.
"Urhh.. mate," Xavier called sweetly, wanting to get my attention.
"What?"
"Urhh… urmm..I think you're.."
"I'm what?" I asked him as I busied myself with frying the content in the pan.
"You think I'm what?"
"I think you're on your period because you're urm.. stained," He finally uttered while I turned back to face him with wide eyes.
How on earth do I not know?
I left the cooking and turned around to take a glimpse at my nightgown.
I sighed in disbelief as I saw the la
rge smudge of blood on it.
My cheeks flushed in embarrassment and when I raised my head, I saw the three piercing handsome eyes of my mate.
