Chapter 51

Chapter 51

Isabella didn't know how to respond for a moment.

Was this even the same thing?

Besides, hadn't she also accepted the pastries William gave her? Why was William so angry?

Still, Isabella didn't want to offend William, so she quickly put the box away.

"Mr. Brown, I was being too ungrateful just now. You're giving me something so valuable, how could I possibly not want to accept it!"

William was quite satisfied with her attitude. He then picked up some documents from the desk and headed to the conference room.

Isabella walked over to her workstation and sat down. Opening the box again, she stared blankly at the jade bracelet inside, suddenly remembering what Saskia had said last night.

True, William had absolutely no need to give her a bracelet, yet he still did.

Could it be that William really liked her?

Isabella's feelings suddenly became complicated.

Maybe... it really was just something William didn't like, so he gave it to her.

After all, Chase had told her before that although William was demanding at work, he treated people well.

With this thought, Isabella shook her head hard to stop herself from overthinking and focused on her work.

At noon, Saskia suddenly came to the Brown Group.

She looked dejected, clearly having encountered some problem.

Isabella pulled her to sit down in the employee cafeteria and specially got her a meal, pushing it in front of her.

"Is it not going well with your situation?"

Saskia hung her head and let out a heavy sigh.

"I went to his company for an interview, and he happened to be the interviewer. He recognized me and kicked me out before I could even introduce myself."

Saskia only learned after returning to the country that Stanley was the son of the Martinez family and had opened an aviation company domestically.

To get close to Stanley, she naturally thought of applying for a job there.

She just didn't expect to fail right from the start.

Isabella couldn't help but smile.

Saskia was the daughter of the Fuller family, after all, raised and cherished by the Fuller family. Now she was being kicked out at the interview stage - it really seemed out of place.

Isabella patted her hand and handed her a fork.

"Worst case, use other ways to get into his company. With so many interviews, he can't possibly be present every single time, right?"

Hearing this, Saskia barely pulled herself together. After eating a few bites, she suddenly thought of something and spoke again.

"When I was kicked out today, I saw him with a woman. Could she be his fiancée?"

As she spoke, Saskia pulled out a photo.

When she saw Amelia in the photo, Isabella smiled.

"This is Amelia, she's his sister."

Surprise flashed in Saskia's eyes.

"How do you know her?"

"Because she was originally Mr. Brown's fiancée. She gave me a hard time a while ago, so of course I remember her. Plus, I heard Mr. Brown say today that Mr. Brown and Stanley are good friends, so naturally I could figure out that Amelia is Stanley's sister."

Saskia nodded thoughtfully, then suddenly thought of something and frowned.

"I attended a Martinez family banquet before. Back then, I heard the older generation say that Amelia went missing for a while and was only found several years later. The Martinez family felt guilty and tried their best to make it up to her, which also resulted in Amelia's spoiled personality. Her personality is quite famous in high society circles, but today was the first time I actually saw her."

Isabella wasn't interested in these secrets of wealthy families, but this was actually a good opportunity for Saskia.

"Why don't you become good friends with Amelia? That way, you could get closer to Stanley."

But Saskia firmly shook her head.

"She gave you a hard time before. How could I possibly become friends with her? Even without her, I have other ways to get close to Stanley."

Isabella felt touched.

Over these years, Saskia could practically be called her only friend. She had thought that someone like Saskia, a socialite, wouldn't take an ordinary person like her seriously.

But unexpectedly, Saskia would so firmly choose her side.

After lunch, Isabella saw Saskia out of the Brown Group and returned to the office to work.

In the afternoon, William wasn't at the Brown Group. He took Chase out to discuss business, so she was quite happy to have some free time and simply stayed in the break room playing on her phone.

However, because she had been so tired these past few days, before she knew it, she had fallen asleep.

When she woke up again, it was pitch dark around her. Isabella turned on her phone's flashlight and walked out of the break room, only to discover that her colleagues had all left work and the lights in the entire building had been completely turned off.

Isabella was afraid the doors downstairs at the Brown Group would also be locked, so she quickly gathered her things as fast as she could and ran out of the office.

Fortunately, the doors weren't locked.

Isabella left the Brown Group and waited by the roadside for a car, but after waiting for a while, no vehicles came by.

Just as she was getting anxious, she suddenly caught sight of a tall, upright figure standing under a streetlight not far away.

Was that William?

Isabella was surprised.

Why would William be here so late?

And from the looks of it, he seemed to have been waiting for a long time. Could he be waiting for her?

Isabella suppressed her thoughts and quickly walked toward William.

"Mr. Brown, what a coincidence, are you also getting off work at this time?"

William looked her up and down, his brow furrowed.

"It's so late, why are you still here?"

If he hadn't known in advance that Isabella hadn't left yet, why would he have specially waited here?

Isabella naturally didn't dare say she had accidentally overslept, only saying it was because work had delayed her.

William looked her up and down.

"Whether or not you have work, you think I wouldn't know?"

Isabella guiltily turned her head away.

"Well, Mr. Brown, I still need to get a taxi home, so I'll be going now."

The moment she turned around, Isabella was suddenly grabbed by the arm by William. William's cool fingertips touched her skin, and Isabella instinctively tensed her neck and pulled her hand back.

"Mr. Brown, is there anything else you need to tell me?"

William seemed to let out a sigh.

"It's so late, you won't be able to get a taxi. Let me drive you home."

Isabella's heart tightened, and Saskia's words floated back into her mind.

William was the CEO of the Brown Group, a person of high status. Why would he specifically offer to drive a small employee like her home?

In this moment, Isabella's heart beat wildly.

She opened her mouth, wanting to refuse, but unconsciously blurted out.

"Okay, then, thank you, Mr. Brown!"

William gestured for her to get in the car. After Isabella got in, she immediately felt the air around her become thin, and could even faintly smell the sandalwood scent coming from William.

That night, it was in this very scent that William had tormented her until dawn.

The car was completely silent.

On the way back, Isabella's eyes kept glancing at William from the corner of her vision.

Although she clearly knew that her status and William's were worlds apart, somehow she still couldn't control herself from wanting to pay attention to him.

However, the next second, William caught Isabella's sneaking glances.

"Haven't seen enough yet?"
