Chapter 84 Six Months Later

I just fell asleep when a banging on the door wakes me. Jumping up and racing to the door I open it.

"I just got the twins down." I mutter rubbing my eyes.

"It's Cassie." Greyson says.

Gripping the door frame, I struggle for breath.

"Tell me." I order.

"She's awake."

I stand there for a few minutes. Trying to decipher what he's saying.

"You need to go. I'll watch them." He says handing my keys to me. Gunning it to the hospital I park and get out. My nerves all over the place.

It's nearly midnight and I haven't slept in twelve hours. Teething times two is no joke. Taking the elevator to the ICU I stop outside the room. Preparing myself.

Opening the door and stepping in my breath catches in my throat. She's always been beautiful, but I haven't seen her in months.

"Cassandra." I murmur. Her gaze snaps to me and she looks confused.

Walking over to the bed I sit beside her. Taking her hand in mine I wait. Knowing the information, she received was a lot.

I hear her sob and I sigh wrapping my arms around her tightly. God, I missed her.

"It's okay. It's going to be okay now." I murmur into her hair.

Nodding she clings to me like her life depends on it.

"I am so fucking mad at you." I admit. "I have missed you." I hear her laugh softly and I smile.

"I didn't die." She whispers.

"No, you didn't die." I say cupping her face in my hands.

"You were gone. I was so scared." She admits biting her lip. A wave of guilt hits me.

"I am so sorry for leaving."

"You should stop doing that." She says surprising me.

"I'm not going anywhere ever again." I promise resting my forehead on hers.

"How are they?" She asks softly.

"Teething. I can't wait for you to see them. William, he looks just like you and Emma looks like me. They are terrors but I love them so much and Ang is great with them." She smiles as I speak and my heart swells.

"I want to go home."

"Soon, baby." I murmur kissing her cheek. Nodding she rests her head on my chest.

I tell her about the first six months of our babies' lives. I see sadness behind her eyes at what she's missed so I hold her tighter making her sigh in content.

We lay there in silence. Soaking in as much of each other as we can right now. Blowing out a breath I run my thumb over her knuckles. I hear her breathing hitch and chuckle.

This girl can bring any man to their knees so it's funny to see how I affect her even still.

"I don't want you to go." She says finally.

"I just got her." I smile softly. She rolls her eyes shaking her head.

"You have a life. Not here." She says.

"Cassandra, when I left it was because I didn't think there was anything keeping me here. There is though."

"The twins." She nods thoughtfully.

"And you." I say surprising her. "I tried moving on. The truth is I was lying to myself. You are it for me. I want us to be a family Cassandra and I'll wait forever if I have too." I whisper kissing her temple.

"We are a family." She says finally interlacing her fingers with mine.

"I fucking love you." I say nudging her.

"I love you Carter." She grins up at me. Pressing my lips to hers. She responds immediately. Grazing her lip with my tongue she grants me access.

I swallow her moans, pulling away when we both need air.

"Cassandra." I whisper into the dark.

"Hm?"

"Marry me."

"Yes." She whispers making me smile. Reaching into my pocket I slide the ring onto her finger making her gasp.

"I'm optimistic." I laugh.

"Kiss me again." She pleads. And I do just that.
